I often feel guilty for all the games that I didn't get around to finish. But there are just some games that aren't good enough to keep my interest the entire way through, so I get bored and cannot garner enough motivation to finish them.

Do you always play your games to the bitter end, even when it sucks?

Well I'm more of a console gamer than a PC gamer so the installation
issue isn't of much concern, but generally I do try and beat most of
the games I buy. Often this will take me a long time as I buy new games
that take my interest from another I've yet to complete, but I do
normally get around to going back and finishing them off sooner or
later.

How about adding option #5 for people like me.

5) I have finished every game I had time to.

Up until HL1, I finished every game I ever installed.. I never finished one since, including HL1.

Thought JK3 was even better still.

Usually, if the game is good enough it'll stay installed long after I beat it (CoD, MoHAA, HL)

I only really finish the games I have a real reason to. I
finished HL1 and HL2 without cheats because Im'm kind of obligated
to. I often don't finish the campaigns for RTS games, and on most
FPS' I'll get near the end then turn on cheats until I win.

I don't think I've ever used cheats to complete a game before. Don't
get me wrong - I've used a whole load of cheats in my time - but I
always use them to muck about after completing the game. Cheats are
something that have completely fallen by the way side for me - in the
past I recall reading through cheat books that came with magazines to
see if any of my games had cool things you could do, but recently the
only cheats I know or have used are ones that are useful for level
design such as noclip, invincibility, or all weapons in source. About
the only non-development related cheat I know is the cheat for worms on
the playstation, that lets you turn on banana bombs, sheep and what
have you as default weapons

Only game I've purchased but never beaten are Homeworld and Homeworld
Cataclysm. Last missions on both were crazy difficult. But otherwise,
yeah, I tend to struggle through every game, just to get my money's

I rented True Crime and it was okay for the first parts... so I kept
playing. The second I started fighting a flying dragon and
mystical chinese demon women, I said f**k this. I thought I was
playing a GTA clone but instead they threw reality right out the window.

Once I start having to pay for the games I may start to beat
them. But I find that most games just start to wear off near the
end. Except Republic Commando, that one was too short. But
anyhoo, I find that once the novelrty wears off, unless it's really
good, it just sort of dies. However, a game like The Elder
Scrolls 3: Morrowind, I've played for years and never really "beat"
it. I like games like that because of their endless playability
gbecause they are so non-linear, and don't really have much of a set
goal at all. You can go and do whatever.

Yeah. mhmm. Last game I didn't beat was Full Spectrum
Warrior. Last game I beat was BattleFront, Tony Hawk's
Underground and Republic Commando. I beat them all aroudn the
same time.

LOL.. I have the first game mentioned here..

But a better poll would be, "How long is the longest time it took you to beat a game"

Took me over 1 year to beat "Starcon 2" The game actually stayed saved on my system that long before I finished it.. I had missed one lousy clue way back in the middle where the Mycon deep children were.. After I visited their homeworld, I never went back cause they were so anti-social I thought their silence was all they could give..

I however, did return and finished the game.. No cheats and in a single play... of over 1 year.

Half-Life 1 - didn't finish (Zen sucked ass)

Insaniquarium - finished (rox0red)

Alice - finished (bought a new video card just to play it)

DOOM 3 - didn't finish (whole game sucked ass)

DOOM Collector's Edition - finished all 3 (with jDOOM for mouselook & opengl)

Painkiller - finished (more like Doom than D3. plan to replay soon.)

Serious Sam I&II - finished (more like Doom than D3. also $15)

NOLF I&II - finished & replayed both multiple times

Sacred - finished & replayed. (story sucked, but gameplay was addictive)

Master of Orion II - finished & continue to replay. Have played 100's of times. Almost 10 years old.

Hard to judge some games; for example, I primarily bought UT2k4 for multiplayer, and had no intention of 'finishing' the 1player ladder.

UT2k3 - played some. pretty graphics.

UT2k4 - played a LOT. pretty graphics. Onslaught most addictive game since TFC for me, good mix of action and strategy.

Okay this is boring, I'm not going to finish it

I finished about a 25 - 30 games, mainly shooters and strategies, as
well as some adventure games. In most cases I'll try to finish a game,
unless it's so worse that even the first 2 or 3 levels are already
barely playable.

Sometimes I get bored with a game halfway though, and I never bother playing it again.

However, when a map editor is provided with a game, it'll keep me busy for a much longer time...

Which reminds me...anyone ever buy a PC game but not even get around to installing it never mind playing or finishing it? I bought American McGee's Alice about 4 years ago but it just got forgotten at the bottom of a big pile of games. Pretty dumb to buy a game and not even play it once.

Id probably say ive completed most of my games, SoF 2 etc etc, but i
tend to play endless games now, something that has constant attention
into graphics and gameplay.

I mainly completed things like SoF becuse it allways
had my attention to playing it (heads coming off and all, truely is a
funny game to play). HL i never completed because Xen was such a boring
ass part, i think i ended up using console changemap, to the boss and
just killed him in the end because xen was complete cre-hap.

Most RPG's seem to keep my attention though, things
like Battle for middle earth and Lords of Everquest are good. Things
likes Diablo 2 do boor me quickly, the constant click and hold,
involves no skill and is repetive.

my fav RPG (offline) is a mix between IWD, and
Morrowind. IWD was just a fantastic game lasted a long time but if it
wernt for the fact i played it over lan with KoRn i think that would of
got boring, Morrowind is more of a power abusing game. Takes a little
wile to get any good, but once your around max skill it is kinda silly.
Although using the editor was fun making your own houses to store uber
expensive stuff in.

I now tend to spend my time on EQ2, a nearly endless
and constant fun game to play, something that you very rarely get bored
of. I admit ive had a couple of times were i got bored, but it doesnt
take long to ge back on to it, shame that people think that a tenna a
month is alot of money, i seem to be able to afford it and i dont evan
work (and i dont get pocket money in that matter). its werth using
money from christmas and Birthday on. its not a game where you can
power abuse and kill anyone in site (its completeley non PvP). idea
being that you CANNOT kill the hardest enamy solo, you HAVE to group to
kill it.

Thats what makes it more fun, you actualy have to
work together with people to get anywhere, soloing maybe good exp, but
there is no way you can go and kill the uberest creature there. Capping
the lvl to 50 is a good idea, stops people from constantly lvling,
makes it fun, gives you more to do, and no there isnt just normal
lvling, you get tradeskills (you can make usefull items and stuff x.X).

All realy depends on what kind of game you like, i
prefer to play a game with nice graphics, good game play something I
enjoy and stay active in. Half - Life 2 has lost me in intrest,
completed it played Death match for a wile, but it seems the same thing
over and over again, i probably wont bother playing it untill a few
mods are released, untill then, it stayes where it is.

Thing i noticed with morrowind is that i didnt actualy notice that i
had a storyline till i was "overpowerd" you could say, ill allready
maxxed everyskill and the fact you can kill Literaly EVERYTHING was
good in a sence. quest wise morrowind was kind of poor, let me down in
the sence. the storyline was a very boring and it was a parts
complecated. I evan cheated on that at some points, i oculd evan
complete it with cheats, there is somewhere / somewhat that i missed
its a game where you at some points HAVE to read what is said.

I did however like the quests for the "oo what is it
now havnt played it in a year or so" the things like the imperials
thingies. cant totaly remember what they were called, but there was
loads of them (there was a thief one i believe asswell) and a few
others. niceley coded game though.

Morrowind is defenatly the most "free" RPG ive played, you can literaly
do anything you like and sometimes not have to worry, thing is
most of the time you kill someone you need for a quest later on in the
game.

Yeah that's why I liked it. It was very free, and if you go
around kiling people for fun, you screw yourself up for later on.

One thing I can't figure out myself is that when I first started playing NOLF2, I was enthralled by the graphics and the gameplay (particularly the dialogues). But somehow I just lost interest. I am currently wandering around in Siberia, at this Russian record building, shooting a seemingly endless group of Russian guards.

It gets old after a while. I just can't get myself to continue the game at this point.

I am going back to MOHAA to finish it. It's a good game, I don't know why I haven't finished it sooner.

Other games I finished: Doom, Doom II, Deus Ex, Unreal II, Far Cry, and Half-Life 2. I never played the original Half-Life, but I think I'll get around to it when I don't work these crazy long hours.

I know, but "I had time to" is a vague phrase. Everyone has enough time. It's just hard to make time. Without sleeping or eating, there will be enough time to finish a game.

It's all a matter of priority.

NOLF2 was brilliant. You owe it to yourself to finish it. The Russian
archives level is really the only one that's difficult to find your way
around. Last level is pretty easy too. But still, it's great! Finish it!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll definitely get around to finish that...after I finish Medal of Honor first (I bought the Deluxe Edition, with Spearhead bundled in with it).

With a busy work schedule and the upcoming wedding, time is a precious commodity right now. I didn't get to go to the gym until 9:30 pm last night, but I still managed to make it and had a good workout.

I think my fiance was a bit miffed at me for playing half-an-hour of MOHAA after she's gone to bed.

The secret to success is to buy your spouse/future spouse a complete system and she will stop the competitive nature she harbors.

My wife used to say snide remarks under her breath about this or that pertaining to my computer time. She now has her own system/scanner/printer,camera and 17 inch monitor all hooked up to a p3 500

She no longer mumbles.

hehe somehow games with fancy moves dont bore me i guess  i finished both max payne games too. in ETM there was the added motivation of reaching the end for being able to use the samourai sword (which wasnt all that cool, but meh).

The thing with HL1 is that i found its multiplayer aspects (i.e. mods like tfc, flf, dc) far more interesting then its SP.

for HL2 and D3 it was a timing aspect, while i had no other games when i played ETM, i had Rome Total War when i had D3 and HL2, and somehow Rome got me too addicted. when i finish that i definately plan on contiuing HL2 and D3 , but that will be something for after the exams, holiday and compo

You didn't complete HL1, HL2, or Doom 3, yet you did complete
Enter The Matrix...there is something wrong with that picture
I didn't even complete that, some games just don't keep my interest (and yea, I still haven't completed HL 1 or 2.)

I can understand how people get bored of HL1 and give up *points at
Xen*, but HL2 you must be joking, i cant see how you can get bored of
that (unless youve allready completed it a few times over). just take
something with you that you can fling about, that allways keeps your
intrest =P

You realy should, it gets better and better and better, something you realy HAVE to complete.

Even after completing HL2 several times, I am still interested in playing it. But instead of starting from the beginning, I just around.

Ravenholm is one of my favorite spot, so I re-visit that over and over again, using different ways to slaughter those zombies.

Even after so many times, I still find new ways to kill things. HL2 is that good.
