Am I seeing this correctly? It displays the hotkeys of any given program you are using ATM?
That would be unique to say the least..

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, by looking at the photoshop
setup. You have your texture application button, entity button,
geez all kinds of crap. If this goes on the market I will have to
guilt my dad into getting me one.

I might be wrong but I think this keyboard won't actually 'scan' applications for hotkeys but the user needs to set up all the hotkeys for the application. And for this the user needs to know the hotkeys. It certainly will come with pre-defined hotkeys for major programmes - but for hammer? I shrug my shoulders on that.
Never try to be perfect - just try it and make the best out of it

I can see some great implementations with steam coming up if it
operates in the fashion im thinking of, if it changes for each active
application, that would be awesome, just thing, you can start steam,
load half life and connect to the server of your choice by hitting 3-4
buttons  then theres in-game! you could have stuff for custom plugins
and things, like slap and such
and hammer! god that would be awesome, Gimmie an light_spot please! Ping! There we go! lets put that over there!
and the photoshop layout looks good,
ooh, bets on someone modding the software so it uses it as a display >.>
that and the possibilities with winamp, that would be awesome  pass the VIS to the keyboard to look cool
I need a new sig

Thats really cool, but if it really is 200 dollars, thats a bit excessive as a replacement for a 5 dollar piece of equipment.

200$ ? You'd have to be a fool to give 200$ just to save 2 mouse clicks IMHO. A fool or beyond lazy.

For me at least, the tactile feeling of the keys is the most important aspect for a keyboard. I am very picky about the feel of the keys. Once, I bought seven keyboards at the same time so I can test them out properly (before returning six of them later).
I memorized the keys already, so I really have no need for the keyboard to remind me of which key does what. Besides, I am a touch-typist, so I never look at the keyboard anyway.
It's a smart concept though. But the ultimate keyboard would be a thin touch-sensitive pad that you can fold up to the size of a pea and carry it wherever you go.

They have one like that. It's just the rubber pad found inside
the keyboard, with the letters/numbers/etc. on it, and you can roll it
up and take it anywhere.

The only problem I see with that keyboard is that they didn't a bump on the F and J keys.
I need my bumps so that I don't have to ever look down. I always get confused on macs because their bump is on the D and K. But that thing has no bumps at all.

All the ones I am considering are Logitech keyboards, but the prices range from $24 to $153! I see no reason for buying the more expensive models, but I must be missing something.
Why would anyone pay for the expensive stuff (besides a few extra keys and plugs for headphones)?

No.
I saw this awhile ago and it's one of the most retarded ideas EVER. The only thing that makes the situation worse is that everyone seems to want one ... a $100 keyboard ...
It's this type of thing that really pisses me off about people in general. It's the same with people who "pimp" out their cars by removing the door handles and adding electronic door openers. Way to go jack ass. Sure, it looks cool and the idea sounds cool, but it's a very nonfunctional product.
I bet you'd all like to have a sheet of glass for a monitor too.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I don't think this is a stupid idea, I think it's a brilliant
idea. A stupid keyboard are the new ones with fingerprint
scanners.

Dunno if anyone has said any of this yet-
Do you guys realise its just an idea? It'll be 10 years or so till its on the shelves and even then we will be using something else, like those sony pads. Plus its a MAC product = Evil. Also you'd have to tell the program the hotkeys, the likelyness of it knowing them is slim.

Quick question: When was the last time someone looked at their keyboard? Anybody? You can already buy program specific keyboard covers and or keyboards. My old school had an Avid keyboard with all the hotkeys printed on it and colorcoded etc. I can't wait until they're a reasonable price, but seriously... when was the last time you looked at your keyboard?

@Crono, I dont think its really a problem if people want flashy stuff.
I have a problem when the popular "need" for "pimpin' s**t" turns
everything into flashy/crappy stuff. Like cell phones, sure all
those neat features are nice, but when I ask for a phone with a
dot-matrix screen, contact list, and one game (snake) I cant get that,
I have to get a web/camera phone with 3,000 ring tones...

Anyone know how much over 120 keys with screens on them is gunna cost? I think for the sake of using your memory, a normal keyboard is fine. And tbh I never look at my keyboard anyway.

I think the looking at your keyboard isn't much of an argument.
The only reason you don't look at your keyboard is because you have no
reason too, you've memorized every key. But if you can make a
custom keyboard for any application, you're going to be looking at and
using your keyboard differently.
Not sure if I got my point across...

I dont know, in photoshop for instance if I dont know a short cut key,
I would rather keep my eyes on the screen then look down and find a
button on my key pad.
then once you memorize your key short cuts you never look at them again.
It would be usefull for codeing but again, once you know what each key does there is not point to look down at it.
