Your new system is pretty much like mine, except with a more advanced graphics card. I have a Radeon 9800Pro, which I don't really have any complaint.
I put together my first machine too, and the only tricky part was applying the thermal paste. You just need a thin layer, so don't use it like a toothpaste. The heatsink was a bit tricky too, but nothing too daunting. You do have to use a fair amount of force to get the heat sink on, and using force on your CPU can always be scary.
Generally, if you follow the instruction that comes with the motherboard and the CPU, everything should be pretty straight forward. You can ground yourself by touching the PSU, with the power cord plugged in.
