Not wanting to hijack Satchmo's thread, I've decided to create a thread
to share some of my recent adventures during which I had my camera
handy.

These photos are almost 1600x1200 (and are only half the size of the
originals) and most are more than 500kb. So ... they are
thumbnailed but they are definitely not 56k friendly. I could
have made them much smaller, but a lot of the views would have been
less stunning.

Anyone else who wants to share some recent photos are welcome to post them here.

These three shots are taken from the summit of a small hill known as
Snake Mountain near the border between Vermont and New York
state. It's a pleasant 45 minute hike up to the summit, and my
friends and I did it recently in time to lay out a picnic and catch the
sunset.

This is a shot of my college's chapel. This was taken during the
first years' convocation ceremony, and I thought it looked nice.
I like the inscription.

Of the pictures that loaded successfully, they look gorgeous. Many of the images did not load for me.

That's the benefit of living on the East Coast. It's green and there are actually seasonal changes.

Actually, Satch, it's just California. Oregon and Washington get plenty of different seasonal effects  With plenty of greenary.

Yeah I dont know why the Bermuda and Mt. Abe photos are busted. Hopefully they'll sort themselves out.

I really like the picture of your road Nickelplate, but I wish it was a
little more focused. Right now for its resolution it seems too
blurry for my eyes to focus painlessly.

Okay rehosted the photos that were broken:

There's a great story behind this particular photo. Monday night
two of my friends and I decided to hike up Mount Abe right after
dinner, and camp out near the summit, then rise in time to catch the
sunrise and hike down and be back before class Tuesday morning.
We drove about an hour and a half and hiked about 8 miles total.
I made it back in time for my 9:30 class... it was awesome.
Unfortunately it was too misty to see the sunrise, but here's what it
looked like anyway:

Well, it was a new technique i was trying at the time: you blur the photo after using a Sepia filter (i made my own) and then you reapply an un-blurred copy of the picture over top of it. it makes it darker with more contrast and a weird focus to it.

[EDIT]

I re-did it just for you, Morphine. I blurred it less in the initial steps.

Looks better, I think.

Nickeplate, that definitely looks better. The blurring and
softness is subtle now, and it looks like an old photograph, not
something thats been photo edited.

I absolutely love Central Park. I have this favorite memory of
playing frisbee in the rain on one of the fields (sheep something) and
it was just me and my friend. Everyone else was hiding from the
rain. We were running around in a grass patch in the middle of
this tremendous city.

It was a feeling akin to the openning scene in Vanilla Sky, but less creepy.

About a year before I bought my digital camera I had two events that I would have given anything to have been able to photograph.

1) When that piece of Russian space junk came down over the eastern seaboard I was lucky enough to have witnessed its re-entry over Washington D.C. It was the second most amazing thing I had ever witnessed in the sky.

2) About a year before that, I had the distinct pleasure of witnessing a cloud formation. It was at sunrise and the only clouds in the whole sky comprised this. It was a fully represented image of a Phoenix flying into the sun. I would have given my arm to have captured it in some way.

Sadly, nothing has happened since I got my camera, but I keep it with me just in case.

I'm not exactly sure of the details but the machinery in the background
is used to load iron ore onto ships in these massive containers. It's
great to see the stuff in action.

I wish I was allowed onto the trawlers. Next time, I'm going to break in with a crowbar... A golden crowbar... yeah...

Okay, maybe not yours, but certainly they're far superior than mine.

He must have an awesome camera... some of those photos were taken in
very quick succession (I'm thinking about the Culver City Baseball
photos).

He's using the Canon EOS 20D according to the bottom of the pictures, which from what I remember is a digital SLR. You can find some other really good digital SLR pictures at Daily Dose of Imagery.

Anyone recommend anything for cameras? I'm thinking of getting the Konica Minolta Z6, which looks pretty good.

Here's a new one! I found this at work. It's a "Sac O Sausage"
