Oh I had a side scroll because I run on 1600x1200 resolution so I
resized the window when I took the screen grab so you wouldn't have to
look at a ginormous image just to get a feel for what the site looked
like without images.

As for being unable to see any images: it's not an ideal solution, but
maybe you can open up links to images you want to see with IE.

Keep your bulls**t to your self and realize when someone is helping you. After all, my suggestion is what you're using now.

I even commented that until there is something accomidating on the SP for your connection speed this is a viable alternative. Nothing about right or wrong ... nothing about you agreeing with me or not. I just let you know there was an alternative for your situation.

Pretty much your entire retort was bulls**t and I'm ignoring it since you took my advice anyway.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

The price just went to high.

Until further notice I would appriceate that you do not try to "help"
me anymore. I do not think you could stand being more helpful than you
already have been. You are smart about some things but, your people
skills suck.

Again, you failed to follow the discussion. I tried it, but it still fails to give the results that I desire, as per edit2.

Thanks but no thanks. Personally, even if you can behave, I am not sure I could stand more assistance of this type.
There is no history until something happens, then there is.

Oh lord, I downloaded FF 1.5 and now the reply box has blank text (I can see it if I highlight but otherwise it's invisible) Everything else seems fine...but it also buggers my replies and doesn't parse any of the code.

I've been using 1.5 for a while (since the first release candidate), and get the same bug. It also adds a line linking a stylesheet and the closing head tag to the end of the post.

There needs to be a pop culture tab.

I mean there are so many "Recomeneded [bla]" threads that are extremely
long to look through. If there was a Pop Culture tab, we'd be
able to post individual threads, or thread blocks about several
recomendations or game perceptions.
You know, I've actually got nothing to say

I don't know if this is the place to suggest this, but I believe it is. Let me know if it is not.

I enjoy this site over some other hl2 sites because there's less duplication and people are more strongly encouraged to search the forums/tuts before they ask a question.

One thing that would be nice to have is if there was an index page of topics with relevant posts/tutorials. I know keeping that up would be a pain, but if it was possible to enter key words into a field when posting a response, this could be automated somewhat. Of course, it would take a web programmer to set up, but I could see it reducing some of the other posts when people can't find an answer with search.

In otherwords, a person may mention "displacement" when describing his WIP in a post that really isn't relavent in a search where someone is trying to research a displacement issue. But if I or someone was posting an answer that is considered useful, an index field that would link the post to an index on the topic of "displacements".

There could also be another link in the forum section along with "reply" or "quote" called "index" that a member could recommend a persons post for an index link.

I think something like this would be very beneficial.

I'm afraid that the site owner and guy who incorporates any suggestions
that require behind the scenes tinkering is rarely around these days,
so your suggestion isn't likely to be implemented for a while at least,
but I like the idea. I think the system that exists does differentiate
between editing problem related posts and other posts such as WIP maps
as is (I barely ever use the search myself to be honest, so I don't
actually know!), but probably not to the extent you are meaning.
Probably something for Lep to keep in mind for whatever next version of
the snarkpit he may or may not be planning

I actually have me own suggestion that could or could not require Lep,
depending on how it is implemented. I visit mapcore a lot these days
and they have a thread over there where people can post random
screenshots of WIP maps that they don't quite feel justify having their
own thread. I think it's a great thing to have, and I myself sometimes
post stuff in there and not here at the snarkpit simply because here
requires making a map profile and the like. I sometimes find myself
tinkering in hammer with no intention of ever using what I'm building
in a full map, but that doesn't mean the scene itself isn't something
I'd like feedback on or just like to show off with a bit  I think
such a thread would encourage people to throw up screenshots on a whim,
and possibly get more people showing work at the early stages of a map
which many of us never get past. I would have made it a sticky thread
in the maps forum but I can't do that without associating it with one
of my own levels, which isn't ideal, so the options are either to make
a new forum for it (not such a good idea IMO), or just make it a sticky
in the general banter or art forums.

What do you guys think?

I smell another highly successful "Recently" thread in the making.

"Recently made"
"Recently Mapped"
"Recently Created"
"Recently Achieved"
Recently ?????"

Whatever title suggest your goal Duncan.

Tis a fair idea. It could encourage would be mappers to new concepts without the need to post a specific thread. I would view it as a sort of prefab section perhaps.

Well I made a map in my profile and linked a thread to it in the maps
section, so it's ready for use. Just be sure not to think the map in my
profile is a proper map - it is a workaround so we can have a thread in
the right forum that anybody can get posting in.

Thats the one - go into your control panel, then preferences, and turn off java features or something. FF1.5 seems to have problems with it for some reason.

Yeah, I just got home and have the same problem in FF 1.5.

It wasn't originally clear to me but like ReNo said you have to go into the SnarkPit Control Panel, then Preferences, and tick the box to minimalize the amount of Java features. I originally thought I had to change something in my FF settings, but no... just the SnarkPit ones.

Suggestion/Request:

New members should receive a double message before they can replay asking them specifically if they have read all the rules and are familiar with the place enough to post. This message should remain for at least the first 5 or 10 postings.

The message should be just annoying enough to encourage, yet not so annoying to discourage. It should clearly state that they will be stigmatized for at least a month if they dare to post in the wrong place.

The process would be: "New Topic>Warning Message>Warning Message>Submit"

or

"New Reply>Warning Message>Warning message>Submit"

I was mostly ranting.

I don't know if this is futile since Lep isn't around... but I think it
would be great if it listed who you were quoting. As it stands I
have to go back and edit my post to show who I was trying to quote.

Probably because you are using an inferior browser. IE does it just fine.

I am betting you are using that other browser that everyone cries about all the time.

So far -- this quoting problem is the
only one I've had. Besides, all the benefits FF has over IE
outweigh the one bug that hopefully Lep can take care of.

Yeah I'm fairly sure that IE does automatically add the name of the poster to the quote, but in FF you have to do it manually I'm afraid. Well worth putting up with Snarkpit's little FF quirks for the other benefits though

I surf very little these days (wonder why?)

anyway, I do not really have an opinion about which browser is best. I do however notice that nobody who uses IE ever complains, yet Firefox is always having issues.

Now, I realize, cause I am not stupid, that its as simple as coding the site for FF, but I have to ask you... If you know that FF has issues, and Lep isn't likely to put the issue on the top of the list of things to fix, why don't you load IE for only Snarkpit and stop fussing?

You guys, in your own way are at least as anal about things as I where it comes to your preferences. I swear that you'd all rather cry about Snarkpits inability to use FF than switch for a few minutes to IE.

I would be almost willing to bet that none of you would, given the chance you're all so hard headed.

As near as I can ascertain from you all, there is no benefit as far as using FF here, so why bother at all.

Next time you, or one of you tells me to get over my image thing, remember FF and I bet... You'll still tell me to get over my thing.

Tabbed browsing makes it so much easier for me to browse the forums... I couldn't give it up.

I throw every unread thread into a tab and by the time I'm finished
reading the first thread the rest are all loaded and waiting for me to
get to them.

Oh, I understand there must be perks the way everyone talks about it but, I cannot count how many times someone has bellyached about its incompatibility with Snarkpits code.

Not quite as often as I cry about screens, but anyone can just say "Thats just Orph, for get him"

Its a bit harder to listen to a few dozen people who have it within their power to alter the outcome. I cannot change an image size, but you can load another browser for a few.

Anyway.. I wish Snarkpit was more compliant with FF but its not likely to happen soonish so... Use IE and be unhappy with it but able to post without any problems.

Like AtM, it's all about tabbed browsing  Too awesome a feature to miss out on just to have people's names automatically appended to quotes and a few other tiny niggles ironed out. Tabs have changed the way I use the internet immensely - I find it such a chore to use IE for browsing these days. It's a fine browser if it's all you use or have used, but FF with its tabs and the additions of a few good plugins/extensions makes it a whole different world.

And Orph, you know fine well we don't go on about FF quite as much as you with the images

And you damned well better not because you would look silly doing so. When you have control over the situation and still bitch, it would and does look peculiar.

My wife is always beating me up because I constantly worry about things I have no control over. Its a weakness of mine that, I have no solution to.

Anyway, it always strikes me odd when people continue to cry over something they have a solution for. Even if its a solution they do not particularly like.

I use tabbed browsing in IE. The only real difference between them is Firefox tabs are on the top of the screen, and IE tabs are on the bottom of the screen (in an area called the "task bar" - check it out!)

Hey, I have a good suggestion:

The only way to return to the General Banter forum after posting is to travel up to the top of the page and click on the side bar or on the Forums/General Banter/Topic link. Can we get a link to the forums at the bottom? scrolling up is such a pain on a laptop.

Thanks Rumple! I never even noticed that little guy there! Why don't you talk more in the forums anyway? I recall you as being a nice fella.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

No worries.

I'm using FF 1.0.7 and I've never had the smiley reply box. I have to switch over to IE to get a full list of the smileys.

I have java enabled in my preferences, and besides the reply bug its the only problem I'm having right now.

Here's a screenshot of my problem: User posted image

Anyone know a workaround or a solution (besides switching browsers)?

I've never seen it without IE either - just one of those quirks that Lep never got around to fixing I guess. After a while, all the important ones just become second nature anyways

Yeah, weird. Mine looks normal in mozilla 1.7.12 and Firefox 1.0.7 No issues. It's gotta be some of your settings, I'd imagine.

You and your strange computer problems.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I saw this topic for "site suggestions" and a preview button immediately came to my mind. It's so often that you want to test out some more complicate stuff/bbcode and you have to submit the whole thing to see what it looks like.

also what's that about:
"<html><head><link rel="stylesheet"
href="themes/condensate.css" type="text/css"></head><body
topmargin=2 leftmargin=2>"

it's at the start of every post automatically.

I don't think this is worth changing, but it's just sonething funny I wanted to point out.

You can insert smilies anywhere in the page in IE.

Only that crappy/buggy browser does that here.

 Us firefox users are a vocal bunch!

reaper47, I assume you're using FF 1.5. The java features at this
site has problems with that version. So, go to the SnarkPit
control panel then go to the preferences and tick the box to minimize
java features. That should fix your problem, and it won't
eliminate too many useful features from the site.

Or if thats too much trouble you could just roll back to FF version 1.0.7
