It would depend on what the "Wii" stood for IMO.
It might be a perfectly appropriate acronym that harmonizes with "Nintendo"
shrugs
Its just a console, so its no great loss. Could be Nintendopedo for all I care. :heee:

When I first heard about the 'Google' search engine, I thought it sounded like a joke.
The shock value of this name, will 1. garner alot of attention 2. not hurt Nintendo sales 3. Wear off very quickly.
And... no one will ever forget such a simple and striking name.
Even though it sounds odd, I think i see their angle and it will probably work out just fine.

Imo it sounds completely ridiculious. I
know its been "officially" announced but it sounds like some jokey PR
trick before E3. Or maybe I just want that to be the case  Either way, its got everyone talkin about it and thats probably the point
Hello there.

Revolution sounds better ... but is pompus. Wii ... sounds ridiculous. But, would have to be the most original name Nintendo has ever put out. Also, is it going to be called Wii just outside Japan? Or what? Because, the NES and stuff was actually "Family Computer" etc.
But, then again, usually Nintendo has terrible development names. Ultra 64, Dolphine ... so on and so forth.
Apparently, also, Sega-Hudson Soft authorized that Nintendo can include the catalogs of Sega Genesis and TurboGrafix 16 to be included for download on the Revol ... wii system.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

i'm pretty much indifferent on the subject, if changing the name is going to affect people's chances of buying it they probably aren't thinking it through

"Lol, they are having this exact thread at TWHL."
Toast King? Are you still hanging around there? Get a life, you were banned and there is very little you can do about that, freak.

Honestly, if Nintendo delivers what they say they will I really don't care what it's called. It could be called Nintendo Analubtion, I wouldn't really care.
And to be honest, Wii, as crappy of a name as it may be might just be the most original name big N has come up with.
I think Sega always had the awesome names anyway. (Genesis, Master System, MSX - wish this was released in the US, DreamCast, Saturn, GameGear ... awesome)
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Hmm I don't think it's that bad. Xbox might be the dullest name ever for console. Playstation sounds like a 70ies mainframe terminal. Wii can compete with that at least it sounds like something new. I wish they kept revolution, though.

I liked the name Revolution. Wii works too though. As they say: "Any publicity is good publicity." I doubt many people are going to hinge their console purchasing decision on the name, and now it's being talked about again.... I'm not saying this was a marketing ploy to keep people from forgetting about Nintendo's next-gen console, just that it has had that effect

I agree Baron. If the games are there I wouldn't care too much about the name. Unless it was Nintendo Dildo.
Well, that kinda rhymes.

According to the twhl awards, you one the award as the largest spammer?

Oh, and I dont mind the name Wii. Sounds like 'Weeeeee!' as in happyness and excitement. Also, the amount of publicity from people discussing the name has pretty much the entire world aware of Nintindo's new release. Clever publicity.

I have rethought the name and decided to compress it to Nintendildo.
I am seeking copyrights.

Next you're going to suggest the Nintendo Vibertual Boy as their next revolutionary "hand held".
