Just found this.

Guess who shows up while I am randomly searching for one of my lost maps?

BTW, has anyone got a copy of my map "Op4_False_Accretion"?

OMG!

The Simpsons Movie!

Officially announced for July 27th 2007, trailer included. That's before HL2:Episode 2 (yea, it was delayed).

I totally missed that! I thought it'd never happen!

Very old news (I think they announced it back in June or something like that).

Fox is suppose to show a 'real' trailer for it this Sunday during the new episode of The Simpsons.

Many times they said they'd end the show right after or before making a movie. Let's hope they eat their words on that one.

I found out that the PS3 is monstrously huge:
12.8" (W) x 4" (H) x 10.8" (D), weighs 11 lbs
32.5 cm (W) x 10.2 cm (H) x 27.4 cm (D), weighs 5 kg

Just for some comparison, here's the specs on the X-Box:
12.5" (W) x 4" (H) x 10.5" (D), weighs 8.5 lbs
31.8 cm (W) x 10.2 cm (H) x 26.7 cm (D), weighs 3.9 kg

These people know this is a console, right?

The size doesn't really bother me these days. Sure, the Dreamcast and Gamecube are handy little things, but I'm not really one for moving my systems around and I likewise don't mind dedicating a fair chunk of my room to my entertainment hub

That said, it is one big ugly bastard! Considering the Sony fanboys made such a noise about the Xbox being a chunky, ugly console, it is quite humourous seeing them go back on their original stance and stick up for the PS3's "larger than life" form

They should at least make it like a DVD recorder so you can stack them. 10cm high sounds quite extreme, though.

I just thought I'd bring this up just to warn some people here so they don't get ripped off. Wait to buy a PS3.

This isn't meant as a "Sony bashing" comment. But, apparently, there are a lot of issues with the PS3's being sold right now (more buggy than the launch PS2s!). While, it seems to be able to run the PS3 games alright (which it may have issues with, I haven't heard anything though) it can't play old generation titles very well (or at all in most cases). This is odd, since the PS3 has the same chips as the PS2 (No, it doesn't use the Cell effectively here) but, it stands.

Unless you plan on spending all your time just playing the PS3 launch titles or if you need it for work obviously, then don't buy one for at least 6 months, just so Sony isn't rushing to get this thing out there and sold before other companies.
I'm sure this is obvious to a lot of people, but hey, I don't know. I'm trying to save you some hassle and crushed hopes.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I haven't heard how extreme the situation with that is, but its a shame that consoles can't seem to launch without a myriad of issues these days  I'm planning on stockpiling a few of the last good PS2 games to play on a PS3 so they don't look like arse on my HDTV (it's a tragedy what those things do to old games if they aren't upscaled  ) so backwards compatibility from the get-go is of concern to me. Hopefully they'll improve matters for the European launch.

More information.

The PS3 doesn't upscale anything as far as I know. If a game can run in an HD format on a PS2 then I imagine it will (eventually) on a PS3 also, but it doesn't take a game that runs on non-HD and upscale it to HD or anything like that. After all, for PS2 and PS1 emulation, it simply has the processors used in the PS2. So, technically, the PS2 "emulation" isn't really an emulation at all. (That's something that makes this kind of information so perplexing!)

I could be wrong, of course, but that's just how I understand it.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Awwww, lame  I don't use my 360 all that much for backwards compatibility, but it is nice being able to play some of my old games in 720p. They don't look much better than they used to or anything, but the clincher is they don't look worse, which they most certainly do on an HDTV if you don't upscale them! Now if only Microsoft would release the compatibility updates for the games people ACTUALLY still want to play - nobody gives a s**t about Fifa 2004 or other generic yearly update titles; give us Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, and all the other great one-off games!

Check it out, guys, I live in Kazakhstan!
I just read a few interesting details about Borat. Apparently it was filmed in a mud-hole of a village in Europe's very own Kazakhstan, Romania. It turns out that the villagers were told that the crew members were filming a documentary about poverty in Eastern-Europe. And get this, after deceiving them and basically making them humiliate themselves based on the premise that they would do anything for some money, in the end each villager received the "handsome" sum of 150.000 lei, which comes down to about 5USD.

Damn, now I really want to see this movie :| .

I found out today that I am completely unimpressed by the PS3. I played a demo unit in Target.

I was expecting something with amazing graphics like I've never seen ... but it turned out to look about as good as Call of Juarez. It had graphical issues surrounding models (it had a dissolve or spatial effect) and there were still jagged lines in a lot of places. The textures looked fantastic though. Which I imagine is the real graphical power of the machine: high-res textures.

Anyway, Target idiotically put the controller 2 feet from the 17" HDTV that was displaying the PS3 ... needless to say, I was very, very, dizzy when I walked away.

At first I was a bit amazed, but then I noticed that you have a bit faster processor on your new rig. I hold interest to this since 7800gs is available for AGP and my current gfx card is radeon 9800 pro. Seems to be more than twice as fast. If I'd have newer mobo I'd upgrade for sure, but I guess I'll just have to cough up some 1600? from somewhere and build a new rig next year(I need new monitor too).

I bought the 3700+ because it was cheap. It however still runs at 2.2 ghz, just like my old 3500+ did.

Linux version of Firefox 2 has the same problem as its windows partner here in Snarkpit(the black scribble in the message box), but then again this wasn't a big surprise.

Oh and to the main point of this post: I managed to get Steam run on linux(Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 + The current version of Wine). According to the listing in Wine HQ both HL and HL2 should work. I'm going to test this as soon as I get my games list downloaded and then I'm going to test some mods(namely Dystopia, Empires, Eternal-Silence and Iron Grip: The Oppression).

You should check out Cedega. It's the WineX emulator (they changed the name at some point and started charging $5 a month) and doesn't cost anything if you don't mind compiling it yourself.

They also have an emulator called Cider, which allows Intel CPU-Macs to play Windows games.

Most of you may have missed it since I posted the news in my profile but recently I lost my pickup truck off the back of a bus I was delivering. Truck was hurt beyond towing anymore, but salvageable.

Needless to say, I needed a new vehicle. I found one nearly like this one.

Its pretty sharp. One owner and only 54,000 miles on it. It was still under the previous owners warranty so its been pretty much kept well.

/me is jubilant.

HL2 played with a Wii controller!

It's a real ugly, early hack but non-fake. I don't know how I can get so excited about a console I'll probably never own but it's so funny to watch the you-tube documented big N vs Sony fan-wars.

I should grab a bluetooth antenna for my computer. Though, someone should inform these guys that the sensor bar does nothing but transmit strong IR beams, which can easily be simulated with other objects ... like candles. The Wii-Remote does all the work otherwise. (Maybe they already know that though).

There's little doubt that Japanese TV is the most extreme and exotic form of screen entertainment there is. Now I found what sounds obvious since the rise of YouTube & Co but I was still pleasantly surprised to find a Blog about Japanese TV.

Animes featuring Bill Gates as a mad world leader, giant mecha robots showing up in talkshows, things that cannot possibly described in our language. All the things you heard about but somehow never really saw before. Beautiful.
Why snark works.
