Stadric, what is this plugin called? Could come in handy, especially as some sites *cough*snarkpit*cough* aren't 100% FF compatible.

I used Opera for a while, but since it's down to the creator of a website to ensure compatibility there were quite a few sites I encountered that were partially broken or just plain would not work in Opera but worked fine in FF and IE.

I switched back to FF when 2.0 was released, the scrolling tabs and session recovery are good stuff. I much prefer Opera's download manager though.

I see polls like this and cannot help thinking, "So what hamburger is the best?"

McDonald's would win hands down. By shear force of numbers. Its NOT the best but God damned if they don't sell a s**tload of'em.

I have used every web browser mentioned, and still keep returning to IE.

In the end, no matter how many does what, we're all gonna do what we wish. In this case, as with McDonald's.. Its in the numbers.

I have heard all the pro's and con's and still have monumental issues with FF. Of course, the sites I frequent (which is very few with regards to normal internet use) prolly don't like FF either.

So lets see... IE has holes in its security.. In the years since 1999 and my advent unto the net I have had a grand total of 1 virus (sent to me via email from a friend unknowingly) and a few thousand spywares..

Yup, definitely less than most.

I think I'll suffer through IE, and its holes.

BTW, the reference to McDonald's has nothing to do with this discussion except... 40 billion burgers sold. I wouldn't doubt if the franchise had a part in sponsoring FF.

/me pets my IE and its flaws. :kitty:

IE is still the king Orph, it's just amongst the more "hardcore" internet users (i.e. those who post on forums like this) that Firefox seems more popular.

I love FF though - couldn't do without my extensions these days.

I do have it installed.

I voted for FF cos it is my browser of choice but I do sometimes use IE if the IE tab plugin don't workright. I also use Opera on my DS if I'm hanging around in airports or dont want to sit infront of my PC.

since i installed firefox, 0 adware, spyware, etc. If i work on someone's pc i make them use it, because then i don't have to clean their pc every freaking month.

seems more stable, too, than ie, and i love tabs. yeah i know ie7 has tabs now, but god I hate the look of it.

ff does use a bit more ram, but i have 2.5GB so who cares lol.

orph, the popularity argument doesn't work since IE is still more popular. FF is just more popular among enthusiasts and hardcore users who are aware of the security benefits and the glory of tabbed browsing.

Yeah I know but I really wasn't thinking of the world as a whole... More from a gaming persuasion.

Think about this comparison then: The most popular maps, aren't necessarily the best, but they are the most frequently talked about and/or promoted.

I believe that FF's popularity is only partly security based. Many people are still quite unconcerned with that, but I truly believe that FF is popular because of peer influences.

I believe this most strongly. Something will circumvent FF eventually, and it will be because its vogue to do so.

Right this moment, FireFox is vogue... With gamers at least. Nothing more.

Orpheus, believe that, if you think it's more reasonable, but FF is more than a "hip thing to have" among gamers.

I too think that, with a proper firewall, chances of browser-based internet invasions are equally low with both programs on a level most users are concerned. I also agree that security isn't the main reason for FF's popularity. But for me this only shows that the other features and general usability (Snarkpit - and I'm not exaggerating - is the only website I found in years that has problems with FF  ) is what convinces people to use FF.

My uncle got his first Laptop last Christmas. He's 60 and never used a computer before. And he uses Firefox and never had any problems with it. He dismissed Winamp because it's - quote - "too complicated". He had all kinds of problems setting up certain things in the Internet Explorer. But he uses Firefox now without any problems.

I could go on and write lists and everything but I know you then wouldn't move on to FF on principle and most other users here seem to be FFers anyway so I spare you that and just say that I believe you're totally, totally wrong about Firefox just being "vogue"!

Don't worry Reaper. You can defend all you wish with no complaints from moi.

I simply have no interest in it. Like I said, it saved my ass when I was on 56k. It has its perks but.. I'll stick with IE for my majority of uses.

Mark me though, something will replace FF eventually. Always seems to work that way in the end... And it will be peers who cause the change. Not product betterment.

I have a great download managaer extension, and about a hundred others. Firefox simply does what I want it a lot better than IE and that's why I use it. The security thing has never really been an issue for me 'cause I'm not stupid about what I visit.

That bug was fixed ages ago, Multi. In fact, I believe FF now keeps like 2 or 3 periodic backups of them.

Orph, I find it sort of insulting you insinuate we only use FF because it's "in vogue" or something. I use it because from my experience I get a hell of a lot less s**t (read: nothing) on my PC with it, unlike IE. I also love tabs, and IE only just got/copied that feature. I tried it, and it won me over for very clear, logical reasons- not because it was somehow the "cool" thing to do.

lol, of course you need a reason to first download a program. I'm confused why this speaks against it? I've downloaded many programs because people recommended them but ended up deleting most of them out of disappointment.

PS: Opera's Tab feature pwns FF because tabs can be resized within a window. That's the only thing I miss in FF. If someone knows how to do it, btw, please tell me!

I just don't understand the argumentation? Why do you compare FF with "the popular but not the best" maps and just being "vogue, with gamers at least" and "nothing more"... and then... say you never criticized FF's popularity...

It matters to me because I'd like to know whether I missed an interesting and complex conclusion I never understood or if you just denied what you said earlier? There are inconsistencies!

I don't like being confused about things like this. Quantum mechanics, OK, no problem that's supposed to be confusing. But right now I'm more confused about your answers than about Quantum mechanics and I think, "That's not right... There must be something I missed...".

LOL that is quite possibly the goofiest thing you've ever said, Orph!

I mean, are you saying you use IE because you had experience with it before you used it?! Next thing you know you'll be saying bears drive cars!

If you want to make that argument... EVERYONE tries IE because IT COMES WITH WINDOWS. What more of a possible advantage could it have over other browsers in terms people trying it?

Also, you are suggesting that because something is "popular" it is necessarily not as good, which is a total logical fallacy. It would be just as untrue for FF users to suggest that IE is worse because it's more popular, which we are not saying at all.

I've been using Firefox for a few years, another employee at MicroCenter mentioned it to me. That was cause to TRY it, but that has nothing to do with why I KEPT using it. I mean, I tried CS because it was popular and recommended... and I quit playing because it freaking sucks.

The only error I have on Snarkpit with FireFox is when I try to add an emoticon. No problems anywhere else, except for Windows update of course lol.

Any reason for using IE before IE 7 can be overruled by these two words: "tabbed browsing".
With the dawn of IE 7, my reason for sticking with FF is because of something my Dad always tells me about new technology: don't be the first kid on the block to the get the new toy, wait until they work the kinks out.

I have to switch between Internet, Network and Local Disks as well as FTP many many times during the day at work. IE6 lets me do all this very efficiently.

I don't like all the issues with FF. The Snarkpit doesn't even work with it.

IE7 is trash...

I have always used IE, and i love it. I have NEVER gotten spyware, adware or any viruses. I have never seen any of these security holes that all the noobs seem to be getting into.

When it gets to the point where things won't work with IE6 I guess I'll have to find something different. hopefully opera and/or FF will have better support.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

Opera + windows = fastest rendering engine. Too bad opera is bloated with features and a*se to configure.

Firefox + linux = fast.

Firefox + windows = bit of a resource hog, but still good to work with.

IE7 = Where are all the buttons ffs ?

i can say the same. i don't even have any antivirus installed, i don't need it... no. but whenever i have to visit those non-secure webpages i use "deepfreeze".

IE is enough!

Hmm, it also seems inconsistent posting patterns can drive me nuts quickly. It was late, also. I'm actually afraid of reading what I typed earlier...

asterix_vader, you should be careful without using an antivirus program (does that mean no firewall either?). I thought I don't need them, too. Until HL refused to start one day, telling me the executable was changed and it's probably a virus. I just thought that's a lame excuse for crashing or broken updates. But then I installed a AV/Firewall kit, did a test and discovered a gazillion viruses, spyware ect that already brought my PC close to total breakdown.

Not even Firefox can help here...

This morning when Steam failed to load, I turned off zone alarm for a moment to see if that was the cause.. (it wasn't btw) and damn in just a few seconds I was assaulted by spyware.

Needless to say, I had my zone alarm back up in a short but then I had to run my scans to get the s**t out again.

Forking Steam, causes me trouble even when it doesn't work.

Try this and see.
ok it was at 80% or so and i stopped it. it found like 88 spyware and 22 virus, most of them were dlls (many wsock32.dll), cookies, exes (i know them all). none was actually a virus.

now i'm sure there's no need to install an antivirus. thanks for the link!

I use Opera and I don't have any problem configuring anything. And I'm pretty sure IE7 ripped all of the graphics from Firefox. At least, it appears that way.
