Good Evening Chaps! Here we shall post picrures of our desktops. This includes start menu, time in the bottom right hand corner and desktop icons. We shall also discuss our desktop pictures, and where we got the wallpaper and so on...

So let us start with my desktop picture ....

User posted image

Now this desktop is from my Laptop. Its a nice compaq. The wallpaper is so pro, but I change it every now and again. Now on this computer I used to have Windows Vista, but it ran way to slow for my likeing, so I re-installed windows xp and copied over some of the Vista Icons to remind me of the old days (my computer Icon is vista)

The weird stuff folder on my desktop is where I put all this random crap that people give me, or that dosen'y fit anywhere else ( I dont use My documents )

I have deticated the top of the screen to Half-life and Half-life editing and the bottom to Halo and Halo editing. And you can see at the top, "reddawn screenshots" folder, full of pictures that may or may not be on a forum soon. The game-makeing folder is full of stuff for game-makeing. Its about 1gb big, and jam packed with programs, most of them stupid. The weirdst program in there is a pogram to add bots to half-life 1 multiplayer games. Thats a fun one.

1. Firefox is god
2. BF2142 is a decent game, not worth $50 bucks though. If its on sale get it.
3. My back round is a fractal. Did some Google image searches for fractals one day until I found a cool looking one.

For your information, Aaron, I'm running windows 2000. I see nothing wrong with that. For the avoidable security risks I've not been immunized from by upgrading, I'm without the security risks from XP. (Not to mention a few dozen megs of memory and a few million neurons saved by not having some of the new "helper" programs.)

rs6, I'm going to go look up fractals on Google Image Search. I can't believe I forgot about those.

You have to be a moron to think firefox is stupid. wait wait. Maybe I shoudl ask first..what browser are you using now? If your using opera, then good choice, its almost as good. If you say IE, then your a whore, switch to Firefox and watch all your spam go away. Honestly if your even remotely computer savvy you'd know firefox is a much better choice in terms of web browsers.

Anyways heres mine, not much in terms of background, but the fancier the back ground the longer it takes to load the desktop when your tabbing from Source engine to hammer. =P

XP is 2000. The security holes existent in the 2K kernel are present in the XP kernel. Not defending it or anything, just pointing that out.

Normally it is 1680x1050, but I've scaled it down as posting it fullsize would be a bit pointless

User posted image

I normally have a bit more clutter on it, but not a great deal - I like a clean desktop. The "scratchpad" text file in the bottom left I use to keep any notes I need to make, like jotting down a phone number or a random game idea or something. Other than that I use shortcuts to all my drives rather than bother going through My Computer, and I don't use My Documents at all so no point in having that on there.

Ahh the power of sleep, I wake up and theres more stuff to reply to:

Gwils Desktop= Interresting wallpaper. I see you have winamp. What do you have against Windows media player?

Rumple's Desktop= What is that wallpaper anyway. Blacl hairy thing in orange nothingness. You have also 'upped' your start menu bar thing. Thats a good idea. I might do that.

ReNo's Desktop= Very Spic and Span. Whats with the wallpaper. Did you make it, or is it from a game or something.

French Toast's Desktop= Cool wallpaper. Rumple should be pleased (lol). Its hard to belive that that is a painting. Whats with the sidebar? Wheres that from. And was it your birthday recently.

Now out of all of us, Who do you reackon has the best deaktop. You can choose on wallpaper, tidyness whatever.

Theres nothing to 'extra' about windows media player, although its nice how you can copy audio cd's to your computer with it and stream live radio. Its more of the fact that there is nothing wrong with it. No bugs, no glitches. It does its job. Playing music.

About the bar on the right side of my desktop. It's a handy app from Google called 'Google Desktop'. It installs that little bar on the right, and there are hundreds of little modules that you can just add to it. I have a clock, a scratch pad, GMail, a google search, and a wikipedia search. Great tool.

And thanks to that link I got, my new wallpaper is this one.

Theres nothing to 'extra' about windows media player, although its nice how you can copy audio cd's to your computer with it and stream live radio. Its more of the fact that there is nothing wrong with it. No bugs, no glitches. It does its job. Playing music.
WMP absolutely blows....No bugs my ass.

winamp for music, VLC for videos is the way to go.

Riven, I love what you did to the shadows in that map  I take it you had the lightmap grid scaled down to something such as 2? 'Tis a pity that large scale maps can't take advantage of shadows like that, for framerate reasons :/
Breaking the laws of mapping since 2003 and doing a damn fine job at it

Oh I know, that map alone which is just comprised of that scene took like 6 minutes to compile, no HDR. Normally it would compile in less than 30 seconds, but yea, the grid was at 2 for most of it. Just wanted to see what Source could do...
