30 Days of Night was pretty badass. It's very, very, close to the graphic novels, no doubt because of Steve Niles' involvement with the project.
One thing Niles did with the graphic novel, that is preserved here, is the general character of the vampires, which are fairly unique in the realm of vampire movies.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Man, I just watched Stardust and I have to say its easily the best movie i've seen all year. It's an extraordinarily cliche kind of storyline, but they pull it off so spectacularly that you don't even care. the entire universe they create is so brilliant, not to mention the best performance by DeNiro I've seen...
Top notch film, I encourage you all to check it out...

Planetes: I missed a few episodes, but caught most of the series, I really enjoyed it, especially the REALISTIC parts.
The series actually contemplates real issues in the future in a realistic manner, including the evolving politics of space travel and development.
If you're looking for a good series to check out, go for it. It, of course, has some of the usual anime quirks, like a couple flamboyant characters and some machoistic ones too.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Just saw 1408, it would have been pretty good if I wasn't making Samuel L Jackson jokes the whole time. Mutherfukin ghosts.

Mixed feelings on "August Rush". It's sappy, sentimental and sad. What gets me about movies like this is the "Seinfeld-ish" coincidences that permeate them... it was "in the stars!"
Like a scene where the father and son play their guitars together in the park (not knowing their connection to each other), touching, but not likely. Anyway, The music was probably what made the film and it's connection to the characters. It's also good to see Robin Williams doing something besides lighting his "improvised" farts. 3 out of 5.
Watched "Shoot 'Em Up" last night... I enjoyed it, but it was over the top with "not based in reality" violence. The main character killed 100s of people with perfect shots, I don't think more than two or three bullets that came out of his guns missed their targets.
It had a Transporter \ Mission: Impossible feel to it with so much "over the top" action. So, I'd have to say it was more of a "fantasy" action movie on the same lines of Sin City. 3 out of 5
don't sweat the petty stuff, just pet the sweaty stuff.

Live Free or Die Hard Unrated.
I saw it in theaters and I didn't think it was too bad ... but this is a much better version, why? Replace every "damn" and "goddammit" in the movie with "f**k" and "mother f**ker" and you'll have your answer. They're not dubs either, which is cool.
The actual pacing and "hardness" of the movie is the same, however, which is sort of soft.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

The Wicker Man (original).
Good film, makes an interesting observation on the nature of belief - especially the notion of "conversion" or heathens, working for both parties. Good climax, weirds you out in a good way! Plus, dancing nude ladies = +10 points.

Don't watch Man on the Moon expecting a history lesson. Andy Kaufman's life is rewritten intentionally, and there's a significant amount of events that aren't in the right order. For example, Lorne Michaels wasn't even working on SNL when the whole vote to ban Andy Kaufman for life thing happened. Jim Carrey and Paul Giamatti are excellent as Kaufman and Bob Zmuda but's it's not your typical biopic.

Only there was'nt a ton of comedy in the movie. It's more or less a tragedy. Kaufmans unique sensibillities are represented well by the chameleon-like Cary. but it's not what I'd call a feel good movie.
btw, I think Lorne Michaels has been with SNL since the very beginning. Every season in some capacity.
Quoting IMDB:Saturday Night Live" (producer) (107 episodes, 1975-1980) (executive producer) (56 episodes, 1976-2007)

No. Lorne Michaels (along with the entire cast and writing staff) left the show following the 1979-1980 season to go make it big in Hollywood. He made a few movies during this time, but no huge successes.
In the start of the 1980-1981 season, which featured an entirely new cast, former something-or-other Jean Doumanian was the producer. She was awful, and the show nearly got canceled. Some guy she didn't actual want to hire, Eddie Murphy, started getting some attention though, so they decided to retool the show. One of the guys who worked with Lorne in the original conception of the show, Dick Ebersol, stepped in as producer. He was producer of the show from the last episode of the 1980-1981 season (mercifully made short by a writer's strike) until the end of the 1984-1985 season (when he left to spend more time with his family by taking a more 9-5 position with NBC). It was during Dick Ebersol's tenure when the infamous voting off incident occured. Lorne returned to producing the show starting with the 1985-1986 season and is still with it.
I know these things. I'm a bonafide SNL geek. Name me a year and I can tell you exactly who was in the cast that year, off the top of my head.

Cloverfield was quite awesome. It does what a lot of monster attack movies want to do, but never quite get to. The only downside is some of the characters do some really stupid things ... though, I suppose if it were real there'd be people who'd make the same stupid decisions.
I do recommend it, but you'll most likely feel split about the movie. I enjoyed it, though. Also, it's the closest thing we'll ever get to Cthulhu in a movie.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

The Sopranos Season 5
Watched it in 2004 and again recently since I got it on DVD for Christmas. Great storylines. Tony Blundettos release from prison and trying to go straight, 'Feech' La Manna vs. Paulie Walnuts and Sal Vitro, Carmine Lupertazzis death and the following trouble between the 2 families in Brooklyn, a surprising discovery about Vito Spatafore, and AJs hilarious attitude to his parents. etc

I saw Cloverfield today and it was way more entertaining than I expected. A few small changes and one scene cut/changed and I feel this nearly could have been an action movie classic. It certainly was one of if not the best monster movies I've seen.
Woulda been nice as well if they reduced the shaky-ness of the shakycam just a bit. The headache afterwards wasn't fun.

Yeah I know a couple people got ill after that ( cloverfield ). I will not see it having a personal boycott of movie theatres and their lousy everything.
Recently i watched the first 2 dvds of BSG reimagined for the first time, and was surprisingly blown away. Quality stuff on so many levels. Have not seen any of season 3 though

Weird. I didn't feel any of this and thought it is because people used to playing FPS games are more prone to "motion sickness".</DIV></DIV>
You mean 'less prone', right? I'd think so too, but I got a concussion from sports a few years back and ever since then any herky-jerky left/right motion that I'm not in control of gives me a pounding and lasting headache. No rollercoasters for me anymore

Meet the Spartans just looks like the latest in a series of trash movies people make to milk other peoples cash cows.
I will not be seeing it, it looks like something that would entertain all the douchebags I know.

The Number 23 - Best suspense movie I've seen in a long time. Jim Carrey gave a commendable performance and this movie is proof that film critics, by and large, are bandwagoning f**ktards.
Cool Hand Luke (again, for the umpteenth time) - Prime example of excellent American cinema.
Stargate Atlantis - I never liked SG-1, but I think Atlantis is one of the best series on TV at the moment. I think having one main enemy makes for better episode plots. The actors are better than SG1 as well (my opinion), nothing spectacular though.
