MaryB made the following official FLF maps: flf_snow, flf_fox, flf_job, flf_chion, flf_icehammer, flf_pano, flf_risu, flf_sogem, flf_qcity, flf_ebonysword, flf_rmego

While Pano and Rmego are extreme pieces of crap, and she's only co-author of risu, I think that's still a hefty resume.

Oh, I remember Voltigore. She was a fairly decent mapper as well. Maybe KFS should force / persuade Maggie to map...

EDIT: Oh, I remember MaryB too.

I think we had a female member a while back... I don't really remember though. it makes sense that there aren't very many. FPS is I think the ultimate guy genere in a larger community dominated by xy chromosoms. Mappers make up a small subset of FPS players, therefore the number of women among our ranks would be expected to be vanishingly small.

who (was) she?
She worked on DarkTruths, back when it was alive, as an assistant project leader (what did she do? Everything Tal-N was supposed to do, funnily enough). Then she got annoyed with Tal-N (of course), and then just decided to leave the community. Can't clearly remember why though.

CJ, I'll see what I can do about Maggie

I met someone online who was trying to learn, but never got too far. If her picture was in fact real, she was also what would qualify as "hot." Given that it looked like a normal amateur scanned/digital photo and not some professional bit from the pages of the SI swimsuit issue, I would lean towards saying it was.

lol, no babykitkat doesn't map. She's tried, and I've tried teaching her a few things, but she can't get down the need to be able to see the map in 3D while ya build it.

She is my harshest critic, tho...

If she was a mapper, she would make some beautiful maps tho...she loves to decorate the house on the Holidays and she definitely has an eye for flair.

i have known a few female mappers, their priorities were somewhat different that the average male counterpart made maps..

it wasn't anything i could put my finger on really, but (maybe it was cause i knew who made it) but i could always tell who made what map just by looking around it.

granted i have not seen all female made maps, and 2 females actually opted to post as men to get more respect, or in their words "taken seriously" but all the maps i have seen made by females have been strictly functional maps, nothing creative about them.. rooms, halls, rooms, halls, ect, ect

i wonder really, what is the ratio of males and female mappers, and just how many women pass themselves off as men

Lucky isn't quite the first word I'd use to describe Romero. The guy went from making some of the most influential video games in history to working on cell phone games and advertising spyware on his web site. I think he's with some 18-year-old Romanian girl now.

How about a discussion on why female mappers are so rare? A few obvious possible reasons:
  • Women don't see the point of gaming.
  • Women don't get thrills out of violence.
  • Women don't get off on their hardware (big computer = big dick).
  • In social interaction, women are much better at reading body language and facial expression. Online communities feel less "real" to women than men because the lack of these signals is more noticeable to women.
All generalisations of course, and perhaps false as well.

Wrong. I got this one girl on my class that played GTA3. Found out this in class bar-night before xmas. Then she borrowed my GTA:VC  .. and got totally addicted for few months

oh yeah.. she loves violence.. she told she was laughing at movie theater when she first time saw Kill Bill - Volume 1
