A mere 14. I think some of it can be attributed to whether you find them attractive or not though. But yeah, I guess I'm pretty bad at reading people's faces. Why doesn't PBS ever have anything interesting like this?
[edit] Attractive Brits exist! I read about them in my fairy-tale book.
They really did have some ugly people there though. Of course I'll think their smiles are fake. Except that guy with the giant gap in his teeth.

Why is the BBC showing people how to judge one another using very basic psychological/scientific principals?

16.
I didn't use any of the methods listed there, actually, and it worked pretty well. But I won't tell anyone unless you really want to know, since A_S seems to have issues with that

Obveously, since most people got better than 10/20 people have a natural ability to spot fake smiles without the aid of any specif ic ques. I just wnt on my gut feeling.

I've personally found it easier to tell whether a woman is faking or not (Don't even try it). Since I don't look at men smiling too often (or ever).

Oregon must be a pretty dismal place if the guys don't smile that much.
I wonder what the people in the pictures were actually smiling at...?

I went with my gut, and got 18/20. One thing that I noticed, is when the smile seemed genuine, it looked like they had to fight a little to 'tuck' it back in; like the camera man cracked a joke, then said "ok..now stop smiling". The fake smiles just seemed like a smile 'switch' was turned on, then off.
Oh..and how spoiled we are by all the gorgeous people on television. Those people looked pretty average to me.

6/20, but then I had no idea what I was supposed to be judging - I thought I was picking between real and computer simulated smiles, not the way it really worked.

Most of them were fine finger, there were just a few oddities. Take the pineapple man for example.

Many were obvious. An obvious smile was when the clip started and ended with a slight grin or smile

I'm in Vancouver, known for its drizzle and wet weather, but this year has been really, really dry. We're really screwed for water in the summer.

got 18/20...
its kind of hard when you're just looking at a photo... in a real conversation, its much different. especially with the context..!! i mean, shes not gonna give you a real smile when you tell you that you finally bought that ati 9800pro. what shes actually thinking... "omfg another $400 thrown down the toilet that could have been spent on me"
