Pretty poor swordfights actually, and the camera work takes the typical "make it shaky so people don't notice the lack of fighting abilities" approach to the extreme. Some nice sequences, particularly the ice fight, but otherwise rather...

Unimpressive - the American "epics" are far more awe-inspiring.

Uneventful - not enough battles, hints of character depth and development are under-developed.

Unoriginal - doesn't break any new ground, this is nothing new from the likes of Braveheart or Gladiator, both of which are better films.

Anyone else watch 'sex lives of the potato men'? I though it was funny
enough in places. It's a bit strange though, but I suppose that's part
of its charm.

It mightn't have made it over to the USA, it's an English film. It's very crude, but it's mostly implicit.

I loved The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs, to varying degrees. Not the best movies in the world, but I guess I just like the director's style. He really knows how to immerse people, I guess the people who slip below the radar are the ones who hate his movies.

And there's a reason you haven't heard of "Sex lives of the Potato Men". Its because apparently it's the worst british film ever.

"Plan 9 From Outer Space" has been rated by the academy as the worst film ever and Ed Wood Jr. as the worst Director of all time.

However, you can't bash Plan 9 too much, simply because Ed Wood (the movie) is awesome.

A lot of people have made insinuations that Tim Burton has an undying respect for Ed Wood Jr.

He made Ed Wood, a film (loosely) based on the life of Ed Wood Jr. Then Burton made his own catastrophe of a space movie, Mars Attacks.

I did not even realize that Mars Attacks! was a product of Tim Burton. How disappointing. I always thought that Tim was a decent man.

:microwave: <--- what you should do if you accidentally buy Mars Attacks!.

I think the movie being astronomically bad was the point, BC.
It was a 'tip of the hat' to Ed Wood Jr.

And don't even act like Burton hasn't done other pieces of crap (Planet of the Apes).

Instead of working on my comp map, I saw four movies today.

COLLATERAL: Pretty good. Fox, Cruise, and Smith all did excellent jobs in their roles, and the movie had no dull moments. There are some really tense and cool sequences, especially near the end.

THE TRANSPORTER: A stupid and pointless story backed up by stupid and pointless action. Much of it makes little sense and isn't all that cool. The oil fight was one of the most retarded things I've seen in a while.

BLADE II: This was more entertaining than I remember, but just like the first one it began to fall apart near the end. The beginning is cool, the middle is cool, but the end just becomes dumb. The love interest added an interesting angle, but she was wasted given the outcome. This movie is a shining example of a wasted opportunity to make something great, just like the original.

RESERVOIR DOGS: Pretty cool. It's interesting, moving, funny, gruesome, saddening, and certainly worth watching.

Cool.

Its the one movie that you CAN'T say Val Kilmer is a pansy in ... unless by pansy you mean lunatic. (That also goes for Tombstone and Ghost And The Darkness)

I thought Ronin was at best ordinary. It was spoiled for me when De Niro was allowed to get away with pronouncing Hereford "Heerford" when denouncing Sean Bean.Any self-respecting Englishman would have booted him in the nuts and told him to f**k off.

That apart, De Niro was, as always, brilliant.

I-Robot, was nothing more than an extended Commercial. It had its good points but over all I was disapointed.

The Village, Talk about CRAP.. I think I found a movie to put above Blair Witch in crappyness.

I got the Band Of Brothers on DVD and watched those.. now theres a Good Movie ( or Mini-Series ).

You're a godamn liar and you know it.
That or your expectations were so low ... that it had what I'd like to call 'The Terminator 3 Effect'.

Its when your expectations for a movie are so incredibly low that dog s**t could be better. In that situation, the movie fools you into thinking it is good ... but you are uneffected by its powers the second time around. See it again and tell me its good ... then I'll just call you crazy

Heh, crono

edit: i loved it so much i forgot the title.

No Man's Land

BBC4 on BBC1 showed this
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0283509/ a couple o' weeks ago, i watched
it on the basis of the TV announcers comments

A non combat war story, set in a non american/WWII environment -
different already! follows the story of 2 bosnian soldiers who are
stuck in no mans land in a small trench, with a serbian soldier. 1 of
the bosnians is unable to move (he's lying injured on a mine), and
neither of the other 2 soldiers are able to gain control of the
situation - so, they have to tolerate each others companies.

tempers flare, and the futility of war is exposed - dark humour also
pops up now and again ("why should i do what you say?" "because im
holding a gun and youre not!"). stuck in this situation, the UN
peacekeeping force intervenes, and is held back by bureacracy.

a deep, and different look at war, humanity and the vulture like nature
of media and its need to swarm around suffering. also a harsh criticism
of how the international community fails to respond to desperate
situations because of political jockeying and the bad old red tape.

one more thing - amelie fans? this beat Amelie to best foreign language
film at the 2002 Oscars, and deservedly so. a must see, in my humble
opinion.

Amelie was quite a cool film actually, not the sort of film I'd have expected to enjoy but I did  I was flicking through channels the other day and saw a bit of that film Gwil, but didn't watch much. I also watched some of another foreign film, shown the day before, about a social experiment of putting normal people into a prison situation, with half of them being guards and half inmates (or thats what I gathered). While again, I didn't watch too much of it, it certainly came across as an interesting and different film, I might try and dig it up sometime.

thats Das Experiment by the sounds of the description ReNo, it was
based on some trials that took place in the U.S. - its german with
subtitles.

quite depraved yet a good film still - a nice look at how power
corrupts and how humans are easily led/supressed by each other..
extremely violent and disturbing at the same time.

's**tty Horror' is definitely a genre all it's own, completely seperate from regular Horror movies. I love most older, moslty unknown, horror flicks. They're just so much damn fun to watch just because they're so bad.

Just finished watching the exorcitst, it is a pretty good film, a bit boring at times, but still a good film [ taking into account that it is aged].
