Gmail?

So I have a number of Gmail invites now. If anyone would like one, PM me. First two PMs with a name and e-mail address (needed for the invite form) get addresses. Gotta save a couple for my other friends, too. :razz:

For anyone who has forgotten, Gmail is Google's new e-mail service still currently in Beta. It comes with one gigabyte of storage space (I think my old POP folders never got much beyond 30-50, heh) and has nifty features like message labels (like folders, only you can apply multiple ones to each message) and the ability to search your e-mail with its own mini-search engine. It's quite nice. :smile:

Should give one to the runner up of the mapping contest.

account ... register at www.blogger.com, write a silly log, and in your
control panel, you'll see an invitation :biggrin:

So if Hugh and fizscy are up for it, we could use these two initial invites to get everyone here a gmail account? Kind of like a pyramid scheme but in reverse so it actually works :smile:

You get them in your inbox after a while ... Gmail hands them out to registered users, you just have to wait.

Yeah, but that's when they want more users, and they give it to random people. In short, could be a loooong wait.

Would be nice to have a delete post option, then I could delete the old one and not make double or triple posts.

Edits aren't always the best thing to do in my opinion, as the thread won't be listed as updated on the forums page so you may not bother checking it again. If the posts are after a significant time gap (30 minutes or so) and are of some importance, I think a new post is preferrable to an edit.

Exactly... But if we could delete our posts, you could simply copy the text on post 1, delete it, and paste it for post 2 and add to it.

While that makes sense to avoid the clutter of double posts yet get the advantage of updating the thread, I think it would be easier if Lep made editting threads update them on the forum view...or perhaps give users the option of making it update a thread so they can not bother if they were making insubstantial changes such as fixing typos.

So do the invites come as an email? If I get some I'll post here under the same terms.

Some friends of mine were telling me you get more invites if you use it more frequently... ("frequently" being some nebulous term that Google has tried to define)

Well I'm one of those people that has no life and keeps visiting my sites over and over each hour to see if anything has changed So that may be why it only took 14 hours for me to get invites :smile:

You have to wait a month or 2 to get your invites, I've only just got mine and I've got 3 left. And no I'm not handing them out to anyone so don't bother PM'ing me unless I know who you are lol!

Gmail isn't just about the space you get though. It's about the interface, it's so unique and cool. Oh and btw if you don't like other people reading your emails don't use Gmail. Read the terms and conditions google team are allowed to read them I believe, its part of thier mission to organise the internet without physically moving anything.

Microsoft are allowed to read hotmail messages, and they probably do.

Depends on your definition of black metal, but In Flames and Katatonia are awesome.

Do you know of Dark Throne? They're from Norway, but they're one of the biggest black metal groups. Or Sorhin?

Can't say I've heard of either... I've heard of Dimmu Borgir/Opeth/Otep but I don't like any of 'em... Norther might be 'black metal,' I can't say I can tell the differences between those crazy genres.

Not me either really, I just listened to black metal quite much for a
year or so, eventually I got a little tired of it, but I still like
some of it.

death metal - crowbar, exhumed, nile (i think)

black metal - cradle of filth (pains me to say it), emperor,
darkthrone, burzum (quite good actually, dont like much at all from
either of these genres, but his soft synth stuff is great)

i guess in flames fit in with death/black combined kinda thing, i dunno

• i'd say they were maybe grindcore or something like that. never heard

of katatonia.

Heh, I still have 2 invites cause my friends didn't want the accounts (I'll get the second back in 3 weeks once it becomes void). If anybody wants it, they'll have to volunteer their services to work with me on my soon to start Half-Life 2 mod (Pink Floyd's The Wall).
