So a little over a week ago I finally got a copy of World of Warcraft after they finally started putting more copies out. Anyone else play? I realize there's a pretty high percentage of European folks here, so many of you would have only just recently had the opportunity to buy the game and probably couldn't play on the same servers, but I'm curious nonetheless.
It's my first MMO, and the one I always suspected would finally make me cave in and try one. It's an incredible game. It's like Diablo 2 in a lot of ways, very item and loot centered but with a worthwhile currency system and hardly any penalties.
That's the best thing about this game. Constant rewards. Everything you do, including logging out and spending time in the real world, benefits your character. Killing stuff gives you experience. Quests always give you experience and a decent item or copper/silver/gold payout. Items break and become unusable, but can always be repaired and they never are destroyed. There's no penalty for death, provided you can find and reach your corpse. And when you log out from a city or inn, you gain resting experience bonuses that give you double experience from monster kills up to a certain xp cap the next time you play.
The world is also really amazing... Further proof (like Half-Life 2, but even moreso) that solid art direction is one of the biggest factors in how impressive a game world can be.
For any of you who do play, I play in a guild of co-workers on Azgalor and go by the name Qungfeuskrl. Yes, that's a lame name. I know.

A couple of mates of mine have been playing and they love it. I haven't
personally as I'm not really into that kind of roleplaying game. I
might have to give it a go sometime though, as I've only heard good
things about it.

Is this not a "Pay to Play" game?
if so... not likely to enter my home.. if not, then I will definitely want to check it out.
on a side note, I am so excited... Empire Earth II will be out shortly. I am even more hyped than I ever was for HL2.
Seriously though, I don't think any game is worth paying twice to play it.

My flatmates played the WoW beta's in the UK religously (one reached
level 44 with the others not far behind) and now that the game has just
been released they are being pulled right back in. This sucks, because
we have a uni group project that requires a sizeable amount of work,
which seems at the current work rate, isn't going to get done. Damn you
Blizzard!
I'm quite tempted by the game but realise I'll probably get sucked in
and play too much, much like my flatmates. Instead I'm gonna continue
buying some of the recent Xbox releases - Project Zero 2 was every bit
as fun and frightening as the first game (best survival horror games
EVARR!!), and Otogi 2 is more of the same but having 6 characters
instead of 1 and new levels is plent incentive for me to waste many
more hours unlocking everything and maxing stats  Might try
Mechassault 2, DOA: Ultimate, and KOTOR 2 as well...once I find some
cash that is.

Was tempted but i'd only be able to play it for 2/ 1 1/2 months, when
I'd come back to it the "peak period" will have probably passed.
Shame as it looks really good fun, and there's already a well
established guild attached to another forum I browse. Maybe the next
time

Between taking my final senior level classes, working my main job, plus
doing two consulting projects, I'm afraid I just don't have time for
MMORPGs (Massively Multi-Player RPGs). I've played a number of
them over the years though, starting with Ultima Online in 1997,
then EQ, AC, DaoC, SWG, and most recently CoH and EQ2 very
briefly.
However, I never stuck with any of them long enough to reach max level,
except DaoC when it first came out ( I had no life at the time).
I just don't have the patience for that sort of thing.
That being said, if you do have the the time available, and you have
a group of dedicated friends to play with, then WoW is likely worth
checking out. Don't do EQ2 though...it was Teh SuX0rz  .

Ahhh its nice to be back, good work Lep. Ive been playing WoW, great game really, although the shere amount of time one must put into playing it is daunting  . To hop to level 10-15 took me 3 days! I can only imagine ill be able to pass 1 level a day, and then 1 level a week, but the rewards are great!

I just started playing WoW and I must say that it's pretty awesome. I've always wanted to play an MMORPG but never really had the opportunity, plus I felt that none of the available options were worth playing for any length of time. WoW is very close to what I imagined my perfect MMORPG would be: horde vs alliance combat, tons of quests, PvP, a bunch of crafting skills just for the hell of it, no sense of grinding, and most importantly a real sense of purpose when you're playing. I'm not gaining levels so that I can move to the next area but so I can get one step closer to marching into horde territory and killing them all. The name Yakfighter will be feared across Kalimdor!
Just yesterday I came this close to killing a very high level Undead mage with a level 19 warrior

I'm piggybacking off a friend's account for now. I might be able to get
the CD-Key and acct off another friend and purchase some games cards
(if I go that way I'll be on Mal'Ganis as well Cass.) Until then I'm
"Gearshift" on Kel'Thuzad.

Looks great but the monthly subscription fee is a big turn off for me as I doubt I would get my moneys worth in game time (too much other stuff to do  ).
I'm going to wait for Guild Wars as it's got no monthly charges, is really good fun, and you can drop in and out when you please without feeling like you're missing something.

I got it for Christmas and have been playing it since. I love this game.
If you want to find me I'm in the Terenas realm and I'm playing as a Nightelf Druid level 30, my name is Emogilo and I'm running a guild which is working out great.
P.S. when did Snarktpit come back up?

i have no problem ith WoW, but I prefer Lineage 2 myself...
btw, it seems it's a rule to make female elf characters hotter than any other races in any game. I wonder why...

Before this thread gets into a discussion about hot elves and what-not,
are there any tips/tricks/hints worth sharing with everyone here?
