new NIN single = damned catchy. A lot closer to Pretty Hate Machine than The Fragile.

New "The Mars Volta" album is pretty damn cool. They basically made thier music such a blend that the only title for the genre of music really is alternative. Very cool album though, and the whole album (only 5 tracks long) is actually just 1 song split into about 15 pieces. Album is called "Frances the Mute".

I also got the Mars Volta album, and there's no doubting that it's good - but I prefer their first album more. Too many pointless 'salsa' (or whatever it's supposed to be) interludes.

I also got the new Goldfinger album, which is OK but nothing special.

Steely Dan and the Barenaked Ladies are the best bands ever.

I've also been to live concerts for each, and they sound better than their albums, unlike most bands.

Hehe, one week is a great song, reminds me of american pie lol.

My local Best Buy is selling the Mars Volta album at $6, the lowest I've ever seen a full nationally released CD at. Plan on picking it up tomorrow.

Got two more Elliott Smith CDs, Either/Or and his self-titled, both amazingly good as I'd hoped/expected.

Then I got The Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland, mostly quality Goth rock, though sometimes it drags on too long.

Dream Theater's "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence".. if you're
into metal (or just want something new), i highly recommend this.

'Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons'. One of the very few songs to
move me to tears as i listened. it's ~24 minutes long, and has entire
segments dedicated to instrumental.. so keep an open mind. Here's a
small taste..

The only song from Dream Theatre I've heard is Fatal Tragedy, and I quite enjoy it.

I recently got the Kaiser Chiefs album. "Oh my God" and "Modern Way"
are great tracks, but I'm not too sure about some of the other tracks.
Anyone else got the album?

This month looks like it will be good for albums - Moby (Hotel), The
Bravery and Queens of the Stone Age (Lullabies to Paralyze) all look
like they'll be good albums.

I got the Kaiser Chief's album yesterday and it's pretty cool. It reminds me somewhat of the Dogs Die In Hot Cars album though.

I also picked up the new Idlewild album but haven't had a chance to listen to that one yet - but I know it'll be good.

edit Also got Mastodon and Soilwork's most recent albums too. Soilwork just keep getting better and better!

This week I have been mostly listening to Tsunami Bomb, Baz Luhrmann - Sunscreen, and what ever was playing at the bars and clubs I was at a coupple of hours ago

I've snagged myself:

Spoon - Girls Can Tell: Very good CD, got it 'cause I liked "Me And The Bean" from before and I finally checked out the rest of the CD which stacks up nicely.

Spoon - Kill The Moonlight: Fairly decent CD, not as good as Girls Can Tell but better than a lot of crap that people like these days... "The Way We Get By" is not a very good song at all, really rather annoying. "Paper Tiger" is pretty good, though.

Ween - Quebec: Mostly awesomely weird stuff, "Zoloft" + "Transdermal Celebration" + "Happy Colored Marbles" = great.

Its an older song but its really good.

Verve Pipe - Bittersweet Symphony

I downloaded Good Charlotte's latest album out of sheer curiosity
(doing that a lot lately...), hearing that it was quite a far cry from
the other album...I can only find two good songs, one is the opening
intro thingy (some sort of asian orchestral piece, mad stuff for GC), and that new song
"I just wanna live", which is just too damn catchy for it's own good.
So yeah, avoid except those two songs.

Good Charlotte's first album was pretty good, but the second was the
beginning of a downward spiral it would seem :sad: I've not heard either
the new album or their third album, but I've not heard particularly
good things about either.

Im telling you all Green Day's American Idiot is really good, even if
you remotely like rock. Im kicking myself for not going to their show
in San Fransico :sad: .....now they are on their european tour.

Atm kaiser chiefs, biffy clyro (infinity land), senses fail (ep not lp)
and The Black Maria. The latter are by no means mind blowing but i
bought it on an impulse (based on listening to their single once) and
it turned out fairly decent considering (dont you just love buying an
album randomly that you end up really liking)

Im quite digging athelte at the moment. A lot like coldplay. I dunno if they've been mentioned but The Killers are brilliant.

The new Moby album ("Hotel") is pretty good, tho.

Dimebag was the guitarist, and was shot on stage while performing with
his "other" band Damage Plan. Phil Anselmo was the lead singer of
Pantera, who officially split up a couple years ago.

Yeah, but it makes sense considering Mark Lanegan is more or less a god amongst men.

In other news, lots of NIN stuff happening, all every exciting.
Listened to some bootlets of new tracks, and it all sounds very much
'With Teeth" so far.

Speaking of NIN, Johny Cash's cover of "hurt" is quite awsome. it's as if it was written just for him to sing. it's when he says, "and you can have it all... my empire of dirt", that it really tugs on your heart.

I just got the new Jack Johnson CD (yea, i'm from california), and it's also great. H'e classified as "surfer acoustic rock", and is very catchy. If you've never heard of him, "flake" and "sitting, waiting, wishing" would be a nice new listen.

Green Day's new album "American Idiot" is good, aside from the repsectively titled song, and the title itself. Really brings them back to the status that the "dookie" album had them at. "Jesus of Suburbia" or "St. Jimmy" woulda been much better titles..

I want to locate an 8 track tape version of Helen Reddy's "I am woman" on compact disc.

From First To Last, Trivium and Hondo Maclean for me at the moment. Got

If you haven't yet heard him, you need to listen to some Jamiroquai. He's this european guy that has a real Stevie Wonder meets Funky Acid Jazz feel. If you don't think he is worth listening to, find a copy of his song "Black Capricorn Day" and you'll be convinced this guy kicks total ass.

I never really liked him, although my dad has played his stuff for ages. I just recently got some $250 dollar speakers with insane bass and all his stuff got better :biggrin:

Honestly though, check him out. If you have seen Napolean Dynamite, when Napolean dances after Pedro's speech, the song he dances to is "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai.

Blaaaaaaa, listen to his stuff, it'll make ytou a better person.

Jamiroquai is definitely an acquired taste, and isn't my sort of thing, though some of his songs (like Virtual Insanity) are quite catchy, and the one he did for the Godzilla soundtrack has one hell of an opening to it.

Oh, and he's British... Just personal preference there, but I find the term 'European' so wrong. :wink:

Evanescence has been in my CD player lately. This trend is partially inspired by the Half-Life 2 music video with Breaking Benjamin's "So Cold". They are along the same genre, which is hard to pin-point. It's not metal, yet it's got more edge than the typical rock. Hard rock, maybe?

The Dears - No Cities Left - Pretty damn good, though "Lost in the Plot" is a real bitch to listen to due to the fact that it's got a great intro and outro, but the chorus in the middle is incredibly "eww." 4/5

I used to listen to a lot of that punk/whiney stuff senior year in
highschool, and now that its been more than a couple years, there are
only two bands from that era that I can still stand.

"Brand New" and "Taking Back Sunday". I prefer Brand New, but
they're both rather good if you like layered vocals, a little bit of
screaming (on some songs), some catchy guitar and what is essentially a
poppy/catchy beat (in both their freshman albums Brand New - Your
Favorite Weapon and Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends,
respectively).

Brand New's sophomore album, "Deja Entendu" is really good.
They've matured quite a bit in their sound, with some slower more
serious ballads. If their first CD was a highschool anthem, this
is the album is for Juniors and Seniors in college. I guess I
like it because I can relate. Anyway, worth checking out.
Particularly the songs "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" "The
Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot" "Guernica" "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory
Fades" and "Play Crack The Sky".

Taking Back Sunday's sophomore album "Where You Want to Be" is
alright. A few songs grow on you, but a few songs are just bad.

New Coldplay and Foo Fighters songs this week- life is good (there's even a mini-solo in the Foo song!!1). The new White Stripes and Weezer ones are pretty good, too.
