Why do the graphics look like s**t? I thought the game was better looking than that.

When you look at a model texture close-up, that's what it looks like (in any game).

The lighting engine of FarCry is more advanced than HL2's... so is the model rendering- in fact the whole engine is.

Once again, Myrk takes the opportunity to knock source  No offence
mate, but I'll bet you are throwing around these terms without knowing
that much about the underlying tech of either.

I still get BSOD's occasionally - the difference is that in XP when you
see a BSOD, it means that something is really f**ked up.

Can you spot the fishing guy to the right of the crosshair? You can snipe him from this distance. It sure feels good to hear the crisp crack of the sniper rifle and watch his head explode through the scope.
And honestly, I am really not that violent in real life.

yea it looks nice, but hl2 has that certain feel of depth to it, feels
more detailed, less smooth and perfect, rugged like real life.

Far Cry does have some amazing outdoor level graphics but it cant really match the storey or the gameplay of HL2. HL2 is just a great game except for the fact that my standards are now set extremely high. every game that i play i expect to match HL2 and it really pisses me off because i dont know if it is possible

what's more difficult than bryce? holy shat that prog sucked. Anyway, sandbox should be called "litterbox" only i wouldnt even let my cat poop on it.
that said, I think satchmo is a man of sound mind and judgement and I hereby TRUST his judgement on almost everything.
I liked farcry except the "waypoints" system licked geriatric balls. and the Trigens were teh sux, u gotta be good to kill them, it took me awhile to learn the technique.

Farcry seems like a nice game.
The outdoors interest me especially the trees and plants.
I have yet to see a game that has nice looking tropical trees and plants.
The AI is indeed much better because HL2 still uses nodes just like HL1.
Perhaps if Valve updated and got with the time then they could produce the ultimate game. Many of you know that HL2 is more like a movie and has more action than stealth.

No offense taken, I was just posting some beauty shots from the catacombs level. Far Cry definitely beat valve to the punch with this one, including the shader model 3.0 application, and I do have to agree about the AI, it is superior to Hl2, and the gameplay definitely had a more "open ended" feel to it.
However, in the end it was just too buggy, with support from Crytech being almost non-existent.(6 months between shady patches, and then a complete withdrawal from support after EA bought out Ubisoft). Half Life 2 wins hands down with its fullness of presentation, execution, immersive storyline, and environments. Far Cry was definitely no slouch though.

I stopped playgin far cry because i couldnt find any interest in
finding out the story, it was boring to play after 10-12 levels.

Did I miss something? I thought EA didn't managed to buy out
Ubisoft? On the other hand, I believe Crytech are making their
next game for EA.

I think it's the interplay of that beautiful skybox with the smooth-as-glass ocean.
The horizon on the right is picture perfect.

I was playing FC this morning, and I noticed a gameplay bug.
I just got out of the archive building (you know, the one with invisible Trigens), and I got rid of all the elite mercs with my trusty sniper rifle. I sneaked up to the helicopter, which has already started to rev up and I could see Crowe as the gunner on the helicopter.
When I shot at him, he didn't seem to suffer any damage. I lobbed a grenade at the helicopter, nothing happened. I finally walked up all the way in front of Crowe and shot him at point-blank range, and he just bled, but did not die. However, he didn't shoot back either. He just stood there, like a catatonic schizophrenic.
So I walked to the mounted machine gun and loaded up the helicopter with tons of bullets, and the helicopter is still unharmed. When I walked to the checkpoint at the gate of the warehouse, the helicopter finally exploded, and Crowe was left without a weapon. But I still could not kill him.
When I loaded up the level map, the helicopter was hovering above me already, spawned out of nowhere.
I can't believe Ubisoft let such a major bug go undetected in the final build of the game.
