Quote from this weeks Valve weekly update User posted image

We've been pretty quiet about Day of Defeat: Source in the last few weeks. But new information and images from DoD: Source will be made available starting next week, as we lead to its release. We've been steadily working away on this project, and we're excited to see what everyone thinks of what we've produced.
In the coming weeks we'll also be releasing a Source revived version of Half-Life 1: Deathmatch. People who already own Half-Life 1: Source will receive this as a free download

Finally! They should release DM source for free- then everyone will play that instead of crappy HL2DM.

So, this will be an add-on to HL1:Source rather than an HL2 modification, and won't be available to 'bronze' people? Oh wow that'll catch like wildfire.

I'm glad I bought silver!

I mean silver was like on $10 pounds more, gotta be pretty silly to buy it!

I'm just gonna deal with the idea that bronze is "silly" (assuming
that's what you mean). Not all of us are blessed with broadband. This
was kindly ignored by a certain company whose name begins with V, and
they released tap all with the boxed version. Subsequently, some of us
have the equivalent of the bronze package and no say in the matter.

Yes, we all could have wasted money on a game, or we can buy the bronze version and have a scabby company not give us the option to upgrade, and let them charge us even more for a game they already sold us.

As a HL2:Bronze owner, I am deeply offended that valve charge extra for
a game that was released 7 years ago and that most of us have played
atleast 2 or 3 times and know it by heart. Shame on valve for being so
money-grabbing.

AND I wonder If those people at valve are aware of what people think
about this. If they are and don't give a crap, then valve, as a
company, doesn't have a very bright future.

On the note of the whole Valve modding situation- is it against Steam/Valve to simply convert HLDM:Source to work for free on all PC's? Surely you could just release it under a different name, I mean your just modifying valve content which they allow right?

Yeah but if you release a game identical to theirs but with a different
name you will be breaking some software distribution laws (in other words you'll
become a software pirate since valve charge extra for the game you'll be distributing for free)
and risk going to jail (or atleast paying a handsome fine).

excluding huge amounts of people because they, for one reason or another, had to buy the 'shop' version sounds like a great business practice, as well as a surefire way of getting one of their fading games to retain as much popularity as possible. c**ts.

I don't understand why we even had to pay for HL Source. I saw no difference in the two games from screenshots.

That's because there weren't any! The only difference is that there were displacements and 3D skyboxes! That's it!

And ppatcher is a thingy-thingy which allows you to play ALL steam
games for FREE. If you have no games bought, you cannot play Online
though. But, if you have even Condition Zero bought, you can play all
of the HL1 engine games. Dunno about the HL2 games, though (online play
that is ofcourse). But if you have no games bought, you cannot play
anything in online since it gives you the "Steam ticked expired" error.

We have a HUGE forum (okay, that's in russia, but still  ) where all
such things are discussed. All this nonsteam and steam cracking
thingy... http://cs.rin.ru is the address.. it has a English link too,
for those who do not speak russian.

You didn't have to bloody pay for it - the option was there, you could
get it or not. The differences weren't stunning, but it was a good deal
for people who hadn't already played the game. Besides, it wasn't like
the $10 or whatever extra was solely for HL:S - you were also getting
DoD:S and the whole Valve back catalogue. People always expect
something for nothing. If you bought the bronze package, you bought HL2
and CS:S - why should you get all the extras that others are paying
more for?! Yes I can understand the plea of people who bought the
retail package since you didn't get a very great set of options
(collectors was overpriced and udnerwhelming, standard was really
limiting), but it was made pretty clear what was included in each
package, and you made your choice.

EDIT: Actually thats wrong Madedog - you also got better water, particle
effects and, I seem to recall, updated sound effects (for better or
worse  ).

ATTENTION: COMPANIES CHARGE MONEY FOR THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL YOU. THIS IS CLEARLY FRAUD. ALERT THE POLICE AND MEDIA - THIS IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY. I HAVE DECLARED MARTIAL LAW.

(In addition to what Reno added, HL1:S also included Ragdoll physics. I just wish they had released the source of the maps - that would have been good fun.)

Also, they redid a few(1) of the zen levels, and redid the ending...

Also, for that $10 more, you get: HL1:S, DoD:S, Back order catalog
(Hl1, OP4, TFC, CS, CS:CZ, CS:DS, DoD, Ricocet), and I belive any other
sorce ports of htere back order (with the possible exception of TFC:S
most likely being released with TF2)

seems like a good deal to me... $50+ worth of games for $10...
Signature? What signature!?

It's not as clear cut as saying it was clear which option people should have opted for. Some haven't got broadband so the Silver package wasn't feasible. Some haven't got big bucks to spend on the retail gold version (or wanted to pay nearly double for what was at the time only extra stuff like posters). Also people may not have actually known that DoD:S wouldn't be available to those who bought HL2 retail at a shop, or that HL1:S and HL1DM:S were even going to be created.

It's the lack of an upgrade option which is the problem now; if people now want to get HL1:S, DoD:S (when it is released) and so on, they have no option but to drop $60 on an entirely new Silver package. It's not that people expect something for nothing - I know I'd be happy to pay $10 for an upgrade to a Silver package - but that people are angry that there is now nothing they can do to upgrade.

In the grand scheme of things, HL DM was not all that popular the first time round, once CS and others came along. I dont see why it would be any different now.

It isnt all that big a loss if you dont get to have it.

Valve didn't rip anyone off. The only thing they did was shut a
number of people out (non-brodband who didn't have the extra money for
gold). Its tough but I dont think the silver deal would have been
a possiblity for retail, you would need tons of CDs for all the games
you get, plus what would valve do when new games came out? mail
them to you?

Yes, there needs to be a package upgrade but if you ask me, I would be
willing to pay another $60 for HL1, HL1:S, HL1:DM, HL1:DMS, DoD, DoD:S,
OF, TFC, TF2, CS, CZ, CS:S, DMclassic, and Ricochet...

If you got all those at retail price thats something like... $200?

Valve gives the community more than any other game developer.

They just cant do every thing for everyone, valve serves millions of
people, its not their fault if your situation makes it harder for
you. Send them an e-mail, then when they reply with "stfu noob we
dont care about you" get pisses, untill then dont get mad at them for
GIVING YOU ANOTHER FREE GAME.

The retail copies just came with the GCF files. And in all actuality all that mattered was the KEY.

HL2DM would have been so great if it hadn't had all of those annoying glitches.
