I hadn't noticed until a wee bit ago but the new Fall Out Boy album
finally arrived today. Just really good pop/punk/rock from an initial
listen through, but then I knew it would be going by their last
album...and from the fact I'd already downloaded the majority of this
one  Gotta love their long track titles too, such as "I've Got A Dark
Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth" and "A
Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me"" from their new
album, or "Sending Postcards From A Plane Crash "Wish You Were Here""
and "Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to do Today" from
their last one.

So yeah, if you like pop-punk but don't want half the crap that
Blink-182, Good Charlotte or Sum 41 churn out, then Fall Out Boy are
more than worth a look.

Those long titles reminds me of the long titles from "Brand New" one of my favorite bands.

There first album falls into the same pop/rock vein but their second album has some slower more serious music.

Here's a few titles... "Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't,"
"Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have To Do Is Die,"
"The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows," etc.

Check 'em out.

What's a good aussie - us currency conversion factor? Cause ten bucks isn't quite a bargain bin over here.

Well Cash, 10 bucks here is about 7-7.50 in the US, I believe.

I gotta say I can't listen to Audio Slave. I love RATM and SoundGarden,
but AS is just a bastardised mix of the two, and the music is way too
generic for any of the people in the band to be playing.

Just finished listening through the Gorillaz album Demon Days, and I
have to say I'm happy I bought it. If you like the Gorillaz I
think you'll like this album. If you like Fatboy Slim / RJD2 or
other types of electronic music I say give it a spin. It's
definitely not for everyone, but if you like the genre I think the
album is pretty good.

these four streaming

make me want the new Motion City Soundtrack album very

. Hugely upbeat and danceable pop rock with a bit of the
familiar synth in the background that fans of The Get Up Kids, The

universally likeable - I just don't see anything about this music that
people wouldn't like. If you like any sort of rock music, its

Yeah, their previous album was top-class so i'm looking forward to this one too. Also heard that 'Life Of Agony' are back together and have a new album so that should also be good.

Bought the new 'Audrey Horne' album yesterday and it's pretty damn amazing. A little bit 'Alice in Chains' inspired but i'll let them off as it's pulled off well.

Well I was down at the concorde 2 in brighton today and had some really
good local u16's bands from local schools, erm... Alicesgarden (they
won a national comp judged by paul macatrney and a guy who I think was
from coldplay or some other big band) and a good band called Sour Jane
who also rocked.

Is there a title possible for a band that says "We ripped off an already successful sound" more than "Alicesgarden"? Might as well start up a band called Pearl Temple Pilots.

Built to Spill - Keep It Like A Secret
Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On
Guided by Voices - Half-Smiles Of The Decomposed
Jack Johnson - Whatever his new one's called... can't remember :/
Quasi - R&B Transmogrification
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
Spoon - A Series Of Sneaks

I did have comments for all of these but then I realized they consisted of nothing more than "good stuff."

I can't get over how awesome the new Coldplay album is- to me, so far, it's perfect, nice selection of both beautiful and anthemic songs ('Til Kingdom Come' will be a sure-fire lady-winner on the old acoustic, and the moment 'Fix You' kicks in... oh my god!)

Hey i'm looking for a fairly old song but I sadly can't remember what it's called. The refrain is kinda like this

female voice I've seen you dance/ And i've never been the same again/for sure/i've seen you dance*

Does it sound familiar to you?

I just listened to some "Faith no More", after re-realising they did both "Epic" and "Easy" (Easy like sunday morning- yes, that song).

They are an amazing band- such a mix of music, from trip hop massive attack style to heavy metal- all kinds of genres in one. Try downloading "Album of the Year" (the album obviously!). Gives a good varied mix so you can hear what they are like.

I'm going to start attempting to write somewhat coherent reviews since I applied to one of my friend's music sites and need the practice. Enjoy.

Kaiser Chiefs - Employment: The simple fact that this CD was hyped and got good reviews made me think of all the crap Blink 182 pumps out that gets good reviews, and so I was ambivalent at best, cynical at worst. For some strange reason, however, I decided to be hopeful that this time they'd be right. After about 30 seconds, I realized that I loved "Everyday I Love You Less And Less" and so my expectations were inflated even more. Alas, they were crushed when I learned I wasn't a big fan of "I Predict A Riot" which is the Chiefs most popular song, and so I didn't hold out much hope that the rest would be good. Inevitably, I didn't think that it was... until I got to "Time Honoured Tradition" and loved it. And loved "Caroline, Yes." And at least liked "Team Mate." Armed with fresh hope, I trudged through the rest of the CD and realized that the reason I didn't like "I Predict A Riot" and indeed the CD in general was because my expectations were too high. After a healthy readjustment of my expectations, I can safely say that although it might not be exactly befitting of the hype/reviews, it's more befitting than most.

More NIN? No? Tough...

Got the remix album Things Falling Apart. IT's decent; a few great
ambient tracks and a brilliant dance version of Starf**kers Inc.
There's a remix of an unreleased track (bleh?), and a nice cover of
Gary Numan's "Metal". Not as harsh or as sonically f**ked up as
previous remix albums, but decent all the same.

True ... I think this album might outrun "A Rush Of Blood ..." in the charts.

I'm also looking forward to the new Radiohead album, which should be released this fall.

Other Good cd's recently listened:
  • Thievery Corporation - The Richest Man In Babylon
  • Thievery Corporation - The Mirror Conspiracy
  • Thievery Corporation - The Cosmic Game
I've really become a fan of these guys in the last months. You should
try it out, really. I always tought lounge music was easy and
repetitive, nothing special. Then I started listening to 'The Cosmic
Game' and a new world opened, really. I instantly got the two other
albums. Their music is so rich ... they've got influences from all over
the world, and the style varies from reggae to techno to oriental to
classic to dance. A real musical journey, as they say. Beatifully
mastered, too.
  • Doves - Lost Souls
    </li>
  • Daft Punk - Human After All
  • Gorillaz - Demon Days
Doves are top class, they don't like to be compared to colplay and radiohead, but if you like those, you'll love this.

Daft Punk is just acid french techno. You love it, or you don't. The
new Gorillaz album is still in my cd player. Haven't got a chance to
take a good listen, but I think it's pretty good if you like that style
of music.

Been listening to the new Foo Fighters album- CD1 is pretty boring, and despite rumours it isnt grunge death metal, its crap. CD2 is really interesting and chilled- its like normal foo fighters acoustic rock but with some other addition that I'm not sure what it is.

The new Spitalfield album "Stop Doing Bad Things" arrived today. Fairly
solid rock offering thats quite reminiscent of the more upbeat Foo
Fighters songs, though unfortunately the best tracks are probably the
ones I'd already heard ("Gold Dust vs. State of Illinois" and "Tampa
Bum Blues" stand out in my opinion). Then again, its fairly normal for
tracks you are familiar with to appear to be the best - I'll need to
give it a bit more listening to let the other tracks settle in. Most of
the songs feel quite different to those on their last album "Remember
Right Now"; for better or worse I've not yet decided.

Just got "Don't Believe the Truth" by Oasis. Not overly impressed I'm
afraid, and I reckon it suffered from the same syndrome as U2's "How to
Dismantle an Atmoic Bomb" - namely the
If-it-was-a-debut-it-would-be-a-good-album-syndrome. I expected better
from Oasis. Some tracks are great - Turn Up the Sun, Guess God Thinks
I'm Abel and Part of the Queue are all great tracks, but it seems like
the whole track is made up of the tracks of the sort of quality you
would expect from bonus tracks on an album.

There's this band called Porcupine Tree that's been getting a smidgen of play on the rock stations around here. I enjoy the lead single, "Shallow," and preliminary research efforts have shown them to be a band with a considerable history. Anyone here know anything about these guys?

Brendan Benson - Lapalco -> Pop -> Great
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic In The Attic -> Pop? -> Pretty good
Of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins -> Retro-pop -> Great
Radiohead - I Might Be Wrong -> Rock -> Great
The Starlight Mints - Built On Squares -> Pop? -> Pretty good

Andrew, isn't the MCS/MB20 split mostly made up of tracks from both the
bands' albums? I remember looking at it and deciding it wasn't really
worth it, even though both bands are pretty good. MB20 are a bit
repetitive in my opinion, but I am pretty keen on the Stories and
Alibis album. I think my favourites are probably "Lovers and Liars" and
"Playing for Keeps", but to me most of the tracks don't give you much
to pick and choose from.

Glad I reminded you of MCS, great band  Think I'm finally going to
order their new album today...damn not living in a town with an

I hate Green Day. I'm gonna go on a little rant here...

There are so many people that like bands like Green Day or Good
Charlotte or Simple Plan or any rap or hip-hop artist. It just
aggrivates me. If you watch/listen to them live, they suck hard,
and that means they aren't good musicians.

Green Day - the guy can barely play guitar when you hear them live

Good Charlotte - nobody can do anything in that band

Simple Plan - The lead singer can whine and that's about it

Any rap or hip-hop artist - Can't go on without 5 billion backup singers to hide the fact that they can't sing.

New music like this annoys me. People say stuff like "oh I'm so
gald I listen to real music like beyonce" or crap like that. I
wish people would finally figure out which bands are real musicians who
write their own stuff.

Anyways, got some Coldplay, they kick ass.

Not to be offensive, but just because you recently discovered Led
Zeppelin doesn't mean you have to go off on bands like Green Day or
even entire genres like Rap or Hip-hop.

I'm not a fan of any of the newer stuff from Green Day, but I love
Dookie, and to some extent Insomniac. I've never seen them in
concert, but I've heard good things about them. Regardless, a
poor show doesn't necessarily mean their music is terrible or that they
themselves are poor musicians. Listen to Dookie all the way
through and give some credit where credit is due.

I'm not going to defend Simple Plan, but there are a few songs from Good Charlotte that I like, such as "East Coast Anthem"

As for rap or hip-hop, that's an unbelievable generalization.
Sure -- there are some crap "artists" in the rap/hip hop vein, but
that's true with EVERY genre of music. If you think that rap and
hip-hop artists are no-talent hacks, then listen to some Tupac, Biggie,
Nas, Mos Def, and even Jay-Z. Those are only the big names of the
genre, but they're big for a reason. They all have some
incredible songs.

That video is the single worst music video ever. It's so god-damned
overblown; Green Day have really lost the bloody plot. When you make a
music video, please, for the love of GOD, don't try to turn it into a
mini-epic teenage soap opera (a BAD one at that). The album is good,
but Green Day's new found overbloated ego is unbareable.

Bashing people for their taste in music is a pretty piss poor thing to
do, regardless of your own musical tastes. Go ahead and bash music
because you don't like it, but don't go throwing your opinion around
like it was gospel unless you're Jesus f**king Christ himself. Which I
doubt.

I'm just saying that bands like Good Charlotte, and pretty much every
rap and hip-hop artist is not a real musician. I'm not saying I'm
throwing my opinion around like it's gospel. It's my opinion and
I feel very strongly about it.

"

I didn't formulate this opinion because I recently discovered
Zeppelin. I've always thought this while I was brought up
listening to real music like a lot of jazz and beatles. Music by
real musicians who were talented and could write their own music and
play their own instruments.

I cannot appreciate any rap or hip-hop or stuff from bands like the
ones I said because I can't say "wow that's a good song of theirs" when
they can't perform it or didn't write it or don't sing it. That's
another reason I don't like rap. I would always listen to someone
who has vocal abilities who can sing amazingly as opposed to a rapper
who talks fast and rhymes biatch with biatch.

Because of these reasons, I started listening to older stuff like
Zeppelin and AC/DC and the Doors and Jimi Hendrix. All of whom
are real musicians. If you asked them to improvise, they'd be
able to do it. Take Led Zeppelin, they hardly ever played their
songs the same way twice because they were real musicians who could
improvise because they new their instruments inside and out, as opposed
to Good Charlotte who got famous saying crap like "Girls don't like
boys girls like cars and money"

I have no respect for rappers, hip-hop artists, or new "rock" bands. I'm sorry if you disagree but that is my opinion.

i was drunk and blind at the time please ignore the rather over the top remark that it "kills me" lol, it is rather average.

On the other issue, I used to be all into "real musicians" who write
their own music etc etc. Would buy NME, get into all "credible" indie
bands but it actually made me narrow minded to other music. Yes I will
always have respect and a preference for those bands who do it their
own way but to rule out music because of what the artist may or may not
have done, or because its a certain genre means you will miss out on
some decent stuff. Just my thoughts anyways

That isn't what I'm arguing about; I could care less what you thought
about these bands. but to say "
New music like this annoys me. People say stuff like "oh I'm so
gald I listen to real music like beyonce" or crap like that. I
wish people would finally figure out which bands are real musicians who
write their own stuff" is damned annoying (especially when half the
bands you attack actually do write their own music and actually do play
their own instruments). You act like every band that formed past 1985
doesn't write it's own music.

Errr, Green Day and Good Charlotte do write their own songs. And don't
base opinions on one or two singles you might have heard - Good
Charlotte do have some decent tracks (unlike their admittedly s**tty
singles), and Green Day have written more songs than you could shake a
stick at and are actually pretty good live (I've seen them a couple of
times, both good shows). I'm not saying they're ultra-talented with
their instruments or write hugely technical and demanding music, but
they aren't "fake musicians" by any stretch of the imagination. There
isn't a "musician" exam - if you play music and write music, surely
thats what makes you a musician.

if you play music and write music
It is, a band no matter how heard of or unheard of who writes their own
music should be congradulated (as long as it's half decent). Oh and
please keep that matter for another thread, do not trash it by going
off topic, this is about commenting on a song or band you have seen
live, not wether they write their own music or you opionion on that
matter.

Anyway matter aside I've been listening to Best Of You by the Foo
Fighters, I haven't heard the rest of their album but this song rocks.
