I suppose, if you call "bad guys stole ancient artifact, villager goes to big city to get it back" a plot. I mean, some other interesting things happen in-between, but plot is not the reason to watch the movie... the stunts are.

[edit] I definitely agree about the legs-on-fire thing though (-:

Oh yeah, another great movie recently watched - The Blues Brothers. Awesome...

Anyone else a big fan of The Blues Brothers? And I am referring to the origional movie, not the awful remake.

Wasn't Blues Brothers 2K a sequel as opposed to a remake? I haven't
seen it so couldn't tell you, but it seemed like that to me when I saw
trailers. Also looked s**t, so I guess its of little importance
Blues Brothers itself is absolutely awesome though, and a film that I
had almost forgotten about. Gonna have to have a hunt through my videos
to find it for a good old return viewing

Blues Brohters 2K is a sequel, you're right ReNo. Actually I really enjoyed it. It got the typical Blues Brothers elements like The Blues Mobile (old police car) and all the totally overdone car wrecking and smashing. The plot is like: Let's put the band back together.... Okay. It's very much the same; but everything is different, also. There are a few more Blues Brothers for example.
Well in the end: I enjoyed it. My suggestion: Watch it and see for your self.

Yeh Schindler's list is good I haven't seen that film in years I had to watch it for one of my lessens think it was english (carn't remember how it tied in to english but I can remember my english teacher being there when I was watching it) or could have beeen history.

I've been watching Sugar Rush latly good show especialy cos of Kim.

Just finished watching the Truman Show about half a hour ago not seen it before wanted to for years but when ever I went to rent a film I saw that then something else I realy wated to watch so I never got round to it. But now I have and I can see why people were telling me its a good film cos it is. I Kinda wanted to see him go out into the real world and not have it end when he walks through the door but still a good ending non the less.

and now I'm about to watch King Arthur not seen it in a while. Plus it has Keira Knightly in it with not much on.

As for Lost carnt say as it appeals to me that well but I could end up liking it in in the 2nd series. Like I did with the Sopranos never really liked the first series but I got into it in about the third I think. I've done that with a couple of other tv shows aswell.

Ignoring cheesy lines, they are at least doing a few things to try and
address all the prior complaints about it not relating to the game. I
mean, people bitched it had nothing in common, but going by it now it
seems to have plenty. FPS-o-cam, ultra-comparable sets, and some sort
of focus on the actual weapons (always important in an FPS). Whether or not
they have gone overboard is another matter.

Anyone else endure 'House of the Dead'? Uwe Boll decided it would be a
good idea to splice scenes from the video game into action scenes in
the movie. A video game that's at least four years old at that... ugh.

I'm going movie-watching crazy here thanks to my brother's loaded laptop...

Constantine: Pretty decent flick, I always like the heaven/hell battles
and this one adds explosions and touches of creepiness so hurray.

Family Guy: hahaha, 'nuff said.

The Evil Dead: I don't really see how this one's supposed to be
comically bad... it was probably the bloodiest movie I've ever seen,
quite creepy/disturbing, AND it gave me nightmares... I like it.
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

Army of Darkness falls under comically bad... but then again I don't
think it takes itself seriously so maybe its just a comedy

I never saw Evil Dead, only Army of Darkness, and I liked it.

I think he means he saw "The Evil Dead" the first movie. Evil Dead 2 is when they start trying to being moronic. However, come on ... you can't honestly tell me that the part with that one girl getting screwed by the tree was "scary".

I like Evil Dead 2 the most though. Even though Army of Darkness is awesome.

Oh, I watched Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. If you liked Oldboy ... you'll like this movie. It has a lot of the same undertones, but it's a completely different movie. The beginning is a little slow, but it all builds up tremendously and, in my opinion, doesn't crap out at the climax.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin: In a few words: Not that funny.
DEFINATELY not for kids. There seriously weren't very many funny
scenes at all. Pretty much the whole movie is people saying vile and
seriously disgusting things to get a laugh. It's not bad if you
don't mind zero comedy and lots of swearing. Wouldn't suggest it if you
are looking for a smart comedy.

Starved: Episodes 1-3 (TV show): Again...same thing....really not that
funny (with the exception of a few parts) and mainly disturbing how
unlikeable any of the main characters are. However, this is a
good show, just too depressing to be labeled a "comedy". Good FX show.

The Wedding Date: Generic chick flick....really nothing special. Just love triangle bulls**t.

Red Eye: Short (75 minutes) movie that is marketed wrong. I
thought it was supposed to be a horror movie....it has no horror at
all. It is basically an action movie without twists....avoid this one.

Wedding Crashers: Pretty good if not predictable comedy. Owen and
Vaughn make a great cinematic team. Plenty of jokes and good
lookin' women. Definately worth a rent when it comes out on DVD.

I agree with that wedding crashers synopsis - good fun, though highly
predictable. The fact it had Isla Fisher (the redhead from Home and
Away) scores it significant plus points. The scene near the start where
they crash loads of weddings drags on too long, but through the rest of
the film the pacing is pretty spot on for a comedy like this. The first
scene where they are mediating a divorce settlement shows great
partnetship between the leads. Good fun movie - watch it wth friends.

Always meant to watch Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, particularly after
watching Old Boy, so if it at all lives up to the brilliance of Old Boy
I'll no doubt enjoy it

Steer clear of The 40-Year-Old Virgin then.....

and.....the only thing
redeemable about The 40-Year-Old Virgin is Steve Carell.....in his
first big "reel" debut as a lead he delivered. He was the only likeable character
in the whole movie.....and he acted out his scenes believably. Another case of a decent actor stuck in a s**tty script.

It's not as "good", but you'll have that same turning feeling in your stomach by the end

Even as similar as the two movies are: they're very different. "Vengeance" is definitely slower moving. Also, it focuses on more characters, so, maybe that'd seem "detracting". I guess, something you could keep in mind is that Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was made before Oldboy. I think the main difference is that, in "Vengeance", there's no clear protagonist to "embrace" in for the "journey". With that being said, I just want to make it clear: don't expect to see Oldboy again. Blah, you already know that though, don't you?

I plan on seeing "The Brothers Grimm" on Monday. I expect it to be good, it's made by Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)... and what did they do to Heath Ledger? He looks cool all of a sudden. The only other thing out I'd like to see right now is "Broken Flowers".
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Did you notice the unusually light Rodriguez DVD?

They're releasing another version before Christmas which will be loaded. It wont have the theatrical cut though. But, all the "books" will be cut together (A Dame to Kill For, That Yellow Bastard, and The Fat Kill) all the stuff taken out will be back in. They're basically become panel for panel the books ... which is pretty out there, because the movie already resembles the books so much.

I saw "2046" this weekend. It's an obscure Chinese film set in Hong Kong in the 1960's. It's very stylish, and this director (Kar Wai Wong) supposedly made Quentin Tarantino cry because his film was so beautiful.

There isn't so much of a story to speak of, but the film focuses on moods. Each of the main characters is being haunted by memories, and no one is able to move forward because they are so scarred by their past.

If you're into art house flicks, you might like it. The usual American audience should pass.

Saw two movies last night:

2001: A Space Odyssey (a certain
member here got me wondern): Veeeeery good movie. The last 25 minutes
(Jupiter & the Infinite Beyond) or so were amazing. Can't believe I
went this long without seeing it. For those of you under a rock, it is
about a guy who goes on a mission in space to Jupiter. Stanley Kubrick
is awesome.

Mulholland Dr.: Another amzing movie....I think I bashed David Lynch
before....but now I must take it back....this movie is a masterpiece.
The only way to describe it is a mystery/thriller. So many cool
characters and scenes...

Satchmo, couldn't quite decide whether or not you liked 2046, but if
you DID, then check out the prequel "In the Mood for Love". I
personally preferred it. It doesn't have any of the surreal elements
from 2046 and is more of a "by the books" romance story, but it is
again a very stylish film and very well acted.

Wow, I am surprised that a fellow Pit member saw "2046" also.

Mappers never cease to amaze me.

I did enjoy "2046". Greatly, in fact. My brother really liked "In the Mood for Love", so I am going to rent it in the near future.

I like the juxtaposition of the gritty 1960 Hong Kong and the cold, futuristic cityscape in "2046".

"The Constant Gardener" with Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz is a
political drama and a love story. The plot is based on a novel by
John Le Carre, a story that expertly interweaves the conspiracy and the
intimate relationship between a quiet diplomat and a vivacious activist.

The film excels at all levels, combining talents in direction (the
director of "City of God"), cinematography, editing, and not the least,
acting. The story is involving, and it has the feel of an epic,
but without the banality of a typical Hollywood epic production.
I rank it as the best movie I have seen this year.

Now, before you dismiss me as being a hyperbole, I can say the movie is
in par with past greats, such as "Black Hawk Down" and "The English
Patient". Its portrayal of the gritty and corrupt world of Africa
juxtapose with the refined but equally evil hypocrisy of the developed
countries.

One thing the film could have been better is in regards to
innovation. It's a traditional film produced with no
ground-breaking features, but it's a masterpiece nevertheless.

Three thumbs up.

Brothers Grimm was alright. Nothing buy worthy, but a good sit-down movie. Some of the fairy tale adaptations in it were a bit too obvious, but most were done really well.

I've watched A Nightmare On Elm Steet 4 and 5 (started watching 6 last night but fell asleep  ).

God damn they ruined Freddy more than no 2 did! It's interesting how
they are draining the Freddy character more and more, trying to squeeze
everything out of this franchise by turning Freddy into a comedian.

I always stop the movie when it gets towards the end, just because the overall story heirarchy is pretty average. The beginning is really the best part of the movie. Reason why I bought it, anyway.

You'd probably like Clerks as well. Even if it isn't written, directed, or acted well. Still very funny for the reflection on those actual positions.

Clerks cartoon is still the best though. So great. Not written by Kevin Smith ... which makes it better!

Anyway, I heard Mike Judge was working on some new projects (including another Beavis and Butt-Head movie) ....

I hate Beavis and Butthead so much. It came out when i was in Elementary school and people were quoting it and doing that dumb laugh so much that I hated it before I even saw it! (we were poor and couldnt afford cable/MTV.)

So naturally, I've always just disliked it. It's kinda like "git 'er done" I hear that about 50 times a day, because I live in Redneckshire, Missouri and everyone thinks that is just the funniest thing ever. I hate it.
I tried sniffing coke, but the ice cubes kept getting stuck in my nose.

Doesn't bother me either way. Larry the cable guy is very annoying though and I don't see what's so funny about that catch phrase.

Anyway, I know that's something he's working on ... I thought he was working on some other stuff too ... which is what I was inquiring about.

Last I heard on Mike Judge moviewise was he had a movie in production about an average intelligence guy who travels to the future to find that everyone else is dumb as bricks. Luke Wilson is that average guy.

I just watched Kung Fu Hustle again... friggin hilarious in a really odd way.

THen I watched Crash, the one that just recently came out. It's
all about racism and such in L.A., and I have tosay that it's one of
the best (well written, acted) movies that I've seen in quite
some time. I suggest you watch it, it's very interesting and well
thought out.

Except
the entire series of movies ended ten years ago. Just wait until you
get to "New Nightmare" and "Freddy vs. Jason" ... God, so
terrible.
New Nightmare from what i've heard is supposedly quite good. I've seen Freddy Vs Jason, and it was pretty crap.

P.S no.6 sucked aswell.....

My copy of Night of the Living Dead was delivered yesturday and
although it's 40 years old it's suprisingly good, some of the
camerawork reminds me of The Evil Dead, maybe that's where Raimi got
his inspiration.

You've heard wrong.

I saw two Sci-Fi movies tonight: "Alien Apocalypse" and "The Man with the Screaming Brain", both are 'Campbell' movies.

Alien Apocalypse was, for all intensive purposed, hilarious. It's a garbage Sci-Fi movie with NO plot and Bruce Campbell, so it was great. And giant crickets. The movie is only funny because of Campbell's dialog, which could only come from "The Bruce", as he's been dubbed.

The Man with the Screaming Brain was interesting, quite funny, much better then I expected and was told. Written, Directed, and Staring Campbell. It's very close to "the man with two brains" in concept, but executed very differently.

If you want to waste some time and like Bruce Campbell, I suggest both. If you want to see Portland in ruins see Alien Apocalypse ... or if you want to see human saw mill slaves ... It actually has one underlying tone that's interesting, in which the largest oppressive force for the human race are other humans. But, that's very mild. It's mostly, "Let's squash some bugs" and Bruce Campbell passing off as a Doctor ... who worked for NASA.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Just watched 'the rundown'.

It got great action. A very nice DOP. Incredibly nice CG and stuff.

The only thing I totally didn't appreciate was the fact that Beck only wins the final fight by using guns.
Of course; he handles everthing lika a pro. But I liked the idea of a main character not using a gun. Well.

The character of Travis was really annoying, the first half of the movie. And Chrisopher Walken was very sweet, as usual.

By the way: The music is fine.

I found Bad Santa funny. Lots of swearing though. Clerks is good too.
Reckless disregard for childrens well being, women and nothing but utter contempt for other cultures.

Just watched an old Hitchc**k film "Shadow of a Doubt" for class
Tuesday night. I thought it was good. A lot of memorable
characters, and some very tense moments. More interesting than
the average classic film.

Edit: Gotta love the profanity filter!

Hitchc**k

Anyway, I saw "Million dollar baby". In my opinion, the best Eastwood movie to date.

EDIT: apparently the color glitch was addressed.

I've been a fan of Hitchcock's movies for quite some time, since I first saw Hitchcock's Psycho. I now have 2 Hitchcock movies on DVD, Hitchcock's The Birds and Hitchcock's Rear Window. Hitchcock is a brilliant director.

My wife and I watched "A Room with a View" last night. It was my
third or fourth viewing, but it was her first. It's one of my
favorite movies, and it ranks number one on my ex-roommate's film list.

The first time I watched it, I was still in college. I watched it
on a tiny little TV with my roommates. It's just one of those
college dorm experience that's priceless.

Ever since then, we peppered our conversation with dialogues from the
movie, like "I do declare we're lost" or "Do you know that proverb?"

My wife wasn't part of my old gang, and much of this enthusiasm for the
movie didn't rub off on her. I was nevertheless giddy when I
watched it again.

However, the version we saw was the unrated version, with full frontal male nudity. That aroused my wife at least.
