How on earth does having shortcuts on your desktop eat up your CPU? It may take a little while to initally load all of the icons, but outside of that, I can't really see this being true, andrei.
You're right, not much of anything to do with the Processor. It "eats" ram. Just because it's on your desktop, which is something Windows continuously refreshes. Not a big deal, having an actual background "eats" more.

I hope that Constatine doesn't blow like a lot of people are saying it will (not critics, mind you). I think it looks bad ass though, this may be what happens when Warner Brothers lets go of creative control to the actual film makers.

[edit]
My desktop

Everything's really small because I run at 1600 x 1200 and I shrunk it down to 800 x 600. No, that isn't the default blue, it's more vibrant.

If you're wondering what icons are in my tray: BT++, Yahoo, Mozilla, AIM, Norton, and InterVideo Manager

Nothing special, obviously.

Myrk: I used to do a lot of work with VC++. Haven't used it much recently, but yes. I know how to.

TwoKnives: You won't believe how much fun that game is (if you like the sport).

omegaslayer: I don't remember. It's a digitalblasphemy image, but I found it on some other site.

yeah, i suppose.

most people have desktop themes created by someone they don't even know. somehow that removes the "personal" aspect of a desktop IMO. people have been personalizing them since their inception, yet, they things they put on them are not personal at all.

It's probably a webpage... You can make webpages backgrounds, I remember I once had my favourites embedded into my background, and also a countdown clock which I made.

If you were really cunning you could put drop menus and java apps in the background, or even videos... One thing I look forward to is animated backgrounds, things like waterfalls and stuff...

I once tried to create a website background with several (framed) pages
that would allow me to quickly open programs. Too bad you can't open
programs from a website (or at least I don't know how to do that)...

And animated backgrounds... I thought that was fun at first, but those
movements became quite annoying, and they slowed down my comp too...

Could be a different shell like Aston. I tried Aston once and that had
tonnes of ways to change your desktop. Other than that... please tell

As far as I can remember that didn't work very smooth. Then again, it's
quite some time ago I tried that... Mhh, perhaps I'll give it another
go... perhaps.
