I just loaded up CS:S to take a look at it; holy crap! Maybe I'm just easily impressed these days, but the attention to
detail is insane, and the framerate is great. I couldn't find
anything to complain about. I don't mean to sound like a fanboy
(because I'm not, I don't like/play CS!) but I think this remake is
probably the best one so far.

Well, actually, there is something to complain about - inside the
warehouse there are window silhouette overlays on the catwalk, and they
don't look correct at all.

Yeah I almost feel bad that I hate the game, when such good looking maps are released back to back, and DM is left high and dry!

But yes the map is highly detailed. CS:S has come along way.

looks stunning, so annoyed though, thats the sorta setting i wanted for
the outdoor section of cs_bulletheory but i didnt think any of the
textures were suitable enuff (im assuming a lot of the buildings are
using new textures?)

When it comes to mapping architecture and end results.. There is no comparison. Generally speaking.

It pains me to see how CS get's all the attention while HL2DM hasn't
received a substantial update in ages now. Especially considering the
fact that CS isn't half as bugged as HL2DM is. If there is a game in
need of frequent updates, its DM.

I'd settle for two things fixed in HLDM.

1) The hitbox placed accurately.
2) All the weapons made available.

But as to architecture.. Its the mappers/players fault we have so few maps of note. When you consider that the killbox is #1 in most played map, it says a lot about the mindset.

Can you imagine the same attention to detail in a Cs game? "Alright.. move out".. From where? You'd be in a box.

Every time I see someone peddling a killbox I wanna strangle them..

The best things in life, aren't things.

I said HL1DM: Source. Its the new HL1 deathmatch remake that valve are working on, not the original version of HL1 Source. They are meant to be remaking alot of the original maps, and the same weapon set and such, which I'm glad about

What bugs me about the new assault is that the layout seems even worse than the original's.

And I haven't heard much about HL1:DM. Will it be made available to
bronze (and retail -edit) ppl aswell or do we have to picket in front of the Valve offices
until they give it to us for free like they should ?

Only available to those who bought online ;-/

As for the map, I thought it looked good, but its all icing really, the map has nothing in it to do apart from kill the other people. I think they should have done something with the crane really.

Andrei - why should the people who bought the bronze package get it
free? Its part of HL:S, which the bronze package doesn't include.
Should people who paid less just get everything that others
purposefully paid more to recieve? As I said before, I sympathise for
those who bought the retail version due to their lack of options, but
those who bought the bronze package online have no argument to be
honest. There SHOULD be the option for people who bought ANY package to
upgrade however, or purchase any of the games included in other
packages seperately over Steam.

I think they should have made it more clear. It said nowhere on the package of the bronze series that I couldn't get free updates. Also there should be an upgrade option. And reno, you can buy the other games seperately, but I'm not forking out ?10 or so for every mod Valve the scabs release.

What do you mean by free updates? You DO get free updates for the games
you bought, you DON'T get the games you didn't buy for free. And you
DON'T have to fork out ?10 for every mod that Valve release - just the
ones you want to buy - how else would you rather they did it? If you
wanted DoD:S and HL:S, you could have got silver or gold instead of
bronze, so you can't begrudge them charging bronze owners extra to get
them when that was the whole idea behind offereing different packages.
Again, I'm not talking about retail owners, but the people who bought
the bronze package.

<span style="color: lightblue;">I just think it's unfair for
us retail owners (because yes, I own the retail pack, but feel even
more sorry for those with bronze like my brother) to get punished with
HL2DM which valve don't seem to
give a rat's a$$ anyway while you ppl get a nice new shiny mod in the
near future which will most likely guarantee that HL2DM will get even
more niglected than it already is. If someone bothered themselves to
make a decent mod out of HL2DM, so that we can all be happy, I wouldn't
care at all about HL1DM but Valve really don't seem to give any
importance to
the poorer people who got retail (don't imagine i've bought the retail
pack because I was
a cheapskate).

That's funny, I feel it sucks even harder than the original. I dunno,
if it weren't for the title I would have never figured out that's
cs_assault. It feels much tighter. Assault was an open map and that's
what made it "special".

I bought retail because my internet was crap, and I couldn't exactly download the whole game on crap net, woulda taken weeks! I think there should be an option for retail owners like me to upgrade to Silver or whatever. I think its disgusting what Valve are doing with the whole situation, and a massive lack of information. If I'm not mistaken they got sued because they didn't state clearly enough on the packaging that you needed an internet connection to be able to play the game.

But heres a question to UK people- how much did you pay for the silver package?

I bought retail because I couldn't afford any of the other packages,
though even if I had the money atm, I'm not sure I would have bought silver
anyway mainly because of the price difference and the fact that I
had already played and finished HL1 about 5 times, so HL:S was, in my
opinion, a waste of my money. Nowhere did it mention that we wouldn't
have access to upcoming mods with the retail pack; I have the box right under my very eyes as we speak  .

I don't like the new cs_assault. It may be a beauty or very detailed.
But CS:S is not a single player game, so they cannot make 'heavy' maps
when it's supposed to run smoothly. It doesn't. It's laggy when you are
playing with 20 players, i don't like that, i prefer an empty and
playable map than an 'excessive' one. We all can't afford high-top
graphics card... I play CSS almost every day and from all the official
maps, this is the worst i think.

If anybody cares i have an Ati 9800 pro card.

The 9800 pro is still a good card. I don't think it's obsolet yet,
because i can play almost any game at med-high quality so well, and
that's enough for me. But when you play on-line, the more people, the
more laggy it comes, don't know exactly why, but i assume that the
server's computer has much to do with it as the client computer do. I
mean cpu power.

All the official maps run extremely well on my computer with max
settings (even de_inferno) except for cs_assault. I mean -- I
guess it's nice that they are pushing the visuals... but it's still not
fun to have to tone down graphic settings to get a map to run as well
as the other official ones.

As for the map itself, it definitely took some getting used to.
Something about the 3D sky box and visible but unaccessible areas made
me keep trying to run away from the wearhouse after spawning CT
side. I kept heading into dead end alley's because I felt like
that's how the map flowed. After a couple of rounds I got used to
it though.

I liked the new railroad overpass thing.

I didn't mind the shadow overlays.

The detail makes it harder for me to scan the insides as an assaulting
CT, making it even harder to attack. One of the things about the
old assault was that if a group of you rushed front door you could do
well... but now I find it hard to pick out the T's quickly during a
front door rush, which... leads me to die often.

There's so much stuff I'm not used to seeing yet I guess.

I'm sure my opinions will change with time.

I can't be the only one to have realized that eye-level in HL and CS used to be mid-chest. Your eyes are in your head now, I have no problem with this.

I know about that, I mean they actually look like midgets (or dwarves, or little people, or whatever the PC term is). Their limbs are too short for the rest of their bodies.

The new models look like they've all been neglecting their training, or the various elite para-military groups are relaxing their recruitment standards. Everyone look shorter and significantly chubbier, almost like they are assembled from barrel shapes of various sizes. Also the new terrorist model seems really low on detail, but that might just be me.

highly detailed map but i hate its gameplay. also the new models suck. they are too small and just look unnatural. its a good addition that they put their weapon down to waist when running but alot of the times it looks really bad like when a player has a sniper rifle or an aug
they should update the css model so his legs are so far apart.

My favorite changes are the bomb planting animations and the new
bolt-slide animations on the awp. Makes it look really nice.
