King
Kong Trailer
. It looks pretty good, however Jack Black
seems a little mis-cast. Any thoughts?

By the way, it is a pretty big video, so it may take awhile to load. Sit tight, it's good.

You're not gonna insinuate that this is your first time are'ya?

I grew up on all the el'cheapo Kong flicks throughout my life.. I am not a kong fan by any stretch but, this one looks the best of the lot.

So yeah, I think its gonna kick ass.. BTW, what makes you think that an island that can grow a 50 foot monkey, cannot also retain some dino's?

Stop over-analyzing it and accept it for what its attempting.

Besides the fact that there were many dinosaurs in the original King Kong, right?

It looks good, and after LOTR and The Frighteners I trust Jackson's abilities. Not to metion, I like Adrian Brody. Good actor.

Well, where did this monkey come from? Why wasn't it killed by the dinosaurs? What makes this island so special to keep dinosaurs? The giant monkey I just accepted as being some strange occurance, but dinosaurs?

Cumon Orph, I know its King Kong, but Dinosaurs? Jack Black? I see the makings of a new Independance day esque film of crapness. You can't win me over with good SFX alone!

Yeah, why don't you look at the crew. That's a good list of actors, the only one that's really questionable is Jack Black, and I'm sure he'll fit in once in context.

Actually, I'm a big fan of Jack black. He's a total moron, but does it with a certain style - love Tenacious D. Naiomi Watts and Adrian Brody are very good drama actors, and I think will do well to balance out Jack Black's schtick. With Jacksons reputation and resources, do you think he would mis-cast a role with Jack Black? More likely, he's perfect for this 'entrepreneur, film maker' role. This movie looks like a fun flick. I don't expect anything more.

Yeah, I do think Jack Black is in a good role. Even from the trailer, I got a good vibe off him.

Completely random trivia: The guy who did a lot of Kong's facial features and animation is a former Raven employee. Woo!

I like Jack Black, I have a lot of respect for Peter Jackson.
While I can't see this being a huge awesome incredible ground breaking
film with no plot holes full of realism, I think it'll be fun to watch.

It means people will watch it first, then never again. If they do its to laugh at the moment where Jack Black gets killed by the T-Rex, or when Kongs smashing the city, rather than because its a good film.

I think he was cast for a comedy element, I think it is taking a bit of
risk (marmite factor, love it or hate it). But I think it could work.

The definition of fun can't be measured on a rigid scale. The people who play those maps may squeeze the same amount of enjoyment from them as you do with your choice of entertainment. Who cares. Sometimes I wan't depth, sometimes I want simple, yet forgettable, entertainment.

I have gotten over 300k out of a 56k modem before. It turns out that if you have a file partially downloaded, and its resumable that it will often appear to connect at a higher rate than possible.

Resumable downloads do not have to "SAY" that they are so, so you may not even be aware you have one.

Internet connections are strictly monitored, its highly unlikely that you had any connection that much over your peak limit.

Course, I have been wrong way to often to be taken as a guru on the subject.

I'm fairly sure that Steam measures its download speeds in bits, not
bytes, as Myrk was wondering. So if steam says its downloading at
8mb/s, its likely just 1 megabyte per second (a byte is 8 bits,
therefore a 8 megabits = 1 megabyte). As I've nothing to download on
steam just now I can't test that, but I seem recall noticing it before.

ReNo is correct on the bits/bytes thing, but 15megabits per second is
still damn fast. What speed connection are you on French Toast?

Oh yeah, the film - I don't think I'd be able to take Jack Black
seriously, he has and always will be a comedian to me. Film looks like
it'll be fun to watch so long as I keep telling myself not to think
