Firefox all the way for me. Dedicated search bar (with a range of
plugins to search different things), clever URL entry bar that doesn't
need full addresses ("snarkpit" gets you here), tabbed browsing (which
I used constantly), better security, seems to load websites quicker
(due to loading up the content before you images/sounds/etc... I
believe). Those are all the reasons I need to keep using it over IE

Might wanna add a dedicated option for Opera, which a fair few folk seem to use.

I once almost felt like crying because my friend didn't have a scroll
wheel on their mouse, and I had downloaded Fire Fox just for the
occasion because I just can't stand IE.

I wonder why Microsoft hasn't just adopted Firefox as their default
browser on their OS's. That'd be nice to see in the future, instead
having to open IE and download it (unless your a geek and keep it on a
usb drive  ). I think that Microsoft created IE, and that's why they
refuse to have Firefox as their default browser.

Anywho, Firefox is just better in general for the following (quoted) reasons
+ Can be optimized for broadband

+ Faster page rendering

+ Quality Extensions and Themes

+ Overall security: No ActiveX, Javascript & Java control, pop-up blocker

+ Live Bookmarks (= RSS-feeds)

FF all the way. Even Maddox says to change your s**tty browse to firefox

But still, I like the themes of it a lot, and the fact that it loads faster and is in every conceivable way much better than IE.

On the Opera topic; I used to use it, but there is too much
s**t. Half your screen is quick launchy type icons, and crap like
that.

I use Internet Explorer.

Because I have ALWAYS used it and it's what i know. I used FF there for a while, but windows defaults all point to IE and I use about 20 different computers a day.

I've never had a Virus or Spyware on my machine. So IE has been just fine for me.

Sadly this is vaguely true. Courtesy of ActiveX which by the way, is a
major source of problems and security flaws. Seems you can't have it
both ways. I use the "open in IE" extension for Firefox, so if anything
does come along I can just open up an IE window for that site. Having
said that, Firefox conforms to the web standards for browsing, whilst
IE doesn't, so it's probably a bad thing for any internet site to be IE
only. Also, why should an internet site be able to dictate which
browser I use and how I browse the web?

Just a thought.

Microsoft Internet Explorer, because it works (okay, maybe it's a stupid reason). Mozilla Firefox is awesome but there are just too many sites that just won't load.

I'm guessing the reason IE works is because it's based on Mosaic by NCSA, in the same way MS-DOS is based on PC-DOS by IBM. As we all know, whenever Microsoft creates an original product it never works.

Give me a link to one site that doesn't work in your FF and I'm sure there's a way you can fix it. I've NEVER ran across a site that "just didn't load" in Mozilla or FireFox.

Morphine, fileplanet works fine in Mozilla, try the site again.

There's not much to interpreting code. All the stuff that people say "doesn't work" are things that are Microsoft only ... it'd be the same as saying, "I drive GM vehicles because they're the only ones that support OnStar" (which I'm not sure is entirely true, it's just an example) ... the point is: so? Who the hell needs OnStar, as in: you'd be in great peril and unable to use the vehicle without it.

It's kind of the same with browsers. The features IE supports that nothing else supports are candy. Colored scroll bar, for example.

Use what you like, just everyone shut up about saying which is better. From a software, security, and dynamic ability, when it comes down to it: mozilla wins. If you like IE because of the interface, fine.

I just hate it when people argue this ridiculous subject as a matter of pride. They're quantifiable applications. One is better.

Of course, this doesn't even mention any of the other 1.5 trillion browsers out there.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

That's odd. Try again. It seems to be fine for me. I don't use their
download manager and it seems they have a back-up system for people on
other browsers (could be javascript or something like that, or just a
clone of their old system). A lot of websites have started to do this,
and quite frankly I really don't think they should. It's like buying a
car where they say "You use unleaded petrol, but only when it's from
Shell garages and not Texaco or any other company".

Most of the problems with websites in Firefox are these
  • Wrong lay-out (due to faulty/unofficial CSS or HTML)
  • Functions not working because you need sloppy ActiveX
For the people who want to use firefox, but also want everything to work immediately, I can suggest this extension:

http://ieview.mozdev.org/

It adds a right click-option in firefox called "Open in IE". No time lost

http://ieview.mozdev.org/screenshots/linkshot.png

You can even define sites that should ?lways be opened in IE.

/me smashes the argument.

Snarkpit didn't work with firefox for 3 days. Lep had to code loads of wierd stuff because firefox has a wierd incapability to do frames and boarders- for some reason it likes to resize them all in crazy ways. Also the forum didn't work.

Sure firefox probably has no errors ever and loads pages 0.03 seconds quicker or some crap, but to be honest I can't be bothered to deal with the hassle. All the features of Firefox are in IE7 anyway.

Interesting you should mention IE7. I looked at this a bit, but if you
look a little closely, not only is IE7 trying to play catch-up to
another browser, but there are several bits missing (I think it
doesn't have extensions in the same easy manner as firefox, but I could
be wrong). Also, it's interesting to note some of the campaigning which
has been done for IE7. They claimed that adding search engines to the
search bar was very simple, and something you couldn't do in Firefox,
which is just plain wrong.

/looks at list of twenty search engines for search box

Certain FF functions I couldn't do without - mostly extensions.
Scrapbook, All-in-one sidebar, Mouse gestures, FoxyTunes etc. IE7 may
have tabbed browsing, but I wouldn't be surprised if when it's released
(which is a fair way away), I stick with FF.

I've also found that using FF helps a little with web coding. If it
doesn't work in FF, there's been a problem on my part, not FF's. I'm
not saying "Lep must be a lousy coder" or anything like that - far from
it, I wish I could code a site like the SnarkPit, but when IE is
setting the standards on its own instead of the normal ones which are
supposed to allow all browsers to access a site, things may well go
wrong.

Anyway, as usual, just IMHO.

I have been basically 100% dedicated to IE, its that simple. I however have almost always been on broadband. Years ago I had 56k, and had a browser that only loaded text but cannot recall its name. Does anyone suggest a browser that still does this? For many sites, the pictures are an annoyance I can live without now that I am once more on 56k.

For the record, I am not really crazy about browsers who claim speed but only cache pictures. If the picture was cached, it probably doesn't need to be seen at all again.

But FF has some bugs, e.g.: If you have 2 tabs open, you cant copy and
paste data from tab 1 to tab 2...one stupid major problem here..

Interesting. Seems to work for me (I'm assuming you mean in forms etc). Which version are you using? It all works fine in 1.0.7

Hmmm... The Ctrl C and Ctrl V works fine for me, including when I use
the "copy" function from the right-click menu. There doesn't appear to
be a paste function in the right-click menu though. Is that what you're
missing? Other than that, the only things I can suggest are the
Mozillazine forums and Bugzilla. I think they're concentrating on 1.5
rather than bug fixes at the moment though.

Mozilla, Netscape, and Firefox are the same browsers (at heart).

Myrk, I said now. There is a difference between Mozilla and Firefox, taking that Firefox didn't become non-beta-mozilla until last year. (Just like about three years ago is when Mozilla became non-beta-netscape ... maybe four or five years, actually)

Underdog, I'm not sure about IE, it can probably be done, but I know in Mozilla/Firefox/Netscape that you CAN turn images off ... completley. That'd solve your problem, for sure.

I'm sure browsers now have an image size limit. Like you could say "don't download any image that's over 50K" or something like that. Not sure though.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Back in 98/99 images were not as big a concern cause people seemed to understand 56k. I can honestly claim that even i forgot about them over the years since I have gotten DSL. Perhaps this is payback for not championing the lesser connections amongst us I don't know. I have not actually gotten used to 56k again, but I cry a bit less at night now. I still have my DSL modem sitting here beside me. I look at it fondly from time to time.

Purgatory, what a suck ass concept.

Thanks Crono. I will look into FF or Mozilla.

Mozilla is also the name of a browser they released. Netscape 7 up is based on that.

Windows, FireFox and Mozilla are NOT the same browser. They have the same core ... just like Netscape, but they have a different ... shell, I guess you could call it.

As I said before it went like this:

Netscape (FULL) -> Mozilla (Beta-Netscape) -> Mozilla (FULL) -> FireFox (Beta-Mozilla) -> FireFox (FULL) -> Netscape (Mozilla-Base).

They aren't the same though. There are an ass load of features in mozilla that aren't in firefox. Yes, I use them.
