I can't stand U2, either. I don't like Metallica much either, but No Leaf Clover's a great song.

Hmm bought Inme - White Butterfly and At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operational.

WB is certainly better than their 1st album, 2 or 3 songs are proper
sing(shout?) along stuff. They playing at at festival in my town next
month so that shud be good.

This Station is interesting. ATDI are supposed to have this big cult
following, and though this anthology gives glimpses of brilliance, I
cant really see what they had that what was gonna make them "the next
big thing".

Bands like Mettalica, medadeath or bloody slipknot just make me want to
kill everything. I mean they could at least attempt to make a half
decent guitar

riff, or get that sore throat looked at. To make a good rock band you
have to be your work has to be your own. These kinds of people try to
follow guidlines so to speak and stick to set way of playing, theres
just no effort.

Slipknot definitely sucks the big one, Metallica can do some decent
riffery, and I actually like a few Megadeth songs. And none of those
have really harsh vocals, either... Dimmu Borgir, that's harsh vocals.

Slipknot, for the most part, do indeed suck the big one. But they
occasionally strike a chord with me. Believe it or not, they can
actually craft a decent song that isn't just mindless gut-screeching
(not that there's anything wrong with that sometimes, heh...).
Their latest album is actually one of the best albums I heard last
year; it has an honesty to it that their other albums lacked (where
they seemed to just put a lot of it on for the hell of it), and to say
Slipknot are simply rubbish riffs hastily drawn together over
sore-throat vocals shows that you havent' listened to Vol. 3. Here's a
few of my favourites I quite like to listen to:

Eyeless

Tattered and Torn

Me Inside

Prosthetics

Prelude 3.0

Circle

Vermillion

Pulse of the Maggots

Vermillion Part 2

The Virus of Life

Danger -- Keep Away

Their first 2 albums are still the definitive pop soundtrack to complete and utter f**king chaos, IMO.

Vol3 was one of my fav albums of 2004 imo, a totally matured up sound
from their previous efforts, which were basically just straight up
pummelling of the ear drums (certainly no bad thing  ).

These are the ones that I've downloaded AND listened to... since I still have 3 that I haven't listened to... the joys of DSL.

Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn: I'm one of those freaks who
listens to a a band and decides he doesn't like them, then listens to
them a few months later and it's "omg <33" ... good CD.

Bright Eyes - Fevers & Mirrors: Another good CD. Also, it has the best fake interview EVER

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning: Probably my favorite album
so far this year, and I got it... two days ago? I'd say I'd have to
listen to it more if I hadn't listened to like 5 times.

Guru - Streetsoul: Supposedly acid jazz, it's really not all that
jazzy, though. More of a slow rap... I still really like it outside of
some of his featured artists (Macy Gray... blech).

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia: I still haven't listened to this whole
CD, but initial estimates say it's pretty good... I don't like it as
much as Stupid Dream, but whatever.

The Decemberists - The Tain: The best 18.5 minute song I've ever heard...
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

Fear Factory -- Transgression

A lot more focus on melody this time around; though it does feel a
little flat in places. I seem to have an unmastered studio rip however,
so I guess I shouldn't be forming any real opinion at this point. Some
stand out tracks: Supernova and I Will Follow (both of which actually
reminded me of lostprophets, though a more apt comparison would be Dog
Day Sunrise), Echo of my Scream (great ambient track in the middle of
the album), 540,000 Degrees Farenheit (Obsolete-era FF), and Moment of
Impact (just pure FF, though an odd choice for closer).

Hrmm, got a lot of CDs to spam this time around... and Bright Eyes is my "band of the month" whatever that means.

Billy Talent - Billy Talent: Technically speaking, I shouldn't like
this CD since it's all "punk rawky LOLL!!1" but I really like the
vocals.

Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn: Blah blah not their best
CD. Got some good tunes and all but none of the super-great tunes that
you can find on their other CDs.

Bright Eyes - Fevers & Mirrors: Very sweet lyrics/vocals/acoustic guitaring, in that order.

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning: Still pretty damn sweet.

Bright Eyes - Letting Off The Happiness: Another good CD.

Bright Eyes - Lifted Or The Story Is In the Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground: Another good CD except for the first track.

Commander Venus - The Uneventful Vacation: Old-school Bright Eyes, slightly louder and with worse recording.

Silver Jews - American Water: Another good CD! I dig the monotone vocals a lot. (my reviews suck)

The Delgados - Universal Audio: Pretty good CD, at first I could only
get into the first track but now I like most of them... it just took me
like a week, which sucked.

Marilyn Manson I cannot stand. Its not his music or what he looks like, its what hes all about- hes the biggest hypocrite ever!

As for Metallica, I like thier music alot, but I hate the people- very big headed and arrogant, but they steal music, so thats not cool.

Megadeth are legendary- his voice is what makes the band I find. Alot of the music has a very dark tone to it which his voice perfectly symbolises.

Music in general- I think alot of it is lazy. Music should be made with the lyrics and everything in mind. Think about Megadeth- Train of Consequences. If you don't have it, download it. The title is reflected in all the riffs- the guitars all sound like a steam engine, the drums are the chugging, its just well thought out, like music should be. Alot of bands just right music and stick lyrics on top.

Now Slipknot are prone to this to the extreme, but as much as you may not like it, the core band (the singer, guitarists and main drummer) are some of the most talented musicians in the world, just thier song writing sucks a bit!

Dimmu Borgir are just show offs. For anyone who doesn't know what they sound like- imagine everybody in the band playing as fast as they can. Done. The drummer is the fastest speed metal drummer in the world, capable of double bassing (hitting the 2 bass drums with his 2 feet alternately) over 800 times a minute (thats over 13 times a second). I respect thier skill, but yeesh, thier songs are evil and get a bit samey.

Finally, Mercyful fate- great band, they sorta pre existed Metallica etc, but are still around today. King Diamond may ring a bell (hes the singer). Although again, they are very evil- I turned the song "9" (a very twisted song about heaven and hell) backwards, which I assume your meant to do (the song constantly goes on about "being 9", which if you turn upside down makes a 6, and they say it 3 times...), and it turned out that it was a wierd devil worshipping song. Creepy eh?

Oooh, anyone has Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven, turn that backwards- he sings about how he loves satan

<div style="text-align: left;">First about Manson. I don't
particularly like most of his music. I like stuff like "The
beautiful people", but on the whole I don't like his stuff.
However, I can respect him, he's a very intelligent guy.
Oooh, anyone has Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven, turn that backwards- he sings about how he loves satan
Yeeeeaaaahhh. I think what happened is that you really badly want
to hear something so you forcfe yourself to. I don't buy it, it's
all a load of crap. Zep was to stoned and drunk all the time to
do something like that.

But whatever you want to believe in...

I don't believe Zepplin did it, but I do believe Mercyful Fate do it...

As for Manson, he is intelligent, but hes still a massive hypocrite. He constantly goes on about rising against the governments and not paying taxes... I don't see him not paying taxes, and he sure as hell isn't do much of a revolution- so far his army consists of a load of teenagers who like to slit thier wrists! I just think hes a loser tbh- hes made alot of money, and hes a good con artists, but grrrrrrrrrr.....

Not really. He's a fantastic guitarist, but ... his school taught music and song writing skills are so freakin' average. It's just that, when you listen to his music, you can tell there's really nothing of him in the songs, but just what he's been taught.

I've met several musicians who agree. Not that that should sway your opinion.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Jeordie White's hardly been doing bad for himself since though. He's been involved in both A Perfect Circle and nine inch nails, while laying down guest guitars on a slew of records. All the better for him, in my opinion.

He didn't get rid of him, Jeordie quit (on the grounds of "creative
differences" but they are reportedly still good friends). And Manson
just got another
guitarist instead, he didn't proclaim himself as the new one.

I bought the Fall Out Boy album From Under the Cork Tree a few minutes
ago on iTunes and even though I've only listened to the first 5 songs
or so... it seems really good for the genre its in.

I can't remember if ReNo recommended this album, but if not...check it out ReNo!

If you can only check out one track... check out Sugar, We're Going
Down. That's the song that made me want to buy the album.

I couldn't get Common - Go! out of my head so I bought his album "Be"
yesterday and it's really good. Kanye West said Common is the
Marvin Gaye of rap and I think that's an apt description.

It's really good feel good mellow rap. I'd recommend it to anyone
who likes rap or hip hop but is sick of all the gangster mafioso
diamonds and guns obsessed crap that gets put out these days.

I'm more into industrial... listening to a lot of Panzer AG lately. This track is great:

LINKZ0R

RAR file, password is "snark"

Reminds me a lot of the trailer for QUAKE IV... you'll see what I mean right at the opening quote (from day of the dead i think)...

If you don't know industrial... it is dark electronic dance music. Usually a harsh, alienated tone and sometimes a good bit of 'noise' so to speak. NIN is sort of "pop" industrial.. fun, but nothing compared to the real stuff.

I agree-gree

Also, Ben folds' new stuff is good. Landed and Jesusland on his CD Songs for Silverman</div></div>
I agree-gree, though I think the CD's got more good songs than just those two. Bastard + Gracie + Late = awesome.

I've grown addicted to a few songs by Gorillaz. Man, they've got some sweet lyrics.

Like Feel Good Inc, or 19-2000.

Cool, Jimmy Eat World did a Heatmiser cover for their EP... they didn't get the title right, but they didn't f**k up the song as much as I expected them to so props... "Half Right," they call it.
