Symphony X is a band I've recently come across- insane guitar arpegios with some really good tapping and neo classical styles. Good band if your a guitarist.

The "FFVII - Advent Children" OST is a pretty damn good listen,
particularly for those who are a fan of Nobou Uematsu's work. Great
remixes of some Final Fantasy favourites as well as some good new
tracks. Also reminds you of all the badass bits from the movie without
actually sitting down to watch it again  Can't imagine its easy to
get a hold of through legitimate channels for the time being though,
what with the film only being out in Japan and all

The "FFVII - Advent Children" OST is a pretty damn good listen...
I hunted down the piano version of the fight music during the church
sequence of the movie. It's called "Those Who Fight" for those
interested. At first I thought its placement was kind of awkward in the
movie, but then after watching it again, I feel the piano music fits
the fight scene well. Anyway, it's my favorite song from the entire
OST.

Dunno if you noticed (it sounds really different after all), but it's a
piano remix of the standard FFVII battle music of the same name. Try
searching for the midi or something from the game and you'll spot the
similarities  There is another remix in the movie of the same track
thats more of a techno/rock version, that plays during Reno and Rude's
fight against Loz and Yazoo, but I prefer the piano one you mention.

Yeah, I noticed, that's actually why I like it so much. How the heck
did he convert it to piano so well?! I'm tempted to import sheet music
for it, to see how it was done. There's just so much going on, it
almost sounds like several pianos playing at the same time - you agree?

EDIT: I have the rock / techno version, but yeah, I don't like it as
much. I hear "hardcore" instrumental stuff like that all the time, it
doesn't seem as special as the piano version.

Just got the new Coheed & Cambria album which is awesome. Been playing it non-stop in my car. Also got the new HIM album, which is OK but not as immediate as their previous one. Hopefully it will grow on me.

Reno, just noticed that 311 have slipped out a new one - have you heard it at all yet? I'll probably buy it anyway, but wouldn't hurt to have some feedback first

Bullet For My Valentine - The Poison. If you like modern metal this is
ace imo, it gives Trivium a run for their money  I really like how it
starts with a relatively layed back opening instrumental then the 2nd
track opens to Matt screaming his guts out.
Hello there.

They had the whole thing up to listen to on purevolume (or something
like that) for a week, but personally I wasn't too impressed.
Definately less rocky than usual, and less rappy, so more of the whole
chilled out samba/reggae style mixings. Enjoyable, and I'll buy it
sometime (always out of stock at play.com, grrr), but I'm not in a huge
rush. I've no doubt it will grow on me once I get it - they always do

Meh, got some CDs at the library

Death In Vegas - The Contino Sessions: Started off good, went to crap prertty quickly.

Mary Lou Lord - Baby Blues: Good folksy-country stuff.

The Apples in Stereo - The Velocity Of Sound: Eww, just eww.

Vic Chesnutt - Drunk: He has to have some of the craziest non-crazy lyrics I've ever heard.

Zwan - Mary Star Of The Sea (I think is right...) : Billy Corgan and some love songs, strange combination but I like it.
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

Well, I've been listening a lot to "Don't Tread on Me" by 311, and I
really like it. I'm digging the chilled out style of this one, and
there is a whole lot of ska influence that is going down well with me
 The only real rock song on the album is "It's Getting OK Now", which
I absolutely adore for some reason. What makes it particularly odd that
I like it so much, is that its sung entirely by SA Martinez, who is
normally their annoying (but loveably) rap guy. He should stick to the
singing if you ask me

I mentioned picking up the new Fall Out Boy album a few pages back, but
I just wanted to put in a plug for it. I've been listening to it
over and over. It's really short for an album, maybe 30 minutes
total (maybe less?) but its good if you like the poppy alternative
stuff.

Aside from the single "Sugar We're Going Down" ... I'd recommend checking out "XO". It's really good.

I've been listening to Deltron 3030 recently, but they only have one
album I know of. Its underground hip-hop, and theres nothing about
killin/robbin fools or slappin hoes, and no cash money money. Its
actually like nothing else I've heard, Del The Funkee Homosapien
basically tells stories of the group's experiences in the year 3030 as
the sole survivors of earth. Slick beats, cool samples, and good
lyrics. Its not the kind of stuff I usually listen to though. I usually
listen to Led Zeppelin, Blind Melon, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

I got it off amazon.ca a few weeks ago. In true Japanese -> English
fasion there are a few typographical errors in the disc listing though.

As for recent music, I saw Judas Priest live the other week and my ears
were ringing for 2 days straight after. Played some great classics as
well as some new ones. (Hellrider, Revolution, Worth Fighting For,
Painkiller, You Got Another Thing Coming, Hell Bent for Leather,
Diamonds and Rust) to name a few.

Anyone know where I can order the limited edition version of Rammstein's Rosenrot and have it shipped to Canada?

Herzeleid.com says Rosenrot is based off tracks created for Reise, Reise, so it would've taken very little time.

This album, I liked Benzin, Rosenrot and Wo Bist Du a lot. Te Quiero
Puta and Stirb Nicht Vor Mir suck. The rest are moderately interesting.

Blutengel - The Oxidising Angel: German goth/techno stuff, this is hardly their best CD since I've noticed the main singer (for this band and Terminal Choice) tends to have about 5 original songs on his CDs, then 5-7 remixes of songs he's already done! Oh, what people do these days for money. But yeah, the original songs are good, I don't bother with remixes in general 'cause they're basically the same.

Jack Off Jill - Clear Hearts Grey Flowers: Umm, gothish/rockish stuff, very melodic singing... when little Ms. Singer wants to sing. Sometimes she likes to scream (but melodically). I had some of the songs from this CD back in my youth (I.E. 2-3 years ago) and thought "gosh, let's go for some nostalgia!" So I did, and mostly it's turned out well.

Nada Surf - High/Low - Friggin' awesome mellowish rockish CD, just friggin' awesome, get it now. Please?

Nada Surf - Let Go - A pretty good CD of the mellowish rockish variety, probably my least favorite overall by them, but still much better than the "industrially produced poop" as Mr. Ervin would say.

Travis - 12 Memories: Well, tracks 1-5 are good/decent, and for me, that's like "Oh my god, don't bother with the rest of the CD." But then 6 was really friggin' awesome, and the rest were... better than 1-5! Excellent deal. Mellowish rockish again, though this time they join up with Scottish.
One day you'll know what you're talking about, I can hardly imagine

I'm halfway through Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights and I have to say it's pretty good. I really like "Obstacle 1." Check that song out if you can.

Just added Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, and Presence to my
growing Zeppelin collection. I gave 'em all a listen, and they're
all good, but Physical Graffiti is especially awesome.

w00t! 3 albums to go...

As my avatar may suggest, I'm listening to The Impossibles again. I
actually found a CD in much better condition than the one I mentioned
in the sense-association thread. It skips a lot less, only on two or
three tracks. I've ripped them to WAVs and found some tracks with
errors so I got Exact Audio
Copy
and am going to re-rip them with error correction then
encode them all to 192kbps ogg

<3 ogg

Bah! EAC isn't working, all the WAVs it produces are silent
