Next year I have to take an programming internship. My expectation was to get some sort of database-managing or designing job, or perhaps some other tool creation.

But through a teacher I got contact with some guys from Grendel Games, a small game-dev studio here in the Netherlands. Together with another student I had a talk with their lead programmer, and we could mail them and they would see if they could give us some sort of project.
Nice thing is, just after that talk, I met some artist guys who had started a company, Triangle Studios, just one year ago. They needed an additional programmer, for Nintendo DS and mobile games. So if I couldn't get to work with Grendel Games, I could always give them a try.

Doing an all-round job in a smaller team sounds much better to me than some high-tech shader coding, so I mailed Triangle Studios the same day and got a talk the next week. Just today I heard I got the internship, plus some extra work during summer holiday.

In other words, me is happy.

Yeah, Badass man. When you get out of school that is going to look very good on your resume. Work experience through an internship and the resulting professional references will be extremely helpful to you when it comes to finding a job.

Yeah, I'm really happy the way this went. It's almost as if it's been thrown at me.

And having one or two games under your belt always sounds good (feels like a dream really). I hope it turns out to be good in reality too.

Funny thing is, those 6 years of mapping are quite usefull for game programming. You get a much better insight in various area's, it works mutually. I also hope it helps me to understand the artists I'm going to work together with.

Take it slow, and explain "Internship"

Is it anything like "Journeyman"

I am happy for you, but would like to know why I am happy.

As far as I know, an intern is someone who works at a job part-time as part of school to sample real-work experience or somethin rather. If that's it, then it's called co-op sometimes too.

But I could be totally making this all up.

In the US, an internship can be paid or unpaid, and its usually a really awesome opportunity. As a rising college senior, I know too well how competative it can be for sophomores, juniors, and seniors to secure internships at the companies of choice, and oftentimes if the internship goes smoothly the intern can find himself transitioning into a full-time job with the same company, or in the very least leave with some valid experience and a few contacts in the business.

For example, one of the professors I've become closest to at my college is a film professor. I always performed well for him, and recently when I went to talk to him about internships he offered to get me a job as an intern in NYC for one of his close friends, who is one of the directors of Law and Order. He said, depending on how I performed, I would be given tasks ranging from grabbing coffee to sitting in on the writer's meetings and listening and absorbing. I'd basically be given whatever task the director felt like delegating.

Grats for getting your foot in the door Capn!

Still sounds like a Journeymen.

Assuming that I am even spelling the word correctly.

Bob Cratchet was Journeyman to Ebenezer Scrouge.

Nice job, man.

My sister is transitioning to a company in Chicago, Moser.
Where'd she get the rcommendation? An internship.

Definitely one of the better things you can do at college.

I'll surely tell what games I played part in. I don't know yet if it's going to be a Nintendo DS or a mobile phone game(s), we'll see about that.
