I think that the new batman was only considered good because the film series had gone to s**t and this was the first decent batman movie in ages.

As for Superman Returns, if it gets good reviews I'll go watch it.

Just watched Syriana. It's got a good premise, about the corruption of the oil industry. Unfortunately, the way it's written, it's really confusing and hard to follow and you get a bit disinterested in what's going on. I wouldn't recommend seeing it.

Desperate for English language entertainment, I watched Sleepless for Seattle last night. It was funny in a few parts, but overall pretty s**tty.

It tried too hard to be a classic love story by ripping off Clark Gable and the bygone era, and that pissed me off.

On Friday I watched Ice Age 2 (entertaining), and rewatched V for Vendetta (Liked it just as much as the first time).

I watched Mission Impossible 3 last night, but unfortunately it was a s**tty pirated DVD my Chinese roommate has. Sound cut off, sound quality was bad, image quality was bad (which sucks since the movie is a visual bonanza), and at one point some guy stood up in the theater and blocked the shot.

Yet, I watched the whole thing since it was the 4th of July last night and I was feeling all patriotic and therefore in true American fashion I wanted to watch s**t explode.

Anyway -- I enjoyed it (despite the shortfalls of piracy) and I think my favorite part was watching Hoffman be a villain. Pretty sweet.

If you liked the last 2, I don't see how you could be disappointed by this one, which was actually kinda smart with the twists.

I'm looking forward to watching Serenity, The Red Violin, and Jet Li's last movie: Fearless. I've already seen Serenity (and like it), but I think I'll watch it tonight with a buddy since he hasn't.

Disclaimer: Piracy is bad, don't do it, and gwil please don't delete my post.

I saw it yesterday, its pretty good. Its closely linked to the first one, it wouldve helped to see it again beforehand. Despite this, good movie, all the action is done pretty well (which is good, since thats what the movie is about). It would be great to watch all 3 in a row one day (there will be a third, I hope...)

wil5on, there will be a 3rd. They shot parts of it (if not all of it) at the same time as the 2nd.

Source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/

Today I watched Jet Li's final movie, Fearless.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446059/

Unfortunately there were no subtitles and I could only understand a few lines of dialogue. Luckily, I could still understand all of the main plot points (and none of the subtleties of language unfortunately) and enjoy all the action.

I thought the storyline was pretty good, going for a moral tale type deal. I wasn't completely satisfied by the ending, but I'll need to watch it again when it comes out in the US so I can read the English subtitles.

Also watched Serenity last night. Was just as good as the first time.

I watched the Red Violin yesterday. With Samuel L. Jackson, that guy from Trainspotting (I think?) and yeah... it wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either.

A friend of mine here really likes the movie, and so we watched it, but while he really loved the story, I felt like the movie was too slow and, well, boring. I can appreciate human dramas, but period pieces that hop all over don't really do it for me.

Just finished watching the complete set of Firefly episodes on DVD, and
I have to say I hate Fox even more than I thought was humanly possible.
It's probably the best sci-fi television series of recent years and the
world will be a sader place without it. Awesome characters, great
stories and Joss Whedon's usual panache make it a must see,
particularly if you enjoyed the movie continuation Serenity.

This brings me to something that has been happening more and more on
television and is really, really pissing me off. Television stations
no longer give shows a fair go, if they don't rate instantly then they
are considered unworthy and instantly discarded. The problem is they
rarely show the series in the correct order, making people feel
alienated because they don't get the story or the characters, so they
then stop watching. So many excellent shows of all sorts get canned
every day, and are replaced with cheap-to-make reality television
rubbish or another CSI clone.

In Australia its even worse because shows that aren't considered worthy
in the US aren't shown, or we get all the latest fad bulls**t from the
US, rubbish reality or celebrity based shows. Commercial television
stations here won't show or produce any Australian shows because its
cheaper for them to buy crap from America, rather than making an
investment here.

God bless ABC and SBS (in Australia), who show original, quality programming from Australia and the world.

/end bitter rant.

I agree. I also agree with the countries that put restrictions on the percentage of TV that can be imported. I mean... honestly how much can people in Africa benefit from watching reruns of Dallas? Where is the cultural worth? It's like American cultural imperaliasm / hegemony.

Unfortunately, it takes money to produce quality TV shows in country, and for certain nations it's just not feasible. They have to fill up airtime somehow...

Bah. I watched a documentary about a guy in Zimbabwe who was pouring his heart and soul into making a show about family problems in his native country, and the whole time stretching out his meager budget the best he could... meanwhile Kodak thinks Zimbabwe is a great place to film there next advert and flies in a bajillion people with a bajillion dollars to shoot some crumby commerical for their newest film stock. In this documentary, the Zimbabwean director nearly cries when he talks about not losing hope in the face of such drastic inequity. It made me hate myself really.

I watched Hide and Seek last night.

It was pretty tense in moments, and I liked the ending. One of the alternate endings was really good as well.

I wouldn't watch it again (its all about the twists), but it was better than the usual scary movie. I'm sick of how scary movies nowadays resort to gross-out tactics rather than scary ideas, but luckily Hide and Seek had more tension than actual violence. Unfortunately, it did do the trite young creepy kid.

I watched The Proposition last night. It's a western set in Australia starring Guy Pierce (guy from Memento and LA Confidential).

It garnered critical acclaim, but it didn't strike me as an amazing movie. I liked that it was different, it was a fresh take on the western genre. Guy Pierce also has an undeniable on-screen presence, and there were a few good characters and moments, and some truly amazing scenery in the movie, but overall... didn't touch me or move me quite as much as I had hoped it would/could.

I'd go see it if you love westerns, otherwise... probably not worth it.

Saw About Schmidt today. Jack Nicholson is always a blast to watch but ultimately I missed a true climax or at least some more humorous elements. Usually American movies are great with this kind of tragicomical stories but here it dragged a bit. Nicholson alone makes it worth watching, though. The way he makes you hate his daughter's fiance just with his facial expressions is hilarious.

Just watched LA Confidential with some friends for the third (maybe fourth?) time, and it's definitely one of my top 3 movies of all time.

Great, great flick. Almost every scene is awesome and entertaining in its own way, and Russel Crowe is a f**king beast in this movie, its awesome.

Go rent it if you haven't seen it yet.

... I wish, instead of making a movie, Square had made another game in the FF7 universe. That way, instead of watching a lackluster CG movie for 1.5 hours, I could have spent 100+ hours playing a game in one of the best video game worlds evar. sigh...

They did make other games in the FFVII universe - Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, and the upcoming Crisis Core. Sadly, it seems that Advent Children is the best thing out of the "compilation" as they call it. But then hey, I really like Advent Children, despite its flaws, so I guess I'm lucky

I watched Clerks 2 - which reminded me of Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, except with more sex and cursing. Surprisingly good, though it's kind of the same Kevin Smith stuff.

Also watched My Super Ex-Girlfriend against my better judgment. One review posed the premise as this: "If Superman was a girl, would any man want to be Lois Lane?" Which sounds interesting enough until you actually watch the movie. Most of the jokes fell flat (there's some really bad timing) and Owen Wilson's character is purposely written to be boring and average. Oh well. At least Uma Thurman is hot.

Watched Hostel yesterday, it was pretty cool for what it was I guess. I'm glad they kept the boobies and gore seperate. While I'm a fan of boobies and a fan of gore, IMO they don't mix well. Dunno what else to say about this movie... I wouldn't recommend it to my mother...

It's a good movie if someone getting their achilles tendons slashed and told they're free to go is something you'd like to see  I thought it was neat when he tried to stand up and it went to a quick shot of his ankles.

EDIT: Instant replay worthy!

Uma Thurman is hot - not in a conventional way I would say, oh god no - it's more about the sense of power and confidence she conveys in her roles (sometimes). Well, at least I think that's somewhat attractive.

Uma Thurman is hot.

Picked up both of the Azumi films recently, though have only watched the first of the two. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a film about a group of assassins, raised from their childhood to take out key warlords and bring peace to the unruly Japan. Starts out seeming like a really low budget movie with some pretty camp acting and poor choreography, but the film evolves as it goes on and the budget seems to ramp up along with the overall quality. It's not a masterpiece by any means, and the story is really pretty shallow and straightforward, but it has some neat characters and good fight scenes (after the rather confusing and pretty much laughable intro fight). Worth watching for people who like swordplay movies or Japanese films in general.

I thought she was kinda hot in Kill Bill 2, when she was sharing that tender moment in the bedroom with her loved one, just because at the same time that she was being tender and vulnerable she was still a badass killing machine. That was kind of attractive. But in general, I don't find her as stunning or beautiful as other girls. Memorable yes, hot.... not really. In my opinion anyway.

I watched TransAmerica last night. Its about a guy who's getting a sex change, and then discovers he/she is he father of a 17 year old kid in jail. It's a really weird kinda dark comedy. Good fun if you like the kind of humour that's not punch lines, but just the manneurisms are roflable.

Donnie Darko.

Make a sci-fi movie or some mystery s**t. But don't mix it like it's one and the same. I like the movie for it's thrilling atmosphere in some scenes but I found it rather annyoing when watching it recently.

reaper47, I never understood why everyone I know does backflips everytime I mention that movie. Like you, I wasn't that impressed.

Swayze was fun to watch in his little role, and Sparkle Motion and the classroom scenes were amusing as well, but overall the sci-fi elements of the story seemed like a bad high school essay.

It has a giant teddy bear, a giant slug that eats smaller slugs, talking robots, and sword fighting.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Yeah but star wars picked the sci-fi vein and went balls to the wall with it... where as donnie darko teeters between "sci-fi and some mystery s**t"

Same reason I didn't really like "Undead," it didn't commit itself enough to comedy (Shaun of the Dead), or zombie action / stylized gun combat.

Like the saying goes, jack of all trades, master of s**tty movie making.

What's so bad about using time travel to convey a personal story? I'm not seeing why it isn't a good movie. It was never meant to be "science fiction", to be honest. Just like Undead was never meant to be serious ... ever.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Are you guys referring to the Aussie zombie movie I recommended a while back? I didn't think anyone had bothered to watch it. Good stuff  .

Yup, that's the one.

And Crono, as for not trying to be serious, the cover of the DVD makes the movie seem uber serious. Just compare it to the cover of Shaun of the Dead.

Also, in the first house scene with the fisherman being all badass with his guns, it didn't seem that funny but rather going for stylized slow motion gun twirling badassery (yes, badassery, I invent words on a whim).

As for Donnie Darko, perhaps it deserves another watch. I just know I wasn't that impressed the first time around. And "what's so bad about using time travel to convey a personal story?" Well for one, it just comes right out of f**king no where. It'd kinda be like watching a darker/more mature version of Seventh Heaven (or one of those family drama things) and having some crazy sci-fi s**t start happening with only a few minutes to go.
