Just finished watching the complete set of Firefly episodes on DVD, and
I have to say I hate Fox even more than I thought was humanly possible.
It's probably the best sci-fi television series of recent years and the
world will be a sader place without it. Awesome characters, great
stories and Joss Whedon's usual panache make it a must see,
particularly if you enjoyed the movie continuation Serenity.
This brings me to something that has been happening more and more on
television and is really,
really pissing me off. Television stations
no longer give shows a fair go, if they don't rate instantly then they
are considered unworthy and instantly discarded. The problem is they
rarely show the series in the correct order, making people feel
alienated because they don't get the story or the characters, so they
then stop watching. So many excellent shows of all sorts get canned
every day, and are replaced with cheap-to-make reality television
rubbish or another CSI clone.
In Australia its even worse because shows that aren't considered worthy
in the US aren't shown, or we get all the latest fad bulls**t from the
US, rubbish reality or celebrity based shows. Commercial television
stations here won't show or produce any Australian shows because its
cheaper for them to buy crap from America, rather than making an
investment here.
God bless ABC and SBS (in Australia), who show original, quality programming from Australia and the world.
/end bitter rant.
