I think that bigots won't change through the experience of watching it but others can draw from it in a postive way. It may be true that the introduction part in romania wasn't pure Borat humor and probably was put in to make even the last idiot "get" Borat's personality. But scenes like "We support the war of terror" or "I think he could be Americanized" are gold.
Why snark works.

Which reminds me, that woman yelling profanities in "kazhakstani" was pretty much the only thing that gave me a chuckle.
And that's another thing: from what those people were yelling when Borat took his leave in that horse-powered dacia it was 120% clear to me that they had no idea whatsoever what the heck was going on.
Fooling poor and gullible villagers for someone's amusement is part of what bugs me about this movie. Scroo ethecs lewk at t3h kazakhestanee has acow in his livingrewm LOL!!1

That wasn't filmed in Kazhakstan, just to be clear.

And I can't speak for others, but the blind hatred is very obvious in the movie, and the movie combines humour with 'Oh my God, I hate people' kinda stuff.

If you actually watch the movie, it's fairly appauling the way people are.

If you have a chance, check out Aronofsky's "The Fountain". If you don't understand the film at the very least you'll enjoy the visuals. This film has masterful cinematography and art direction. The work they did to create the locations look fantastic. Be forewarned, there are a lot of undertones in this movie and almost nothing is explained, you have to use your head to figure out the meaning of it all. It's very well made and definitely theater-worthy. My only complaint is I would have liked to see more conquistador adventuring and having that tie into the rest of the film more directly. I'm curious what he cut to make it PG-13, though.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Watched Tenacious D which is certainly no classic buts its amusing enough. The highlight is perhaps predictably the soundtrack which I immediately...bought after watching it. Couldnt help noticing the swearing every other word lol. And the legend that is Meatloaf throwing in some vocals

Only big minus...I know its a older song but where the hell was Tribute?!

Just finished The Devil Wears Prada.

I was doubtful that this movie would be worth a s**t, but in the end, I was glad I finished watching.

This movie begins so badly, from the perspective of how snobbish people can be, but after a time you see that good does overcome and win.

By the ending, you see that with enough morals, you can chose wisely.

Anywho's, if you wanna see just how petty or materialistic some can get, watch this flick.

? quote:Just finished watchin World Trade Center.
It was worth the wait.

Watching 9-11 happen once was enough for me, I don't see any need to wallow in it. And it's not like we didn't just live through it ffs.

Though it does raise a good question- where the f**k is Osama Bin Laden and why aren't we hunting him down instead of wanking off in Iraq?

[EDIT] Here are some of my recent movies, and favorite shows:

Superman Returns: It was.. okay. Wish Bryan Singer has stuck with the X-Men franchise to keep X3 from sucking so bad instead, though. Not going to bother renting it or seeing it again.

Daredevil: Director's Cut DVD: Yeah, I know, the theatrical version was godawful. You wouldn't believe the difference, though, that proper editing and putting in the rest of the freaking story makes. Genuinely one of my favorite comic book movies now, and better than X3 or Superman Returns, which both disappointed me last summer.

Thank You For Smoking: Very funny movie for smokers and non-smokers alike. What I found most interesting was learning the rhetorical techniques he used to obfuscate the issue of the health risks of smoking. I see a lot of right-wing pundits use similar techniques to avoid rather blatant truths.

Casino Royale: Very good, albeit a bit long. Eva Green was amazing in it. Best Bond girl ever, you really fell in love with her and could see why Bond fell for her. Daniel Craig was good as well. Can't wait for the next movie, looks like Mr. White may have ties to a larger underground organization... Spectre?!

An Inconvenient Truth: Pretty straightforward, really, in terms of putting forth a convincing case about global warming and addressing the common criticisms you hear. A nice documentary. There are some biographical bits about Gore in it, probably added by the film-makers to spice it up a little since it's really just a presentation. Some feel like digressions, others fit in quite nicely. It's also interesting that while Bush sold himself as sort of a rural cowboy, Gore spent much of his childhood on a farm.

Battlestar Galactica: After the awesome Exodus from New Caprica, it's just been okay... though the last couple episodes have been quite good and the fall finale looks to be interesting.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Great season 2 finale. Looks like a kids' show, but the underlying themes of war, genocide, and loss make it very appealing to adults as well. Also, Toph rules!

Venture Bros.: The best show Cartoon Network has put out. Just wow. Some damn funny and smart stuff.

"Thank You for Smoking" was pretty good.
Loved "V for Vendetta".
I thought "Xmen 3" was better than the first two, I liked
the darker story.
I needed to watch "Blazing Saddles" for the 20th time today.

Superman Returns isn't that bad. I thought it had some major flaws when I saw it in theaters, but after seeing it again (and waiting several months) I've grown fonder of the film. (To note, Fox pushed, hard, for X3 to get made and to debut before Superman Returns in theaters. With about a year of production time, start to finish it's amazing that we don't have a crock of s**t that ignores everything ever done with the X-Men. Of course, Singer's two part Phoenix Saga would have been amazing.)

Also, seriously, have you seen the other Superman movies? Returns is far better than any of them. Except, possibly, Superman I. I still have yet to sit down and watch the 2000 cut of that and the Donner cut of II, though.

The Director's Cut of Daredevil is phenomenally better, isn't it? (I still wouldn't rank it very high on my "favorite comic book movies" list though)

I haven't seen Thank You For Smoking yet.

I would like to point out yet again, that I do not post topics or replies to wallow in tragedy.

The movie "World Trade Center" was NOT about the buildings coming down, but the hero's involved afterward.

They showed very little of the actual bad parts and nothing what so ever of the aircraft impacts.

Please try to look at the situation without so much animosity!

No need to apologize bud. I am just a bit touchy of late. I took a lot of flack everywhere I posted that December 7th thread.

As for the movie itself, I have been looking forward to it for its tribute factor, not its morbidity.

If it were possible, I'd recommend the Challenger movie as well. Sadly it was made for TV and I doubt anyone could acquire a copy even if they searched the taboo sites.

V for Vendetta was worth it just for the montage about the lesbian couple which she was incarcerated. That was just an amazing piece of storytelling.

I didn't like the altered ending much, though. And the scene where she is contemplating whether to take off V's mask near the end... and decides not to... was one of the most powerful parts in the graphic novel, and omitted from the film. Still, I thought it was a great movie overall.

The Rocky series seems to be drawn out.. then again I say this about almost every movie series that makes it past a trilogy. Eventually, it all just seems to repeat. I think Saw can make it through a couple more and be relatively interesting, though.

Oh, and that question was a serious one.. I'm not trying to be an ass.

They're going to start on it next year. Rodriguez took some time to allow Miller get some new Sin City work done and so he could make Grindhouse with Tarantino.

Jinx, totally. When I found out that's who they finally decided on I almost s**t my pants. The ranges he's shown in both DotD and 300 is amazing and I completely trust him. Especially because he is a comic book fan himself and doesn't want to be remembered as the guy who "f**ked up the watchmen". As far as I know, Alan Moore even said one of the scripts they had wasn't bad. That's quite a feat.

The original, b&w 1969 version. Probably the best horror movie I saw so far. I liked the priest character that obviously was an inspiration for Father Grigori in HL2!

Dude, yes! It's been a while since I've watched a movie out of my collection. Maybe I should watch this one again.

Too bad Land of the Dead wasn't filmed in this area.
If it was, I could've been an extra. It takes me about ten minutes to get to where the first was filmed, and about thirty to forty to get to the mall.. I forget where Day of the Dead was filmed..

300 looks awesome in my opinion. Saw the trailer for it when I went to see Borat and my jaw just dropped. Ultra-stylised live action movies appeal to me greatly, and this one looks to be quite a poster boy for them.

Watched Eragon a couple of hours ago and I must say its not a bad film. If you like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings you probably will enjoy it.

Its not as good as either but it is Star Wars set in a Lord of the Rings style world.

The main charecter (Eragon) is a poor farm boy just like Luke, the main bad guy (the one played by Robert Carlyle) is Vader and there is a Obi One charecter that teaches Eragon the ways of the Dragon Riders (or Jedi).

I'd rather just watch Star Wars or Lord of the Rings then.

I haven't seen the movie, but judging form the book I think the adjectives you are searching for here are "trite" and "predictable"
Some people are like slinkys...

They aren?t really good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one tumbles down the stairs.

Bleh Christian fundamentalist training camp.
Now would be a good time to write a check to Kim Jong Il.

Just finished watching the re-make of The Wicker Man.

Very disturbing.

Puts me in the mind of a cross between the beguiled and some druid flick.

The best things in life, aren't things.
