Its a remake of the Chinese movie "Infernal Affairs" which is one of the favourites, in case you didn't know. I was sceptical when it was announced as most Western remakes fail to live up to the originals, however I've heard nothing but great things about it so I'm really looking forward to it. Going up to watch it with some mates during the week I think.

I wondered whether I'm a splatter movie fan deep inside but it turned out not to be the case. I like to watch this kind of movies once to know what people are talking about but ... too much bowels and the like.

Well I divided my time in Boston between watching movies at the theatre, drinking in bars while old guys played bagpipes and horse drawn carriages clip-clopped their way down the cobblestone streets, and watching HBO on Demand.

I watched:

1. Jackass 2 - If you liked the first, you'll like this one.
2. The Departed - Some really great characters, a story that doesn't sag or lose momentum, and DiCaprio/Damon are a pretty powerful 1-2 punch.
3. Money Train - Nothing stops the money train.
4. Good Will Hunting - I first saw this movie years ago when I was too young to appreciate it. Despite being everyone's favorite movie... it deserves that dubious honor. I loved it.

Just got back from seeing The Departed, and like everybody else, I thought it was ace  That said, there were elements I felt were handled better in Infernal Affairs, and some of the changes didn't sit too well with me. My friend who had seen both preferred The Departed and I can certainly appreciate why, but I guess I'm just too fond of the characters and actors in the original movie.

Anyone else seen both and like to share their thoughts on the two?

Perfume

IMHO the best movie of recent years. I was surprised! Even if you've read the novel. The story starts weird, then gets weirder and ends absolutely insane. Full of memorable moments and unusual themes. From the director of "Lola rennt", I noticed.

My favourite movie since Eternal Sunshine!

Watched The Prestige. Good movie, nice ending, overall a darker movie than I expected.

Also, on the drive home in the dark I was passing a car on a 2 lane backcountry road when the gas pedal got jammed and stuck to the floor.

After about 5 seconds of paniced acceleration on a winding road I shifted it into neutral, pulled over, and then reached down and yanked the pedal up.

f**king unnerving.

I watched a ski/snowboard film by Teton Gravity Research called Anomaly. It just came out a week ago. Some crazy stuff but my favorite had to be the runs they did in Japan. They just took a jeep around the highways, and any mountains they liked the look of they hiked up and rode down. Some really pretty shots that are like nothing you'll ever seen in a ski film, because all the terrain is so uniquely Japanese.

Some really good songs in it too. Unfortunately I don't have excel on this computer so I can't see the tracklistings. If anyone does have excel, I'd really appreciate them copying and pasting the tracklists from this excel list.

I just watched Garden State (which has probably already been mentioned, but I can't be bothered to trawl through 160-odd pages!) and it's immediately gone on my favourite films list. IMHO, Zach Braff is a genius. Not exactly a stuff-blows-up sort of film, but enjoyable with some dark comedy.

I almost agree. Yes, X-Men 3 sucks, but I found the Lake House to be merely decent. Keanu is just a laughable casting choice for any drama / love story, though it wasn't that bad since most of it was voice over and you didn't have to see his face.

I recently picked up Solaris (2002 edition) and The Cell (Jennifer Lopez's only decent movie). Solaris is nice and slow, a nice movie to fall asleep with. The Cell is the opposite, with some pretty gnarly imagery, especially a certain delicious setpiece with Vince Vaughn.

I discovered this topic locked.... I'm guessing because it was autolocked after the 4 month inaction protocol from the old site. Regardless, I unlocked it now for all to share their movie/video watching experiences once again!

Never mind the four months of inactivity, but the 4 years! Wow, this thread needs some love.

So I watched the new Tron: Legacy movie this Saturday, and I have to say it was FREAKING AWESOME!

In fact, I made my way to Houston Texas to watch it in IMAX 3D and it was just pure bliss. I'm completely sold on 3D, I think it's pretty cool. And in Tron, they treat the 3D part like The Wizard of Oz treated color. but regardless, watching a movie that's actually made for IMAX is just awesome with the music. I bought the soundtrack already when it came out earlier in the month, simply because I'm a Daft Punk fan already (they wrote the whole soundtrack), and this was considered their next album.

The movie was just fantastic in its re-imagining of the original, and the novel concept of the Isos, and the themes. I really think it's a nice original movie, that I WILL be seeing again in theaters (probably this Tuesday :hee:).

Have you guys seen it? I highly recommend it, and probably on my list for top movies in the past 5 years. The music was astounding for me... (goes back to listening to more Tron soundtrack...:geek:)

I hope to see it soon, too bad it wasn't actually shot in IMAX, though. They just upscaled some of the parts that were shot on a better resolution camera.

Also, the soundtrack was entirely produced by Daft Punk, so that's why it's so awesome, I would imagine.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

OK.. I know the answer as this is my old thread. :hee:

Under the old server/host and the old Snarkpit (prior to this Larchy version) the thread took so freakin long to load that Gwil began a new thread with the same topic heading.

It seems under the new host that the thread loads spiffy fast so...

Anywho's that's why it was locked.

I think the code only querys the page number in the database, not the entire thread and then throw 90% of it away (the old way).

Watched "Knight and Day" last night. Was pretty good. Had a lot of my kind of humor in the lines. The "I think I wanna have sex" line after the truth serum had me in stitches with the look on Tom's face.

Looking forward to "Legend of the Guardians"

Johna Hex, Wasn't all that bad, but really wasn't all that good either. Lets just say I would of gotten up mid way and got my soda and popcorn refilled and not rushed to do it, I would of felt like I missed nothing.

I too Watched "Knight and Day" with my daughter who brought it home the other day.. it was rather good, even though I dislike Tom Cruise and find him to be the William Shatner of our day (over actor).

Dude, William Shatner is like 80. He's old enough to be your father. (In fact I bet the age gap between your father and you is smaller than the age gap between you and William Shatner)

In other words ... he's from your parent's day. :p

Dood, I remember Trek in the non rerun sense of the word. Besides, "from your day" has nothing to do with being in the same age bracket. :p

If it had to do with age, no one here at Snarkpit would be in the same month let alone day. :hee:

Yeah, but Star Trek isn't when he came on the scene. He was on TV for about 15 years prior to that.
And following that guideline.. Tom Cruise was here long before "Our day" at least yours. I remember him baby faced.

Anywho's, its always been my understanding that "Our day" describes events, not really times. In our day, we had cars with carborators. In yours they have fuel injectors. Soon they will be fuel cells.

Anyway, events more so than times.

I guess one could argue times only with respect that someone was younger then, but our day could be as little as a year ago if things advanced fast enough.

Our day PC's were 386's @ 15 mhz. Now less than 2 decades later they are infinitely more powerful, yet this is still my day too.

In my day computers took up whole rooms ( if not more than one ) and the only internet was had by the Government. If you wanted to play games on said computers.. you had to have a connection like a mommy or a grandmother who worked at a military missile base.
