I got around to beating Freedom Fighters last night and when the game was over I was sitting here thinking about how cool of a movie this game would make. So, I thought I'd see what you guys would think could cut it as a GOOD motion picture.
You can assume that whatever game you choose would be made properly, as in adapted to film in a way so that it doesn't lose story and that it isn't boring. (But if it doesn't have a good story to begin with cough house of the dead cough it'll be crap. Also, by boring I mean lifeless, storyless, and stupid.)
Place your ideas below
I also think the entire Metal Gear series would make an awesome film series.

The Silent Hill games could make a really good transition if the director wasn't too heavy handed (as with Resident Evil). They need to concentrate more on the suspense and awareness that there's monsters around rather than throwing them in your face simply to show off how 'brilliant' the special effects are.
That said, Castlevania would make a great balls-out actioner!
edit Kage beat me to it

Vagrant Story on the playstation, but perhaps I'm wrong. Its story was great - really twisting and intruiging, and the style it was presented in (comic book speech bubbles in the in-game engine) was absolute genius. Perhaps its overall coolness would be lost in a transition to film, with speech and , most of all, actors. The game itself was hugely cinematic, in particular the intro (the ACTUAL intro, as opposed to the FMV sequence as it loaded), which felt to me like a movie trailer.

I liked the res evil movie actually, as has everyone I've talked about it with. Its NOT a good adaption of the game but its a cool movie in its own right, provided you try and view it as seperate to the games.

I found it unbareable. Sometimes I just had no idea what was going on, I found almost the entire cast of 2-d characters boring (I still can't remember any names, which at least half had zero character and were simply there to die), that hive queen was the most annoying thing in existence, and the soundtrack was just random moments of noise. Oh, and don't forget the horrible SFX on that Licker, and some horrible logic holes (why does that laser corridor wait until one guy is left alive before splicing him into many pieces? why didn't it just use that in the first place instead of one lazer? Was it toying with them or what? Oh, and there's that big trap door in the train. WHY?! ). And don't forget the fact that everything was either made of shiny aluminum or concrete. Urgh.
I was surpsied it made no attempt to be scary as well, not inculding the one million cheap shots, because that's just cheating.
God, I hated that movie.
[EDIT]: hehe, Can you feel the love?

Same here, man.
I like the RE movie, I don't know why. As I've said it many times before. There are no really good aspects of the movie (Except the director, he is a good director, it was mostly the focus of the story). And I'm also looking forward to RE: Apocalypse ... not sure why lol. But I'm sure I'll like it, even if it isn't great.

Pah, most of the good ones have been used.... so I'll just repeat the ones I'd go see.......
Doom: A beefed up Kevin Spacey as the Marine.
Half-Life: Charlie Sheen as Gordon. He did a really crappy movie regarding aliens where he looked a lot like Gordon, so it'll work out well.
Morrowind: Purely because Morrowind, as a movie, would be some hard-core trippy s**t. "wtf, walking cat people with swords!?" Good luck writing a coherent screenplay, though.

Perhaps Front Mission 3 - plenty of characters and development in that, with a pretty complex storyline. With those things it could mean there is plenty of content for a film without just having action to go on (ie. like an FPS being made into a film). I'd love to see some realistic CGI of those wanzer's too - the stuff in the games is great but the quality of something like LOTR's special effects would be incredible.

I'm not sure if Half-Life is movieworthy. Its a great game, with a good storyline, however I dont think the story would translate well to a movie.
And anyway, who would play Walter Bennett?

How is kill.switch? I played the demo and, as a fast paced shooter, it was good fun. Is the full game any good? I can imagine it being a bit short lived.

The only thing worse than a movie based on a game, is a game based on a movie, but what about a game based on a movie based on a game???

Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill would make great movies...actually my friends and I are going to make indie versions of both when we get a camera in the next while. When my hair grows long I've got a great Snake impression, and I can do the voice spot-on

Well the book could be made into a film better than the game I reckon - if you are talking about the first one that is. Tom Clancy books often make decent enough crossovers to films, so R6 would stand a chance. I think its perhaps a bit long but book to film conversions always have that problem tbh.

Uh dude, Kojima based Solid Snake off of Snake Pliskin in Escape from New York, not the other way around.
MG2 Kojima even matched up actors to the characters for design purposes
[EDIT]
ha ha ha, I never realized there was THAT much simularity. However, Charlie Sheen is a s**tty actor, and he would make the movie drop faster then a madrigras whore.
Goddamn, Christopher Walken is cool.
However, I like Kevin Spacey's impression of him more lol.

I think the entire Metal Gear Series as potential for a film adaptation (especially Metal Gear 2 ... oh man.)
However, I would rather Sons of Liberty didn't get made into a movie, just because I didn't like Raiden too much.
