fish, i will let you dwell on what you typed till i get back. it was completely out of context, and unwarranted.. not to mention extremely childish.
i meant what i said, you took it upon yourself to see it in another light. it is not up to me to decide how each person will take my words and type 75 different versions in the hopes that some asshole won't take it poorly.
when someone takes something out of context, its their issue, and can only be resolved by themselves.
i was not wrong, i just... wasn't completely right.
i'm off to new jersey, be back sunday.. try not to make matters worse in my absence :/
i said unreliable source, not liar.. someone can be 100% truthful, but unwilling to give it 100% of the time.

Lets leave any disagreements out of this thread, no use in seeing it go pear shaped. Keep it to your PMs guys.
Orph - you have listed Echo twice in your list, might wanna combine those

Mmm ... i have been toying with the idea to make a final HL movie
before HL2 comes out. I could take the 10 maps with the most votes and
try to make an impressive video with it ... we could set up a server
with an HLTV and play those maps
would be great, but then again, it's just an idea.

Sounds like fun to me  Could be tricky getting a server willing to run 10 custom maps though.

My definitions are hazy at best, i'd say a great mapper has the ability
to create classic/cult classic maps (eg Gustavo), and a good mapper can
turn out decent looking/fairly decent playing maps more consistently..
i dont really know tbh :/ my opinion is so old and out of date now due to lack of playing my reply is essentially worthless..
top 10 maps? old stuff as Leprous said.. even many of the old Valve DM
maps are in there i'd say - top 10's are simply too hard to compile and
too innaccurate to be worth making IMO..

I would contribute but I have not seen 90% of the maps posted on this site, only because I havn't had Halflife (or the mods) installed since last year, nor have I mapped since the end of last year. Members come and go, keeping track of everyone and their maps would be a daunting and time consuming task, one that I don't have time for  . Anyway congrats to the ones mentioned.

NS_Hydrosity. Great map, and I'm still the only one to comment on it. And of course, NS_Eclipse.

I think the idea is to have the top ten Snarkpit maps.
I already botched my vote earlier, but I'll throw additional support to the snarkpitcrewmap, Apotheosis, and Forsaken.
As for what makes a great mapper over a good mapper, I have no idea. If I did, I'd apply those ideas to make myself a great mapper

The biggest problem I have with that is this is a voluntary internet
forum and I don't think anyone should feel like they are obligated to
post in this thread or make up a list if they don't want to. I almost
refrained from voting out of protest.

Well, you do seem to have Eclipse and ns_eclipse both listed for 3... they're the same map  While I'm being picky, might as well note that I counted 7. hehe

1st, thanx for the assistance guys, you would never think adding these tallies up could be so hard
2ndly, i fixed the total for you andrew, BUT since you took it upon yourself not to vote, not even for yourself, it seems odd that you caught it at all.. sorry about messing eclipse up though, i had not realized it was a single map with two names.
3rdly,cassius, Dave's map cannot have 2 votes, if you don't use one of yours for it
forceflow is the only thanto vote ATM.. unless dave wants to vote  (hint, hint)
i would greatly appreciate any more corrections in totals.

Thanto rocks, but I chose not to list incomplete maps. It would most
likely make the list when its complete, the beta's I tested certainly
had a lot of potential.

I haven't played enough hldm maps to vote. I can't recall ever
actually playing a snarkpit map online. The only custom ones I played
are DRS ones I've long forgotten.
I don't think Thanto should be in anyones top 10 list. Evar.

How about Mario_Air, one of the most popular DM maps out there now? And how could one forget the likes of Kitkat_Express? or the mad fragging peeps do in MesaBase?
And hey, what about Kitkat_Egyptian's reflective floors or the majesty of Kitkat_Jewel?
Let's not forget DocRock. He's a SnarkPit member too. And he has a lot of great maps which rally many of the listed and surpass many of them as well in playabilty, fun and architecture.
These, and many other DocRock maps, should be included in this top 10 list.
DocRock has done more for the HL community than any other mapper listed here.

LOL, that you did mate
Doc, if your maps deserve mention in other people's posts, then other
people's maps deserve mention in yours. I'm all for people voting for
one of their own maps if they genuinely think they deserve it (I may
vote for my flatshaded map in my next 5, when I get around to deciding
on them), so fair enough if thats how you feel, but ONLY listing your
own maps is pretty lame.
/me chooses not to get dragged further into this matter

Allow me to clarify something for Mr. Rock, who cannot seem to grasp what this thread is about.
1) this thread is dedicated to any maps made by members so, your maps do qualify.
2) you personally are permitted to nominate 10 maps, if you chose to use each of them for your own creations, no one will stop you.
3) the final tally will be over everyones lists, and since each of your nominations counts only once (sorry you have not the prestige to count as more than a single vote no matter how great an impact you made in the world) your maps will more than likely have only 1 vote each so.. with so many maps of the 3+ variety already nominated, i do NOT foresee you making one of the 10 top slots  but there is always a chance so do not lose faith just yet.
4) no maps count that were not created by a snarkpit member.
i do hope this assists you in understanding exactly what this thread was meant to convey.. i am sure that all votes are honestly given, and all doc rock maps will receive every ounce of credit they deserve.
thank you for your votes.
Orph

There are more ... but, most of the others I 'like' I'd be going off screen shots, so.
[EDIT]
Add GMDM2 to that list ... dunno if that would fall under a mod really or not ... oh well.

Doesn't read like a joke to me, though I admit that it being written in
3rd person does make it seem wierd. If it is a joke, I don't get how...
a) It's meant to be 'funny' rather than provocative
b) He would joke about it when we KNOW he likes his own maps a lot (not that he shouldn't)
Meh, who cares.
