Yeah I pull them all the time. But be careful to get extra rest later though. Its like the mafia - if you don't pay back your sleep debt it will come to get you.

I've never had to do an all-nighter. The fact that you do have to is probably a sign youre spending too much time posting on forums and not WORKING!

Lol, I can talk, I've got a test tomorrow and a test the day after... neither of which ive studied adequately for D:

i've been working nightshifts for the last 18 years.

pussies

and you cant really catch up on lost sleep. stay awake for an extra 24 hours and you'll only need the same sleep.

thats not to say your body will let you go for the extra 24 hours. unless you have the reserves to get you there, as Atrocity found out, it's mr. jello time. the hallucinations can start after that, too.

i love the buzz of streaching out in bed to fall asleep when i'm that tired.

Every piece of coursework I hand in tends to have an all-nighter pulled to get it in on time. One particular piece - a playstation game I had to make last semester - took about 3 days constant work, though only the last night didn't see ANY sleep. That was also the first time I've worked through the night IN uni, which was sort of eerie being there, alone, for most of the night.

I pulled an allnighter and then some during my last year of Uni and I swear there was someone else in the same room as me. I got really paranoid and started seeing people that weren't there. Never again! I also felt so hungry I could be sick and I couldn't stop shaking either.

edit I also started seeing things on my screen that weren't there...

generally there are three occasions that call for allnighters for me

lan parties (that was while ago though)

clubbing (well dunno if that counts as you just go to bed in the morning then)

and yeah always before a heavy exam here at uni. it goes so far that my biorithm reverses: wake up at 8pm, study till 8am, exam till 1pm, then go to sleep, and so on... If you do this gradually you can actually "skip" a night without your body noticing

hmm, more regular than most it seems - although, my "all nighters" are
usually 30 hours+, and fuelled by narcotics and alcohol

not too great for me later in the week, but its not often i do them.. but they are usually much longer than 24 hours.

i remember walking into town to pay some bills after spending 23hours lying on the couch playing RE2. (it was the 1st time i'd played it, and was determined to finish:P) every time i seen a weed or a kit-kat wrapper or something, i automatically wanted to go pick it up, and i was afraid of mirrored shop fronts.

that was a strange walk.

After I've been mapping for a few hours and have to go out to pick something up I keep thinking the city engineers are poor builders. I think in my head "Why didn't they stick to 15 degree rotations", "That's a brutal planter there must be 20 faces there." To many odd open areas here..." stupid stuff like that.

Its also not a func_wall, so its splitting the ground faces.

I've pulled all nighters up til 4-5 am every night this summer. I stayed up for 36 hours a few weeks ago because I was out of my mind (Shrooms).

Then again, on my all nights, I sleep in until 1 pm

fizscy46; Out of your mind isn't the way to be! In control and

The only times I have pulled all-nighters have been for exceptionaly good novels. I never did it for school work. I'm far too inclined to just say f**k it and hand in incompletes.

mine was preparation for a potential onslaught of "drugs are bad,
mmkay". i wholly endorse an all nighter, or all dayer - without
stimulation of any kind (visual, mental).. thats really mad.

kind of like fasting, a test of endurance.. nigh on impossible though haha

disclaimer: i do not endorse
the use of caffeine full stop if it is contained within the horrible
bitter entity we know as "coffee". if its tea you are free to go.

My all-nighters are few and far between but generally fueled by video games. My 8th grade graduation I was up all night on the Sega Genesis, senior sleepover I was up all night boxing while feeling rather catatonic aaaaaand then just various nights at my friend's house while playing whatever games I had. No narcotics generally so I slept like a baby afterwards.

and what about if one were to consume it as a food? two sides to every coin - and also, couple of things to think about.

1) freedom of choice

2) beer. beer is a harmful
drug, as are cigarettes. the key is not so much a "line between" the
two definitions of drugs, more a point of whatever you like, in
moderation  sites like erowid.org show a responsible attitude toward
the topic of drugs, and scientific if you browse through.

but thats another discussion for another time

No worries Gwil, I'm not condemning people for using, only for fooling themselves into thinking it's harmless. What bothers me is either ignorace, or denial of the consequences. One of my favorite fictional charcters lives by this idea:

You can do whatever you want; as long as you are wiling to pay the price.

As for the line between drugs, alchohol and nicotine; I don't see one. The only difference is what's leagal and what isn't. That goes back to the price of your actions.

That is pretty much true. Obviously it is not good for your lungs to smoke things, but that can be averted by eating it. Which leaves negative effects relating to biochemistry of the brain. Admittedly there may be a few (basically you confuse the dopamine producers in the brain), however they are fairly insignifigant. It is virtually impossible to avoid hurting your brain tho; you kill brain cells just by tapping on your forehead. To me the worse effects are socialogical and legal issues, which of course vary depending on where you live.

I've never pulled an all night'er in the sense that you're all talking about here.
However, last (spring) term, I was at school working on an online library from 10am to 5am. Then later that week (the night it was due) I was there at 9am until about 1am, it was due at midnight.

<DIV>Just a tip, whatever you do, don't stay up all night and then "crash" afterwards (to sleep) while you're still full of caffeine. Or alcohol, for that matter. Actually, just include most drugs. Sleeping on Ecstacy will kill you - if you actually manage to get to sleep (it kept a friend awake for 72 hours straight).</DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV>As for the pot issue, in my opinion it should be legal - there are nearly no harmful side-effects from it (unless you're one of those really unlucky people who happen to develop an instant case of schitzophrenia), it's enjoyable, and it's a hell of a lot safer to those around you than alcohol. They simply need to introduce anti-dope-driving laws with a legal limit similar to alcohol's, and everything's set!</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV>Oh yes, don't smoke it, bong it. For those in Melbourne, check out the Queen Vic Markets.</DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV>As for chemically extremely addictive drugs, these should still be banned due to their sociologial effect. Nobody wants a town of people with unstoppable drug habits, doing anything to get the money for their next hit. It just ain't nice.</DIV>

On Architecture course I do it's not uncommon for people to do all nighters. In fact on the last deadline a couple pulled a double all nighter with no sleep for 3 whole days. On the final day they kept doing really wierd things and babbling jibberish without knowing it lol. Very funny watching people with massive sleep deprivation!

Best thing to keep you up is really really strong coffee. I'm not talking about stuff you can buy. My mate made a batch up, it tasted like charcoal and at first I almost fell asleep. 2 Minutes later I couldn't actually keep myself still to do work, I was running around everywhere lol.

As for the pot issue, in my opinion it should be legal - there are nearly no harmful side-effects from it (unless you're one of those really unlucky people who happen to develop an instant case of schitzophrenia), it's enjoyable, and it's a hell of a lot safer to those around you than alcohol. They simply need to introduce anti-dope-driving laws with a legal limit similar to alcohol's, and everything's set!
Amen. But driving when you're somewhat blazed is actually just as safe if not safer than driving sober because knowing that you're high, you drive more cautiously

that's just an assumption. It is however, much safer than driving drunk.
