Today I ran 1.5 miles (2414.016 m) in 15 minutes, 14 seconds. I'm preparing for USMC boot camp, and my goal is to be under 13.5 minutes by next week. Lots of fun.

Wow, that's a pretty slow time. I've managed a 15 minute two mile run, and I'm slow and out of shape. Good luck though.

Stop me if I'm wrong here - don't they train you in boot camp?

yeh but you have to be of a certain fitness before hand cos I'd like to
get in to the Royal Engineers but im 5 Kg over the minimum weight and I
have to start training so I can run 1.5 miles in under 10 mins.

Hope your not in High School cause it is required that you run 6 laps (1.5 miles) in under 14 min. (16 min for females), but good luck anyways. Heres a hint: breath through your mouth not your nose, unless your nostrils are as big as a horse.

You all must be fat asses if it takes you 10-15minutes to run a mile and a half.
I ran 1 mile in 5 minutes when I was in junior high.

I'm in 8th grade. Thing is, I can run real good. Just not on endurance running.

It took me three years of track in high school before I hit a 5:30 mile. I've seen faster at my age, I wasn't a superstar or anything. But that was amongst seasoned track and fielders in high school. A 5 minute mile in junior high is nothing short of prodigal. You're either full of wheels or full of s**t.
I'm not understanding how being 5 kg over the minimum weight is a problem - unless you meant maximum.

I'll have to agree that 15 minutes is slow for 1.5 miles. Not that I
was ever very fast or anything; maybe around a 6:20-ish mile time. And
yeah, I also agree that a 5 minute mile in junior high means you're
essentially some sort of superstar in the making.
My unprofessional and utterly useless yet obvious advice is: Try to
develop a tempo for breathing (usually 2 steps / 2 steps with most
people) and make sure you use both your nose AND your mouth. Good luck
with that training. Make sure you stretch a lot before and after too -
I would forget sometimes and be aching all over the next day.

I did the 100m in 13 seconds, so about average, that was in year 11, I'm now in 1st year of college.

<DIV>Am a useless sprinter, around 14s for 100m. On the endurance, I'm a little better - around 15mins for 4km. The course we usually get herded around is fairly hilly, though, so my height kinda helps out a little there. Oh yes, I'm 16, if you're comparing anything.</DIV>
<DIV>.</DIV>
<DIV>Mmm... swimming. I used to swim all the time, but have recently become somewhat lazy and developed a girlfriend. So, yeah.</DIV>

In 8th grade I tried to run track (outside school), and I ran a 5:40 mile which I thought was pretty good. However, I got to the first practice and not only did I get last place, but people were f**king LAPPING ME. I was probably the only kid who got over a 5:20. I quit after that.
So anyways my point is that jr. high track runners are faster than you think and I find it believable that spartan ran a ~5 min mile in jr high.

children, you're all the same
not one of you picked up on the fact that he mentioned the marines..
after being in the military, i suppose i would be though.
i highly recommend the military, but explore your options please, there is a reason they call them "Jar Heads"
if you have the education for it, look toward the air force, if not,
the army is the best runner up, assuming the proper MOS is chosen.. i
myself was an engineer, i wouldn't trade that experience for nothing in
the world, it was the only job i ever truly loved.
whatever branch you finally opt for, i bid you good luck..
the military has bare minimums in distance running, you are not even close, but they will fix that up for you soon enough.
this, is a life choice, research it...please.

heh I did 3.5k in 14 mins a couple of weeks ago ... I reckon I'm
better at short distance though, but I've gotten really out of shape
recently so my best time is like 13.5s :/

I don't understand why you think the running a mile in 5 minutes is "prodigal".
I'll admit that it was hard as hell and I felt like my heart was about to bust out my chest but I did manage it. I managed it only twice though and that was after many tries. After that I decided to take my time it was too much. We had to run the mile once a week. That was about 5 years ago though so I could never run that fast anymore.

"real good" is the part that's killing that sentence.
"very well" is what I'm sure you meant.

Isn't 1km equal to 2/3 of a mile. If so you are horribly missguided. Either that or your that one Olympic runner. Wasn't his name Jessy Jackson.

1 km = roughly 0.42 miles
So, 2 km is not even a mile.
...and Jessie Jackson is a civil rights activist.

All of my exercise comes from walking the hills on campus to class and playing lots of DDR.
