At last it is finished.  My final compile still has a few minor errors, but at some point I must stop being a perfectionist and release this map.  So here it is.

The map is no longer associated with the "Weapons Patch".  Instead, it comes with its own mod.  You must run this mod. in order for Gmdm2 to work.  It is fully compatible with Steam. <BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
<BLOCKQUOTE dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
You need to unzip the archive to your base Half-Life directory.  For Steam people this is:

....Steam/SteamApps/[your e-mail address here]/half-life

For non-Steam people this is just something like C:/games/Half-Life

I highly recommend browsing to the .../Half-Life/gmdm2 directory and reading the gmdm2_readme.html file.

I have also released the WAD file for Gmdm2.  This is not needed to play the map (textures are  -wadincluded), but you may download it if you wish: Thank you all for your help.  I hope you enjoy Gmdm2!

PS: just for a laugh, check out my overview image:

Yuck... I don't think everyone has Steam though. Let's try some sort of WON server.

bah wish I'd been around earlier to tell you.... you really should give a map this special a better name. "gmdm2" is so generic! it shoudl be BOULDER OF ULTIMATE DUEM! or something

I still haven't been able to see it, being stuck on 56k now and without much time. it looks and sounds kick-ass though. congratulations!

Cheers everyone

Gmdm2 is just the old-fashioned naming convention: GolluM DeathMatch 2. But I think the name - Apotheosis - is pretty good

Keep me updated about servers - I'd love to have a game sometime, and it would be interesting just to see if this map can be played online.

"Steam Friends" often won't let me sign in for some reason

you should look the name up.. i think it fits

been a long time in coming mike, but the results speak for themselves.

i have seen few other mods with this kind of dedication and sticktuitiveness. <--- i have heard this word my whole life, but never seen it in text form, it looks odd

i am glad i was a small part of it all.

I think that's probably it for me - no more maps for HL1. But who knows, I might end up eating those words

I'm certainly not going to have time/patience for such a long amateur project again. All the same, I'm glad I did this.

Yes, yes, a short map, without a gimmick that will take a year or so to implement. I think it'll be rather healthy and therapeutic.

You're probably right. But I would have to have at least some gimmicks, even if they are just easy token ones.

I've certainly had enough of coding.

sigh I have to confess I'm getting the itch again, and ideas are starting to stream in as they did when I finished gmdm1. I haven't really allowed myself to think of other maps, but now.....

Still, I'm also getting the itch to play more badminton, go caving, go diving and write a book. So it'll depend on what needs scratching the most :heee:

Well, I never had a chance to download it, let alone play it, but there is a map entry in the database by that name, but only as a subtitle. And everything is linked off-site and broken. The map also goes by the name of 'Apotheosis' But here's the map entry on the Pit for more info:

http://www.snarkpit.net/index.php?s=maps&map=69

However when I did a couple of searches for it in Google, the link below came up. If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see it mentioned and linked, but links are hidden to non-members. I don't feel like registering over there, but you certainly can and find out if it's worth it.

http://op4gunners.forumup.com/about758-0-asc-20-op4gunners.html

If you do get a download for it, let us know, we can insert it into its map profile and host it here for all to find. You're not the first person coming here looking for this map!

Also, if you can get a hold of some of the members who played that map often back then, you could get in touch with Orpheus. -Or Finger. They both still pop in from time-to-time and they may still have the map.

Good luck!

I wish I still had it. It was nuts! It is a mod, though, working off Spirit HL I think, not just a map you toss into HLDM.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I managed to find the map as well as the models and sprites for it here: http://fantasypalast.dyndns.org/valve/

All I need now are the custom sounds (boulder1.wav and river.wav). I'd really like to get them if anyone has them!

Gollum is findable. Took me less than 5 minutes with google. Course, I know Mike and knew his hobbies so it was a bit easier for me. Mikes email: mike.hopley@gmail.com

ON TOPIC: Someplace in my computer room is a disc with all the maps I ever downloaded. I will try to locate it. No promises.
