Show of hands, please sah!

Who would be happy to stick their hands in their pockets, for any amount large or small, to contribute to an international "Snarkpit Server" - for testing, and public playing of users maps alike.

The idea is we can have proper playtesting in conjuction with the "Maps" forum (at server admins discretion) and a 24/7 rotation of the best official, and unofficial levels.

I'm reviewing the deals available, and will be looking at servers plugged into "main internet backbones" to ensure a decent ping for 90% of our users.

So, just out of curiosity, who would be willing to pay a little toward a server?

I don't expect the younger, unemployed folks amongst us to do it - but the more cash we have (theoretically we can afford anything) , the more flexibility we have over games/mods run, and the connection speeds for all nationalities.

P.S. it wouldn't be online til March/April...

As it happens, we can afford the best already BUT - i'd rather get the best "bare bones" deal I can, but for another $1-200, we can guarantee extra spinkies, eg support for both HL2DM, and CS:S (plus other future mods) , or reliable sub 100 ping times for the US and the UK.

Player load would be between 12 and 16 - as you can well imagine, the higher you go up the list, the greater the increments are in price change...

My box is online all the time, except when my parents turn her
off... Although I tell them not to. So I couldnt do myself
a game server. But I'd be willing to give a try to a file server
of some sorts.

No probs at all Orph, there will be ways round it - every little helps to make it slightly better for all players concerned, no matter how it reaches me :smile:

Mainly it eases the strain on my wallet so i'm a happier bunny :biggrin:

I already have a sizable "charitable donations" slice in my budget and I'd be willing to include this on the list. I realize it isn't exactly a charity, but I'd be willing to dip into that to the tune of $30-50 monthly for the duration of my employment.

the way i see it master smith, if 100 of use gave a dollar each, that would be 100 bucks.. cheap is in the eye of the beholder.

the odds are, cheap will not even be brought up at all. i am poor as hell, but i imagine i will find a way to contribute somethin.

I would support a Snark Pit HL2DM server. I only work part-time...but I could make a small contribution....even if it is just like a buck or two...I would support it :smile:

How can working too little cause you to owe money? If you make less, your average tax rate pretty much has to go down... confused

So am I....... my guess is it had to do with me providing less for me
as an independent or something (I was working on a school research
project!!!), so now I owe a tax on that. Really im confused.

California is great to live in, but its god awful expensive to do so, especially if you are within 20 minutes of the beach :biggrin: .

I supose me on the east coast wouldn't ping too bad but for source I
seem to need super low pings to play.

The Snarkpit Server has been ordered, confirmed and should be here within 14 days or so. As for now? Wait patiently and hand me that hair of the dog...

edit: Proper announcement to follow when I have IP etc - it's a 16 Player passworded HL2DM server, and naturally will be running members creations (only of the highest quality) for public play and beta testing alike.

How about a countdown on the first page :biggrin: ? You know, something like "Snarkpit HLDM server grand opening : 6 days remaining!"

No, you won't be able to "buy" admin rights - i'll be giving rcon/admin mod access to people trustworthy enough and with sufficient time to dedicate to the server.

And no, no reserved slots either. The time available on the server or the right to have your map played will be done in an entirely fair way.

But it will be a "members only" server, no? No need for slots, then.

Where is the server? Just wondering because if its in the UK then when I join will I be blamed for "laging" it because I live in Cally?

If we arrange games for 'members only', then I'm sure the password could be temporarily changed and shown here if you're logged in. We do want random hobos :razz:

Maybe you can set it up so that the site sends a PM to members about weekly/monthly password changes. Or a separate forum that only members can see about the server news and password changes??? (I know this belongs in the suggestions area)
