I watched Ong Bak and I thought was entertaining. Unfortunately I
didn't have the subtitles, but I have a feeling the story was
disposable. I really liked how they worked in the tuk tuks.

I know this isn't a movie, but has anyone watched the "first round" of this year's Eurovision competition? If so, what do you think of the contestants (especially about that norwegian rocker who wore lipstick and generally dressed and looked like a fag)?

After reading the comments on 'White Noise' I watched it anyway, and I have to agree with Orph. I found it to be really good, and even quite unsettling in places (it's very rare for a film to do that to me...the only other one I can think of being 'They'.).
However, 'White Noise' felt like there was an hour of footage snipped out as there were far too many unanswered questions. How were these things communicating, what were they etc? Would have made a great X-Files episode

Crono, you have just convinced me to go see, that as I am a little
sceptical (sp?) after watching 1 and 2, they were OK, but the poor plot
was made up by the cheese.

I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey last night. It was very very
strange. The whole time (and especially at the end) I kept
wondering what it would be like to watch it stoned. A few parts I
really enjoyed, but on the whole there were too many long shots to keep
me interested.

I don't know why many people dislike Kubric's adaptations. His version of The Shining is way better then the book, no matter what Stephen King says.
What's the point of watching a movie that is word for word the book? (This is most people's measuring scale of "crappyness" when it comes to adaptations.)
I've never attacked your opinion, by the way.

This fall I watched The Shining for the first time ever. And now
it's my favorite horror movie, and that movie alone made me have the
utmost respect for Jack Nicholson as an actor. So yeah, I liked
that particular Kubrick movie.
Crono what did you think of Eyes Wide Shut? I have a friend who
keeps saying "Fidelio" over and over and wants me to watch it, but I
have yet to see it.

I like Jack, but actually feel the remake was better than his version.
If you get the opportunity, watch it as well.
and,
The book was mucho better still. Sorry, but there is no doubt.. Sometimes the movie fails to really capture the essence. As good as the movie was, the book beats the s**t out of it.
Another good example.. "Jaws" the book scared the holy s**t out of me, the movie was just good.

Stephen King is a s**tty author, that's why the Kubrick version is better. I hated the book so much.
Morphine, I haven't seen it. But, I was told by many people that it was "bad", however, someone else explained that most people didn't like it because of the sexual content and it's actually quite good ... I mean it's Kubrick. It's kind of like people saying ?Clockwork Orange? was bad. Which is, obviously, ridiculous, since it's a great movie.
The new mini-series version of The Shining was terrible. So what are you talking about? I don't care if it was close to the book, the book was terrible too. If you want to read the book: read the book. I don't understand why either can't be respected or enjoyed in their own light. The only movie I compare to the book is The Lost World, simply because they pulled the movie out of their ass. (LXG was also rather blasphemous)
I've surmised that Stephen King should be shot. His recycled characters should meet the doom filled waters of s**tty character land and all the people who overpraise him should have their testicles and/or vagina twisted in a counter clockwise direction 30 times. Period.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

<DIV>/me contemplates words, and can only conclude that you are talking out your ass. you are bashing the book version as well as the TV version with a ferociousness contrary to your very wording.
How can you praise a movie based on a book, yet pound the book because its worse than the movie? Everyone knows that a book is more than likely better because it has the luxury of adding the details any movie cannot afford to include.
The 2001 book was leagues better in many ways, most particularly the parts where David (I think thats the characters name, been 20 years at least) has thoughts and dreams during those minutes long (it seems like hours really, its so horrible in the movie) sequences where he is floating in the monolith. The scenes where he turns into the infant version of the new self he becomes.
Anywho's, stop talking out of both sides of your mouth Crono. Either you dislike a book or author or you do not.

I meant what I said. There are many times where a movie based on a book doesn't need to be compared to the book version to test its merit. So don't jump on my ass because I pointed that out.

I would like to expand this thread just a touch by asking three questions that I would wish to discuss.
1) Do you feel that a black and white movie can be as good as a color one?
2) Do you feel that a colorized movie adds or subtracts from the quality?
3) If you like black and white, name your favorite or favorites.
The best things in life, aren't things.

Les Quatre Cents Coups is black and white and definately one of my favorite movies of all time.
Music and sound are what keep a movie together, not color.

Yeah, In a vacuous look, I'm-an-action-movie-and-not-much-more kind of way.
I don't think I could pick a favorite B&W movie, and I've never seen a B&W that had been colorized after I saw it as B&W so I don't really have an opinion about colorization. Seems to me that it is sort of like movies that are made from books. If you haven't read the book, there is no chance you'll percieve the fact that the original was heartlessly butchered.
I like Cary Grant films in general, and I think Jean Arthur may be one of the most beautiful women who ever lived.

I just watched the most horrifying, twisted, sickest perverted movie ever! It's called "Audition"; it's Japanese or Korean... That's one sick movie for people who like cruel stuff. (Makes "funny games" look like a Disney movie)

Audtion is a great flick. If you liked Audition, you may (or may not) like Ichi the Killer, Crash (from 1996), Requiem For a Dream, Salo o le 120 Giornate di Sodoma, and others.
I just saw Unleashed tonight w/ Jet Li. Great flick with a deeper plot than just martial arts. I would pretty highly reccomend it  . I wasn't even a big fan of Li until I saw this.

Saw this Japanese flick called Suicide Club.
It was a crazy movie... I know that japanese films arn't as cut and dry
as american films but ffs, right when I thought they were about to
figure everything out, the main character dies and the movie
ends. No resolution, nothing!
It was strangly good though, if you like to see Japanese school girls getting killed alot you will like this.
