Just saw Scary Movie 3 and The Last Samaruri for the first time. Scary Movie 3 was funny as hell. So many parodys so little time. The Last Samaruri was awesome and is currently one of my favorite movies now. I really liked the beauty of all the different areas that the movie took place in Japan. Also I think it gave me a better understanding of Samaruris. I really enjoyed the whole movie.

Using spray-painted waterguns in lieu of any real or replica
firearms saved him a bundle too. I think that's possibly my favorite
ultra-low budget film.
I take it you have the Desperado/El Mariachi package, CCS? The
directors commentary and insight on the shooting of El Mariachi is
fantastic - particularly the cost cutting methods employed as you
mentioned. Ultimate in low budget proves to be good, certainly gives
the majority of Hollywoods tosh output a run for it's money.

I watched the blair witch project last night, I saw it when I was younger when it first came out and thought it was pretty poor then.
My thoughts now: I like the build up of tension, but when they have the camera in the dark and it's pitch black for too long it just irritates me. The ending is terrible IMO, leaves to many unanswered questions.

/me watched Species III last night, it was better than I and II, but still not a top notch Sci-fi flick IMO, however, it did end far better than most movies of this type.

I never said the movies he's in were bad, I said HE is bad. There's a huge difference.
Apparently, the journalists at the foreign press disagree with your
view. Clive Owen just got nominated for the Golden Globe award
for his role in "Closer" (so did Natalie Portman and the director, Mike
Nichols).

I am going to watch "Kinsey" this afternoon. I've been waiting,
and the Golden Globe nomination just pushed me over the edge.

Anyone seen "Sideways"? I am not sure I'll like it, knowing the type of film and the plot.

I know that i am prolly the only snarkpit member keeping up with
the "Enterprise" series, but they are presently making Archer, even
more legendary that either Kirk, or Picard.

i am so happy with the direction the series is taking, they are not
only filling in the gaps before Kirks time, but they are creating
answers for questions no one asked yet.

i just hope, it breaks their 7 year barrier that the trek universe has established.. enterprise the series has much to do yet.
yeah, i also like this enterprise serie, especaily when you watch it since the beginning.

"Kinsey" does much more than just satisfying the prurient interests of its audience. It illustrates how love and sex are inextricably intertwined. They can exist independently of one another, but neither is truly complete without their complement.

More commendably, it deals with the issue of homosexuality without trivializing the subject. The Canadian Supreme Court has already legitimized marriage between the same sexes recently, but the Puritanistic Americans are yet to follow. Unfortunately, there are still many religious zealots who wave the flag of morality and impede tolerance with their ignorance.

I highly recommend the film. Not only does it digest philosophical questions, but it's a good drama to behold.

Why is religion the only thing that is not tolerated in our "tolerant" society? Everything is supposed to be accepted EXCEPT CHURCH. KEEP THAT GODDAMN CHURCH OUT OF OUR HOLIDAYS AND CITIES! It's silly. The reason religious ppl don't tolerate gayness is because thier main religious text tells them it's wrong. It's not ignorance, What is ignorance is trying to reproduce with someone of the same sex.

because thier main religious text tells them it's wrong...
That's the problem right there. The religious text is written by
man and interpreted by man. Even though the writing is allegedly inspired by God, it is nevertheless man's work.

To me, it is a dangerous fallacy to follow blindly what's written by
people, whatever the inspiration. According to the religious
interpretation of the Bible in the past, slavery is proudly endorsed by
God. And I would be very scared if you still believe this way.

To keep an open mind about things is paramount, and religion, by definition, narrows one's thinking.

And I bet most religious people believe that homosexuals actually have
a choice to feel that way. Why would anyone willingly choose a
lifestyle that is widely scorned and potentially damage them socially
and financially? Do ethnic minority have a choice about their
racial background?

I'm not saying religion is wrong. All I am saying is that it's
important to keep an open mind and not judge other human beings based
on their race, gender, age, and sexual orientation. It is
possible to believe in God and still be openminded.

Of course it's ignorant for those of a religious disposition to scorn homosexuals because it says so in the bible (and even then I bet it doesn't say it directly!). Religion is something that is usually best kept off forums as it causes more grief than it's worth, as we all have different views, and it'll just spoil this thread.

Keep to the subject and create another thread where we can discuss why homosexuals are bad but if you do something bad, all you need to do is ask forgiveness and all will be forgotten....

Well, not really, but it's chock full of my type of humor, so I love it. A lot of people don't get it, when in reality theres nothing to get. It's just a mishmash of events in this really pathetic guys life, and it's brilliant because of it.

It's only just hit the cinemas here so I thought I might as well save myself the journey to the cinema and the nasty smells of all the foodstuffs they allow in there these days. Whatever happened to good old popcorn and M&Ms?!

That's really weird, I just looked up it's release date on DVD, and the only date I'm finding is the 21st. Which sucks, because that means I'll have to fight off angry patrons a few days before Christmas in order to get a copy. Also, I noticed that Garden State comes out on DVD here on the 28th. In case you haven't seen or heard of that movie, I would highly suggest it. Great film.

Although I do find it odd that CDNow offers a deal where you can buy the two of them together for a discounted price, considering the two movies are almost completely different.

Yes, and I've NEVER seen ANY book over $4.99 there. The only problem is
you really have to look for what you want. The books are always out of
order and such.

It's pretty impressive some of the things people give to GoodWill,
especially taking the type of people who usually shop there (opposed to
being able to afford department stores and such).

One time a friend of mine was there and he was looking around the
electronics people brought in and he saw a fairly decent LaserDisc
player. He shrugged it off, "Why would I need a LaserDisc player, even
if the video quality is better then DVD. I wouldn't be able to find
anything good". So, he stumbled onto the laserdiscs, just to see if
they actually had anything. And BAM, Empire Strikes Back. In the
excited huff he ran back to get the LaserDisc so he could purchase it
with ESB (A combined total of $15), but to no avail, the LD player was
gone. He rushed back over to the LaserDiscs and a woman holding the LD
player was also holding Empire Strikes Back ... Not to mention he
didn't get either since she bought them.

I just finished watching The Grudge [the japanese 2003 remake]. It starts off a little boring but gets freakier throughout the film. Those eyes! Those freaky eyes!!! The ending was confuzing aswell.

spoiler Did anyone else find it freaky when the woman was in her bed, then the kid was next to her [or was it the other way around] and then the girl is above her, **** did that make me crap my pants!

I am rather disturbed with all the borrowed content in the theme/story line.

i am currently at the "hogwarts" portion of the program, which only recently ended the "Jason and the Argonaut" part..

I hope this show improves a bit, cause i have been waiting for it for months. :/

Hrmm watched a few movies recently:

Starship Troopers 2: I knew this was bad going in so I wasn't too dissapointed that it was probably the worst movie I've seen in the last few years, though it does pick up towards the end with lots of violence and actually a few creepy scenes. The plot more or less ripped off System Shock 2, though, with the one and the many crap.

Van Helsing: Generic Hollywood crappy action film, but I'm hopelessly infatuated with Kate Beckinsale so I can't say nay to it, and there was some relatively stylish killings between the predictable scenes.

Dodgeball: Good but overrated, Rip Torn's a badass as always, Ben Stiller's a freak as always (that's why he's my role model), Vince Vaughn's doesn't display emotion and is amusing in the process so that's another positive, and Christine Taylor's pretty as well as a pretty decent actress (something that I don't think I've seen before).

i think, he was referring to the combination crono. shrugs

personally, i try hard not to apply "look" into any acting ability factor. mostly because it can work to the negative, being pretty doesn't always mean acts well.
some of my favorite actress's are: Kate Hepburn. Whoppi Goldberg, neither are very pretty, but can they act

Haven't really watched many films lately bar The Incredibles which I
saw at the cinema the other day. I was really impressed by it,
particularly because I didn't really have high hopes for it initially
(those they were raised by all the positive comments I'd heard here).
Visually its absolutely amazing as well, and some of the settings are
really nicely realised.

Oh, how I hate Christmas specials! What's worse is that every TV station transmits them non-stop in the holydays. One extra reason to go out into the world and have fun.

When watching all 3 series of 24, you come to realise just how many
things are annoyingly left unanswered. Series 4 better start cleaning
up.

When watching season 2 (I think it was) of 24, you have to wonder how everyone's so relatively calm after the US gets nuked. (Unless I'm horribly mistaken as usual)

I'd been meaning to see Garden State for a while, and I finally watched it earlier this week. It's incredible, and I'm pretty sure it has passed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for my favorite movie of 2004.

"Garden State" was quirky and interesting, but the effect doesn't last as long as other movies. The soundtrack, however, is wonderful. And Best Buy is even having a sale on it!

"Eternal Sunshine" remains high on my list of excellent cinema, surpassing "State". I haven't seen "Million Dollar Baby" yet, but I am pretty sure that it's going to be even better than the forementioned two films, judging from "Mystic River" and other Eastwood productions.
Don't miss "Closer" if you haven't seen it yet. It's dark, but gratifyingly so (and it also has Natalie Portman).
