Doubt we will see KFS's work foo... he has only just joined, they would have prepared this media show way in advance. And yes, that cover sucks the balls.

Quake = run around brown, dirty corridors shooting various demonic things at a ridiculous speed.

Quake 2 = run around brown, dirty and red corridors shooting various alien things at a less-than-ridiculous-but-still-pretty-damn-out-there speed.

Quake 3 = run around red, dirty corridors shooting other people online and a hugely-ridiculous mind-f**k of a speed.

As you may have guessed, my hopes for Quake 4 aren't exactly optimistic.

Heh. Try playing Quake on nightmare difficulty -- you'll appreciate that you can run around at a rediculous speed

Doom 3 = run around dark, gray corridors while shooting demonic things at a calm walking pace

It's not like anything has changed.

I found Quake's DM to be really fun, never really played Q2, and the Q3 demo was a snoozefest.

I've found that Doom 3 will only work if it scares you. People who didn't like it weren't scared by it, and those that were did like it.

Personally, I loved it.

We should be talking less about Doom 3 and more about CRAZY speculation about Quake 4! Allow me to begin:

Quake 4 is coming out in a few months! It's going to sell at $32.93!
The packaging will be edible, and come in different flavors! You'll
have to install it through floppy disks! There will be a dating-sim
module, which allows you to woo over space-alien grunts! KFS is the
final boss! They're going to introduce colors other than brown and red!

Quake 4's key features will include a Lindsay Lohan player model, completely bump mapped and ragdoll physics enabled; no other part of the game will support these technologies. Quake 4's development took place wholly within a massive, twenty-two floored tent, placed squarely in the center of Yankee Stadium; the tent was colored a blinding shade of pink, and the request made to officials to paint the stadium to match was responded to with a single word: 'Yes.' Quake 4 posed for eight years as a successful businesswoman from Tenesee until the government called off the operation and erased any records of its existence. Quake 4 singlehandedly authored a three hundred page manuscript upon a single cord in a Jimi Hendrix song. There are times in Quake 4's life where it just doesn't know what to do anymore. Quake 4 will be released in three months, two weeks, six days, thirteen hours, thirty-eight minutes and twenty-two seconds. There will be no survivors.

Joke's on you, the whole game is prefab techy rooms. I think there's 4, maybe 5 levels that aren't.

Kage: It's impossible to be scared of a game when you have enough ammo to liquidate a large city, the enemies are too stupid to pose a threat, there's a medkit every 10 feet, and you can dodge practically every attack thrown at you. Plus the game on veteran was a piece of cake. Making all the levels dark and having enemies jump out behind doors does not make a game scary.

I once saw Quake 4 eat a whole live chicken. Quake 4 orchestrated the merger between UNICEF.. and Smith & Wesson. Quake 4 once hosted the Grammy's, and gave every award to Corey Hart. Quake 4 once ate the bible while water skiing.

I remember one time Quake 4 took his family to Sea World-- they were watching Shamu the whale when Quake 4 got splashed! So Quake 4 yells, "I'm Quake 4 and no one gets me wet!" So he climbs into the tank, grabs Shamu and throws the whale into the audience, splashes him and yells, "How do you like it?!" And then damn if Quake 4 didn't step in there and finish the show!

Quake 4 did all the make-up on the Planet of the Apes movies. Quake 4 taught me how to love a woman - and how to scold a child. Quake 4 had dandruff the size of mice.

Did I ever tell you about the time Quake 4 took me out to go get a drink with him? We go off lookin' for a bar and we can't find one. Finally, Quake 4 takes me into a vacant lot and says, "Here we are!" Well, we sat there for a year and a half. Sure enough, someone constructed a bar around us! Well, the day they opened it, we ordered a shot, drank it and then burnt the place to the ground. Quake 4 yelled over the roar of the flames, "Always leave things the way you found them!"

Quake 4 once punched a hole in a cow just so he could see who was comin' up the road. Quake 4 sired a baseball team, an orchestra if you count the bastards. Quake 4 once breast-fed an injured flamingo back to health. Quake 4's family crest is a picture of a barracuda eating Neil Armstrong. If you drop a phonograph needle on Quake 4's nipple, it plays the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds".

Quake 4 would put on a white tie and tails and walk his pet cobra through the park on a leash. He named the cobra "Beverly". And he taught it how to fetch and dial a phone. But then one day, it bit the maid. So with tears in his eyes, Quake 4 had to shoot the maid.

yeah Im of the same opinion, I liked and it scared me alot I almost got a heart attack. But the bad thing about it was it wasnt brutal enough FOR DOOM (!!) I was pretty disappointed that all the monster just disappear when you kill them. I thought they can be smashed like in Doom1 or 2 where they spit out their guts  haha ok Im a sick bastard I know :grenade: well, all in all a good game, but Im not interested in playing it again and the multiplayer is alright too but nothing that makes you say WOOHOO! I think =)

Play on nightmare then. And no, having things jump out at isn't scary, it's the constant feeling of dread that makes it scary. it's just the atmosphere. You just have to play under the right conditions i.e. alone, at night, with 5.1 headphones.

I did all that, play at night, wear headphones, turn of the lights, and it was initially intense and at times scary, but that wore off by about the office complex. As for nightmare, I tried that once and died trying to get my PDA. Seems rather retarded to lose health every 5 seconds. I would have preferred really heavy damage from attacks and enemies that take more damage.

You are admitting illegal activity on a public forum, and even posting the results of those activities. This is not what I would call professional or smart.

In order to avoid any potential legal problems, Lep very understandably does not tolerate discussion of such subjects. Edit your post and take all reference to your map down, otherwise Lep/Gwil will do it for you.

I think it's more than fear of legal action, more about the principle
of the whole thing. It's just not ethical. But I guess some people
choose to ignore that for some reason.

And if someone else has the materials, at least they have the sense to
not plaster their efforts everywhere and not advertise openly.

Simply saying that isn't illegal, though. The truth is that I don't even have a computer of my own right now, as it fried

Atrocity - I don't care if all the hundreds of people on this forum
have HL2 or not, or the ability to edit it - the point is you do NOT
post HL2/CS:S/other unreleased title custom maps/editing work.

The game isnt out, and you are technically breaking the law - which
puts us, The Snarkpit, and you in a bad position. And as I said before,
how would you feel with your aspirations to be a level designer if some
stupid kids decided to get your game pre-release, and start releasing
levels for it?

Think with your head, not your cred :/ Posting work for unreleased
games, and even acquiring them to play is not cool, and never will be.

I'm sorry. I was under the impression you had aspirations to be a professional designer.

In case no one ever told you, what everyone else does is not a test of what is ethical or acceptable, it is a test of what you can get away with.

I understand what everyone of you mean, yes one day I hope to be a professional level designer, I do understand that my action are wrong, and unjustifiable, and I do apologize on my behalf, Im not trying to promote piracy as a matter of fact I have a reserved copy of HL2 when it comes out waiting for me. So when ever the game comes out I will legeally own it.

Gwil: I do understand your point and I feel both ways about it. Yes I think I would be angered because alot of my work is now released and people are making things without a real version of the game.

On the other side, I feel that I know the game is obviously going to be popular if people are already Making things for it and its not publicly released.

I understand what I did is wrong and once againI apologize for my actions, I apologize to you Lep for any trouble I obviously couldhave got you in, and I apologize to allof you for not thinking before I released my work.

Edit: On second thought, I'd like to apologize to any one who works for valve and others in which I may have pissed off.

Just saw some scans of the magazine, and I could very easily sum it up thusly:

Doom 3 + Onslaught Mode from UT2004 = Quake 4

At least, that's the impression I got from it.

I just saw some pczone scans, and wow, they look terrible. The game looks like a mod of D3 that just adds things that should have been in D3 initially (a flashlight attached to a gun!, more than 3 enemies on screen at once!, AI buddies!). Hopefully I'll be proven wrong, though, and with a bunch of ex-HL mappers doing the work I expect the level design to be better than D3's.
