For the last 24 hours I've been unable to get the new SDK update as it keeps telling me "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes," despite the Steam status page saying all the European servers are fine. Anyone else had this problem?
And I read somewhere that this update is over 100mb. If so, f**k you Valve for shafting all us 56k-modem-mappers. I don't need to re-upload megabytes of info every time I want to change a small part of this website...

If this is the one where it gives you the option to " resfresh
settings" or something then yea, it took me just over 5 mins to get.

Yeah it does. If this is how things work in offline mode, wonder how things are in online mode.

Mhh, somewhere around a hundred minutes here too. Nevermind, I've got to go to work soon anyway so for me it's not a problem...
More likely for my brother if he wants to play CoD online right now...
And for all those mappers out there that do have enough free time to map at the moment...

You're sure you have Autoupdate on for the SDK then? I can't believe your internet connection is that fast...

100mb SDK update? Is hammer even 100mb big? Heh, the old VHE folder on my computer was 60 or so megabytes and most of that was maps.

People might be interested to know that you can still run hammer while
updating by using a desktop shortcut, however the compile tools
unfortunately do not work

I got it in about 45 minutes. I just left my computer and ate breakfast and read the newspaper.
However, when I got back, Hammer has problem loading up the game config
file for HL2. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is
there a quick fix? I probably have to mess around with the
directory. If anyone else has figured it out already, please post
it here to save me some time. I greatly appreciate it.

What is with all this crying? Back in the day they would release 100 meg patches like the TFC update that you had to download or else you couldn't play, and I managed to download the whole thing with a 24.4kbs AOL connection... and now I'm going to download this 100 meg patch with a 24.4kbs AOL connection

Reno, you little s**t. I was playing around with steam while reading
the thread and I thought your screenshot was part of my steam.
The SDK loads signifigantly faster now, horrah.

SDK load time has never bothered me, I always launch hammer from a desktop shortcut that has always opened hammer immediately.

Guess I got lucky, because my update seems as though it is only going to take 9-10 minutes. Hopefully it still runs fine.

I love only living a few hundred miles away from Valve.
(Doesn't really mean much since they have many servers around the world, so to speak.)
5 minutes flat

Haha, I'm just playing around. I'm sure it's almost equidistant...are
you both from Portland? I've never been there...but I've been to Canon
Beach on the coast before.

Yup, I've never been to Vancover BC, so I guess we're even. I drive up to Bellingham quite often though so I do at least listen to your radio stations sometimes.
