Hi,

I want to be in the clan - I'm a decent player (you can play against me on SnarkPit's server). Here's my steam id: Steam_0:1:5752651.

TAU neutrino.

Just wondering whether the snarkpit server will use vac2 too or not.

Success, to a point. I now have an FTP program, and have access to the server. I am going to experiment a bit to be sure that I can indeed upload maps then after I am confident I will be open for business. Sounds silly, but I am not as confident in myself as my Compatriots are in themselves or them of me.

I will update this in a while.. If I however bork the server in the mean time.. My apologies.

Update:

Mental note, you must reset server to activate changes.

After the recent update by Valve/Steam, the server reset the maps back to those 3.. I re-uploaded the whole list so the admin can change to all the maps in the rotation now..

My confidence builds

[EDIT] there seems to be a map in the cycle that will not load, if any of the admin have any info on this please clue me in.

This map is in the cycle/rotation, but fails to load.

I think it's dm_departure. The mapcycle always resets before switching
to this map. I don't know how the thing works so you FTP wielding gods
are on your own  .

[edit]

Oh, you found it yourself. Me didn't notice. Perhaps try changing it's position in the mapcycle list?

No restarting the server shouldn't have any effect on the files stored
on it. The only problem related with restarting the server is that by
default it loads up dm_steamlab before returning to the normal map
cycle, but it doesn't (as far as I know) have any long term negative
effects.

I have been working on the "Message Of The Day"

Can someone or someone's please log on and tell me if its functioning?

I have yet to remove the pink checkers, but the message now scrolls properly on my system.

I need to know if the images line up and whatnot.

thanx guys.

Does the "New post" snark thingy now work for anyone on a sticky topic?

If it does, can someone tell me why we even have a server no one seems to all fired in a hurry to comment on?

I am not talking just about today either, many posts go days before someone finally decides to comment. :/

Besides the fact that damned few Snarkpit members frag our own server? Not much..

All I really need is for someone to log in and read the MOTD and let me know if it looks OK.. Nothing more.

I need to know specifically,
  • Does the scroll arrows work in spite of them being pink?
  • Do the images align properly?
  • Are there any typo's?
  • Are the colors OK?
  • Do you think any more news/info needs added?
My concern is only about my poor HTML skills only.. All I need to know is the message looks OK.

If it looks okay on your screen it should look okay on any - I can't
see there being similar issues to websites with different browser
issues and what have you. Obviously the subjective issues need
different people to check it out, but if it actually WORKS for you, it
works for everything most likely.

The scroll arrows work.

The images look fine.

Maybe should say "Our Admins" instead of "Our Admin"

Also -- the first sentence is kind of awkward, might want to change it
to "The official Snarkpit server!" Instead of "The official
server of The Snarkpit."

The colors look fine.

Maybe you should put the rules first. That's all that people
usually want to read. Admins and mapcycle (and contest info)
should go below the rules.

Our Admin is plural bud.. Admins in not a true word I don't think.

And, thanx for looking anyway Duncan but, even though I tend to agree with you, I have run into times where a web page worked on my machine and no one else's.. somehow I think it worked only because it was on it.

better safe than sorry.. if its to much effort however, I am sure some others would look instead :heee:

'Administrators' is a real plural word, hence 'admins' is one too since it's just shortened (unless you're applying your ridiculous American "mathematics ? math" logic  )

Don't f**king confuse me.. Is it Admin or not?

It has been my whole life, but... If its Admins over there, and this is a UK server, then it needs to be spelled correctly for the area.

I cannot seem to locate any reference to the word "Admins"

I do not doubt you, but I also do not feel that the world replaced every reference to the word to suit the "American" mindset.

Find me a link to the word.. I will however switch it to Admins upon my return from this next run. :/

On a side note, the spell checker does not recognize it as mis-spelled.

I would like to augment the server rotation today IF POSSIBLE!

As such, I need recommendations for uploading. I was considering Keved's new map or maps.. and possibly the Gasworks remake..

We need maps that will support the 16 player base.. I feel that maps like Overlook are not suited BUT was out voted last time.. It has been in the rotation long enough and unless I am out voted again, it will be one of the removed.

Suggest away guys.. NO PROMISES however.. I will not put a 16 player killbox on..

Thats wierd; I haven't noticed this thread having any new replies in it
for ages! I normally read all the threads marked as having unread
posts, but this one has either slipped my notice or keeps getting
unmarked for some reason.

By overlook I assume you mean overwatch? I normally quite enjoy the map
and personally I don't think it should be removed, but I wouldn't be
heartbroken to see it go either. I don't think its overly necessary to
pick maps that support 16 players well, as lets face it, the server
hasn't been full in a long long time. Changing the rotation won't see
that change either - HL2DM simply isn't very popular and many of the
people that initially jumped on it (hence the early days being busy)
have become somewhat disillusioned with its many problems.

You think its a bug?

Anywho's, I am primarily interested in maps that will encourage the old HLDM style fragging. I hate maps that are so full of props that they are quickly reduced to a bunch of items being hurled around. I would like people to consider maps that force/encourage you to frag/stalk/hunt your prey.

Overwatch is one of these hurl fest maps. It starts out well enough, but in minutes everyone has desks or sinks flying all over it, with one dillweed up top firing RPG rounds..

Anywho's... I didn't realize that the server was defunct so I only suggested larger maps because I was told initially that only larger maps would be considered for rotation... I have a s**tload of smaller types..

Anywho's.. Now I am concerned that this thread is being overlooked because of some stinkin bug.. :/

Been days, and I haven't altered anything. Its not as if I am chomping at the bit.

I will look into this. If I recall it played smooth as silk on my old machine, let alone my new one which has a smaller card than yours if I recall.

I was really hoping for some suggestions.. Perhaps, broaden the criteria to include maps not made by Snarkpit members?
No one seems overly excited here. In fact I would expect more excitement in threads about hemorrhoids.

To Members with FULL ADMIN STATUS:

I would like to disable the maps download from the server. Not to be inconvenient, but I have chosen a couple maps to add that are a hefty download unzipped... Not so bad zipped, but would cripple the server pings to try to attain them by connection downloading.

Please tell me how to disable the option, or better yet, take a moment and do it yourself..

When I am finished uploading (a task at 40kbps) the server rotation will be as such:

dm_np_refinery - Keved,
dm_torque - Yak_Fighter,
dm_lockdown - VALVe
dm_island17 - Mazemaster,
dm_hydro_b2 - Agent Smith,
dm_rebar_b6 - Ferret,
dm_swamplight_final - Finger,
dm_powerhouse - Wolf
dm_veikko - ishbog
dm_pit2 - Devious
dm_lambda_bunker - Atrocity
dm_diesel_redux - PiTiFUL
dm_cliffed - BicycleRepairMan
assimilation - cyrus258

If you have any complaints, keep them to yourself, you were asked and you failed to reply.

I also have others to add, but... they are not Snakpit member made so i am awaiting permission to expand beyond that parameter first.

I know that I have been asking a lot recently. I need someone to play on the server for a bit and check to see that the maps are rotating properly.. I noticed at least one glitch tonight. I dunno when, where or how, but Steamlab was back, and that only happens when the server borks.

I will be away for a week or more so I am counting on you guys to inform Reno, or Lep if the server goes bad.

The server always resets before switching to the last map in the
mapcycle list. The last map happens to be assimilation, and that's
shame cause it's really a very nice map. I suggest adding dm_runoff at
the end of the mapcycle list.

Exactly. It's a map no-one in their right mind would play, so it's
perfect for the job of ending the mapcycle list instead of assimilation (given the fact that the server resets before
switching to the last map -- which would be runoff  -- I think it's a pretty good solution).

Hey guys -- my map dm_ortho is on the server but not in rotation, but I
just voted it into play a little while ago and it drew 8-9 people at
the peak. It was quite fun and I got some good feedback, and the people
who played it seemed to enjoy it.

I don't think you need to worry as no-one would mind if you add the
[snarkpit] to your name as this wasn't originaly a clan tag but a
recognision sign.

And ahem "decent player"? This guy is ranked #1 in
the snarkpit server ranking-board is he not?

Would it not be better to inform me exactly where I screwed the pooch instead?

You guys gotta bare in mind that I am learning this as I go. If there is a problem, then inform me where and how to remedy it.

To my knowledge, I did everything right, but noticed that the server did indeed reset itself at least once before I left out on this run.

I would truly appriceate any effort on your parts to assist me on any problems you come upon.
