i disagree, i think the dumbest newbie would do something like this, i was once the dumbest newbie (im still a bit newbie, but not so dumb :|) and i made a map with a hole with a garg and an unwalkable staircase, and then thousands of houndeyes outside, ofcourse it was fullbright and full of leaks, but i was proud of my work, and i have no idea why i was so proud back then

Sounds fine to me - as long as its before 10pm or after 11pm I'm happy
(I'm, quite sadly, not willing to miss desperate housewives :biggrin: ) to be
honest.

Ok, but please: make it saturday.

Well Saturday's are probably fine for me (at least at the moment - much
too busy to be going out) but I figured weekends might see more people
not being around. Other thoughts people?

Saturdays aren't good for me for the next few weeks, but don't plan around me as I'm quite unpredictable :/

The thing is, you see, most reasonable GMTimes are pretty unreasonable EETimes. And some people actually have to get up early on Mondays. That's why I was kinda thinking of Saturdays and, perhaps, Fridays.

This map is unfinished, but most definitely playable. It is a members map, and is large enough to hold the servers player count at maximum.

I feel it needs added for a new map feel, and it can be considered an extended playtest map if need be.

I never considered "theme" under the description you posted, theme was always "looks".. but if it works for you, it works for me.

I was going to switch maps to island17, but it wouldn't let me. in fact of the whole cycle of maps, i only show 3 of them to switch to. don't ask me which 3, thats unimportant. the thing is, there are more than 3 maps nd i cannot see them :sad:

am i doing something wrong?

What 3 maps? Is there not a "next" or "more" button that you can press to see more?

We should have a map playtesting night (at the same time as clan
practice night, perhaps? one shows his real skill on a map he's never
played before, afterall :biggrin: ) when we play a whole bunch of
candidate maps and decide if they should be added permanently
into the mapcycle. THAT would be nice.

I would be nice to have a small beta pack that people could download and we would put them in rotation one night.

I have not looked yet, I am unsure if i can even upload a map onto the server, but if i can i would be happy to run a beta testing for you guys sometime.

right now, my dumb ass cannot seem to switch maps properly, so i dunno. :sad:

Methinks the admin mod needs you to manually list the maps you can change to in a text file somewhere...

Yeah you do, but I always update them when I upload maps. I think every
time a new server update is made, the old list is overwritten, but I
dunno why it would only list 3 maps when there are even more than 3
STANDARD maps now.

Nah I'm afraid you don't have access to the server directly, so you
can't upload. Sounds like a good idea, and if people get maps to me or
point me to downloads, I can put them on the server in advance so they
can be tested even if I'm not around.

Exciting! I'll have the alpha finalized by today and I'll get you
a download soon. I just have to touch up some lighting and weapon
placement!

I can't wait to playtest my map, and others.

In a way I am glad. If something shows up unexpectedly, that leaves me out of the equation. It also on the other hand, makes it difficult to assist new members when no other admin is around to upload.

tis a two edged sword i suppose. maybe someday when i have been here long enough, i will be permitted.

No you're not. It happened to me too yesterday evening. The maps were lockdown, steamlab and i forgot the third one :sad: .

Tis fixed now, and the server is full.. i was in last place, but rapidly moved up to.... above last place :smile:

I think that either the maplist.txt or mapcycle.txt in the hl2mp dir lists the maps that the Mani admin mod reads from (and so determines which the admins can switch to) and it's not hidden away somewhere else...

So, are you saying that because of the patch I got yesterday, that thats why it borked?

Today, I can see all the maps and could if I wanted to, switch to them.

just so you guys know why im not on the server so much at the time...my
router got b0rked, how ass, now my rank will be oh so low.

I updated maplist.txt, it had just reset because of the patch.

Well, since Natus brought it up, i'm going to be AWOL for 5 days; orthodox easter. :biggrin: Happy easter to me !

Just a reminder about tonight's match. We are playing 2H2K at 21:00 on
the SC server. Get in IRC at 20:30 if you are wanting to play. If we
can score a victory tonight, or even a draw (ie. win one of the two
maps), then we should be going through to the next round of the cup :smile:

What Orph fails to mention is that we lost on our own map :biggrin: No matter,
we took 1 point from the match, and I think that is enough to secure
us a place in the next stage of the cup.

Can't think who you mean by "our wicked", but I'm gonna wager no, not
him (whoever he is :biggrin: ). Wicked is the guy who runs the league we are
entered into, and also the person who admined our match (though he was
actually on the same computer as one of our opponents, Dealer, who
happened to be visting Wicked in Amsterdam).

And no, you didn't do that badly at all. I noticed you had a slow start, but you seemed to pick it up later in the match :smile:

The write-up was very complimentary towards everyone. I like this admin. Good job guys.

I used to be in the same HL1DM clan as Wicked, he's a good man from what I remember :smile:

I know the name. I may not know the person, because anyone can use a name.

but someplace in my long mapping career, i know a wicked, and it was spelled exactly the same way, with cap and lower case letters in the same places (WiCKeD). I am betting even money I know this guy. .

Yes, I had fun, and truly look forward to another someday.

It looks gorgeous, and whiteLegion is a largely unrecognized mapper for his talent. Has anyone run around in this map yet?

That map was pretty fun, and I think it would be even more fun with a couple more people wandering around.

I wandered around rebar_b6 for about 45 seconds before I realized I was all alone... :biggrin:

My goal is to be the best 357 user around.. I was tagging Juim pretty good in an earlier map.. I found a secret about the magnum some may not know.. Yup, I plan on keeping it that way. :biggrin:

I got right in Rebar.. no one was there so i left. :sad:

That is the biggest, and most open map I have ever seen that runs that well.. i never dropped to a level of flickering.

I maintained well over 100 in almost every direction/area.

I didn't have the map, so I had to wait for the download.

As for the magnum... I'm terrible with it. I prefer almost any
gun to the magnum, except the pistol and the smg. Although if I
have nades for the smg I'll take that over the magnum. I like to
tell myself its just that the magnum isn't very forgiving when you have
choppy fps... haha but that's probably not it at all. I just
can't seem to hit anything with it.

I prefer the splash damage weapons, although my favorite is still the
crossbow. There's something very satisfying about killing someone
who is running from far away. Anyway... enough of this weapons
talk! We should play more often. When is the Snark server
usually populated with fellow snarkpitters?

Tis usually packed each weekend, but seldom with many Pitters.

Sad really. Not that there are so few, but that you cannot even entice them to join when asked. You'd think it would be otherwise.

Anywho's, I have standing instructions.. If you wanna frag, and I have a moment, just gimme a yell and I'll be there. :smile:

The only way I am gonna get back into my groove is to frag more. I prefer Juims server only for the pings, but I do not mind giving some UK blokes an advantage either.
