Someone left the gravity borked on the SP server. Was this by design or accident?
I have no problem with it but some may and not join because of it.

Jeez, natus forgot to switch that off before leaving (I left before he did so I couldn't have switched it off myself)!
Now, TBH, playing island17 with sv_gravity 150 is great fun, especially
for those who know how to gravnade. Everyone loved it so!
Oh, and this brings an interesting problem: the default gravity is 600
but the rcon command shows the minimum gravity is 800. Can't there
anything be done about this?

Normal gravity across all HL1 games was 800, did this change?

It weird how HL1 had the default gravity 800 and now the default grav is 600.

Question: I just noticed that there is a "Friends" option in the server loading thing on Steam.
You know "Online" "favorites" "Lan" etc.etc.
How do I add my fellow snarkpitters to the list so I can locate them online?

Hooligans! Fiddling with the very essence of Newtons work is like trying to create black holes in a lake under Switzerland.
I think Mani Admin Plugin already has a low grav/normal grav button built in, for you admins. Just click around the menus and you should find it!

For the next 30 minutes or so, I will be in the snarkpit server if anyone wants to rack up some kill totals.

Besides the fact, that I was just thoroughly trounced, I have to say in my own defense.. My son is playing on line across from me. He is playing Guild wars and every few seconds my whole HL2 game would stutter and fritz just for a second or two. Thankfully it didn't happen enough to say it caused me to play so poorly.. I can still take full credit for my ineptitudes. :heee:
ATM plays really well. Thanx for a good frag ol'man.

How many admins do we have now? And how is playtesting for user maps going?
Just wondering as I see it mentioned every now and again on the forums that people would like to playtest their map, and that was one of the primary reasons I got the server.
Maybe some sort of advertisement telling people to ask in IRC is the way to go?
Just a thought.. keep looking after it!

Thanks for the kind words Orph... it was fun playing with you!
Speaking of HL2DM I'm looking forward to playing it on the new rig that
should be arriving tomorrow via fedex. My fingers are crossed.
 I wonder if a better computer will help my playing...
@gwil, ReNo helped me hold a little playtest of an alpha map I was
working on a few months back. Very very useful. I too love the
server.

Plenty of admin.. not enough of them capable of uploading maps for play testing IMO..
I have not even seen the list when I go to change maps for alternate maps. I mean.. Even if I wanted to load a map already uploaded, I cannot seem to find any. All I can find are the server rotational maps.
me wonders why.. :
Anywho's.. We need to be able to upload.. Preferably without causing some sort of a mishap if its to complicated..
[edit] BTW, is there a way to monitor the activity of the server? I am thinking it is idle way to often, prolly due to our lack of changing maps in the cycle.
Yes, we have some of the best, I have seen almost all of them played elsewhere to prove that but the current cycle has gotten so old, even I dread going there... From the states its just not worth the higher pings to do so.
We need some sort of a system of voting. One thats agreeable to everyone to liven the server situation.
Either:
1) we stick to only snarkpit maps- we will have to include nearly completed maps prolly because there are just not enough finish large maps.
2) include excellent maps from without the Pit.
#1 is preferable, surely we have some choices within our own cadre. :/

I am unsure which category to place this in since it encompasses all/most of them so I will stick it here and we can hash it out.
I have noticed that the server is more active on weekends. I propose we have a week rotation and a weekend rotation..
Week rotation can consist of maps from Snarkpit that will hold less than say.. 8 people.. Smaller maps.
Weekend maps can be the behemoths we now have on the server that will hold the current maximum.
Perhaps in this way, we can get more uptime on the server and stop the idle time.
It would require a server admin capable of uploading to monitor the days so the server could be switched back/forth between the two cycles.
there are some fantastic 2 on 2 and 4 on 4 maps here..
this is a serious suggestion, please take it into consideration.

I realize that Master Gwil has ultimate sayso but can't anyone comment on any of these subjects anymore, or has the enthusiasm dwindled so?
I do check in on the server whenever I am home, and I notice some appalling things..
1) Damned few Snarkpit members are online.. ever.
2) Even fewer use the [Snarkpit] tag.
3) The server is totally empty most every time I check.
Course now, #1 could be because many people may use a different name while fragging, same as if they are in IRC.
Now, we cannot force anyone to do anything, but we should be able to encourage them. Besides, discussion is what we do best, even when we disagree it is usually informative in some fashion.
Put your noggins into it guys. What can we do to liven up the server we all so wanted not so long ago. Surely we did not get it to.... Be as it currently is. :/

Yeah -- the server does keep odd hours when you're over here on the east coast. But, I should play there more often.

There seems to be a bug with the admin module; I tried to set the
nextmap to departure (because it's a new map and everyone agreed that a
new map is always worth seeing) but, to my surprise, I discovered that
I could only switch to steamlab, lockdown and overwatch! This usually
happens on steamlab when the server resets and usually wears-off after
the map change, but not this time (we were playing torque when I
noticed). I noticed one more thing on steamlab after the server
self-resets: the ranks get screwed-up (displaying ranks different from
the ones being displayed when you check em on other maps).

Bleh, if its not on the mapcycle/maplist.txt whatever it probably won't work.
As Orpheus pointed out it's probably a case of handing over FTP details
to another peon as ReNo and Leperous are both busy with University (I
think). If someone is happy to read through the Mani Documentation and
deal with uploads of maps etc, i'll send on the details.
Andrei? Orph? Natus? Give me email addresses to forward the details to and i'll hook you up with the FTP.
Read the documentation first though, it will explain the process of
adding new maps etc etc - and alert ReNo/Lep to a map change so it can
be added to the top of the site. Maybe also if there is a popular HL2DM
mod about (HL2CTF ?) it can be installed (possibly) and stuck on
sometimes.
shrugs Just an idea

Of course. I play more CS than I do HL2DM. Next time I'm in
IRC just let me know if you want to play. In fact, more people
should idle there.

Whoow, uploading maps? shrugs Sorry, but I wouldn't touch this one
with a ten foot pole given how "unstable" my connection can get
sometimes. Besides, i'm not sure i'm the best to judge which maps are
worthy and generally don't want such a big responsibility.
Perhaps...Orpheus or Natus?

I have come to the inescapable conclusion.. My maps will not contain anything tossable.. I am rapidly becoming annoyed with getting stuck on things because my ping delays prevent it.. Yeah, I know.. Its just an excuse, but dammit.. I play badly enough without people getting kills because I am stuck. :/

I'd rather give someone a frag than to remove one from my own kills (yes, typing kill in console = -1 frag + 1 death).

Bl1tz, your best bet is to hang around in IRC or try contacting one of the admins for a playtest. It won't be thrown on the server straight away, playtesting is essential before it can be approved.
Join our channel on Quakenet and try grabbing NatUS, Andrei, ReNo or any others who have access to admin. I'd organise something but i'm on the other side of the world and don't have Steam etc on my laptop
Also it might be worth your while taking on board some changes from the thread you made for your map. People tend to be more receptive when their queries are addressed and implemented - merely for testing rather than rebuttled..
Just a thought!
Like I say however, your best bet is to get in touch with one of the admins.

I did implement virtually every change people wanted, and I beta tested
it for nearly two months, in addition to taking advice on pre-beta
screenshots. I simply cannot satisfy everyone, so if you feel like
someone made a valid suggestion that I didn't implement, I apologize.
Thanks for mentioning the IRC chan, I'm on Quakenet anyway so I'll stop by and idle.

I ran through it and it definitely has the waste processing facility
theme down. I liked it (the charred corpses in the toxic sludge
was a nice touch). I think we should hold a playtest and see if
maybe it could get put on rotation. I think it could be a real
candidate.
I don't know how it plays, but I think it looks pretty good and it has the potential for a lot of combat on the z-axis.
