There was a match at 3pm on Sunday 15th, which we unfortunately lost.
This means we have been put out of the cup, and so will have to wait
until the league starts up before we have any more proper matches.
For those interested in what happened in the match, here is a short
report. The first map was our opponent's (PoJ) map dm_overwatch. They
took the all important roof from the outset and held both it and the
middle floor pretty well throughout. We, for the most part, held the
cellar and tried to rush the roof, fairly unsuccessfully. They won the
map pretty convincingly, but they were the better side.
Next up was our map dm_torque. A few of their team didn't know the map
which worked to our advantage, and we held onto the RPG roof and
managed to snag a reasonable win by a margin of about 20 kills.
As this match was in the final stages of the cup, the match needed a
winner. As a decider, the admin of the match had to choose a random
map. The map chosen was dm_outpost, and to be honest it was a bit of a
farse. The "trap" must have killed our team members about 20 or more
times through the map, which saw a few of our members in negative
scores for a good portion of the match. The enemy team quickly grabbed
the teleporter room, complete with only two access points (one through
the teleporter, one through a winding corridor) and this room is
laughably overstocked and easily defended in TDM. It features a long
ladder to an elevated walkway that goes into a room overlooking the
main room, and this little room has the RPG, the supercharger, and AR2
balls plus more in the way of items. The main room also had an AR2 and
more, meaning the room was effectively all that was needed to succeed
on the map. They had an RPG permanently pointing at the teleporter
entrance meaning going through it was suicide, and if you charged
through the corridor into the room you were raped by AR2 balls. They
camped in this room for most of the match, which made it impossible for
us to gain a foothold in the game.
Fair play to the other team - they used tactics and worked together
better than our rather unorganised rabble, and really deserved to win
the match when it comes down to individual skill and teamplay. That
said, when there was talk about the decider map they whined about it
being on a random map and how they never agreed to the map list.
Suffice to say they weren't whining when they realised how easy it
would be for them once they held the teleporter room! They also started
whinging about getting the default win if we switched out a player who
had his dinner ready for another, though it wouldn't have been
necessary if their team hadn't disappeared after the second map and
then taken ages to come back in again.
All in all it was a fun match, though the last map put a bit of a
downer on it. If people would actually post in this thread in reply to
questions about preferred practice times and the like, then hopefully
we can get better as a team and see a bit more success on maps that
aren't torque
