Sounds like a decent plan. Let those standing instructions work
both ways. I'm always looking for a distraction to pull me away
from my english papers.

Where is Juim's server located? I get basically the same ping on his server and the snarkpit one.

West coast methinks.. My ping on the pit server is 180-200, my ping on Juims is 140 to 150.

His rotation is a bit wider as well, but most maps are well worth the wait, my only complaint is, he has server downloading on. I knew you were arriving soon as my ping went well over 200.

Do many servers have fast downloads / ftp for HLDM? I've only seen one so far. Does it cost much more?

It's funny, because it seems that every single server you join for Day of Defeat is fast downloads...

Oh and Orph this is a random question. You've been here a
while... are images in the signature frowned upon? No one else
seems to have any images in their signatures. I don't want to
clutter the message board with unnecessary images to download, but I've
stumbled a pretty cool series of images I want to turn into a signature
(you can check them out in the art board in my concept art thread but
they are by no means small / optimized. Most of the images run at
~300 kb).

Sig images were disabled because there were to many who though it was their private advertisement zone. some of them were huge too.

to my knowledge anyways, Lep disabled the option.

Makes perfect sense. I just figured I would ask in case they
weren't disabled, but just weren't around for etiquette reasons.

Signatures are a funny thing. Subtlety and understatement just go out the window.

That's why I like Vermont... no billboards

It's really a beautiful drive around most of Vermont. The only
problems are that in the summer it often smells like cow s**t, or if
you get stuck behind a slow vehicle on one of the two lane roads you're
in for some frustration.

Well guys thanks to our default win against the.nine, and our draw
against 2H2K, we have made out of the group stages and into the finals!
We are due to play PoJ at 19:00 GMT on sunday 08/05/05. Their map is
dm_overwatch with FF=0, ours is dm_torque with FF=0. These are now
knockout stages, so we need to win in order to progress. If we have won
1 map each after playing them both, a third random map will be played
to determine the winner.

Get in IRC at 18:00 GMT is possible and we will have a bit of a
practice session before hand. As we are now in the final stages of the
cup, it would be great if we could really give it our best and see how
we do  The actual league should be starting up in a few weeks.

My schedule sucks. Wednesday, home 1/2 day. If I am home, I will be available. If not...

This Thursday I should be home all day. Friday, not. Saturday maybe, and Sunday as well.

I will need a fair amount of warning to attend today however. I am really busy, but would do my part to attend.

Nominating my map, dm_ortho_b1, at least for a temporary test run. I've
made topics on many forums, but so far (even though it's only been two
days) no seems interested in playing it or putting it on their servers.

It's a smaller map, best for 2v2 and up to 6FFA probably.

Here is the link to the thread on Snarkpit

Both these maps are a bit too small for the server I think, though I guess we could always keep Spire in reserve for when things aren't so busy.

Bl1tz, your map has a few potential gameplay issues which need to be fixed (e.g. about 10 batteries next to each other, and low FPS from fog/smoke). You should also consider making it larger, or more focused if it's to remain small.

Well, I'd really like to have it on the server -- I know it's a bit smaller, but it will fit 6-8 for a real fast fragging game.

I can fix up the battery issue easy, and tweak the fog. The layout is
going to remain relatively unchanged though in terms of size and focus.

There was a match at 3pm on Sunday 15th, which we unfortunately lost.
This means we have been put out of the cup, and so will have to wait
until the league starts up before we have any more proper matches.

For those interested in what happened in the match, here is a short
report. The first map was our opponent's (PoJ) map dm_overwatch. They
took the all important roof from the outset and held both it and the
middle floor pretty well throughout. We, for the most part, held the
cellar and tried to rush the roof, fairly unsuccessfully. They won the
map pretty convincingly, but they were the better side.

Next up was our map dm_torque. A few of their team didn't know the map
which worked to our advantage, and we held onto the RPG roof and
managed to snag a reasonable win by a margin of about 20 kills.

As this match was in the final stages of the cup, the match needed a
winner. As a decider, the admin of the match had to choose a random
map. The map chosen was dm_outpost, and to be honest it was a bit of a
farse. The "trap" must have killed our team members about 20 or more
times through the map, which saw a few of our members in negative
scores for a good portion of the match. The enemy team quickly grabbed
the teleporter room, complete with only two access points (one through
the teleporter, one through a winding corridor) and this room is
laughably overstocked and easily defended in TDM. It features a long
ladder to an elevated walkway that goes into a room overlooking the
main room, and this little room has the RPG, the supercharger, and AR2
balls plus more in the way of items. The main room also had an AR2 and
more, meaning the room was effectively all that was needed to succeed
on the map. They had an RPG permanently pointing at the teleporter
entrance meaning going through it was suicide, and if you charged
through the corridor into the room you were raped by AR2 balls. They
camped in this room for most of the match, which made it impossible for
us to gain a foothold in the game.

Fair play to the other team - they used tactics and worked together
better than our rather unorganised rabble, and really deserved to win
the match when it comes down to individual skill and teamplay. That
said, when there was talk about the decider map they whined about it
being on a random map and how they never agreed to the map list.
Suffice to say they weren't whining when they realised how easy it
would be for them once they held the teleporter room! They also started
whinging about getting the default win if we switched out a player who
had his dinner ready for another, though it wouldn't have been
necessary if their team hadn't disappeared after the second map and
then taken ages to come back in again.

All in all it was a fun match, though the last map put a bit of a
downer on it. If people would actually post in this thread in reply to
questions about preferred practice times and the like, then hopefully
we can get better as a team and see a bit more success on maps that
aren't torque

Did you try gravnading them out of that room by bouncing the grenades off the corridor wall? That usually works...

Yeah, but the room was so large and the opening to the corridor was so
large, that they could easily stand well back and still spam it with
combine balls from a safe distance. Some of the team were catching the
combine balls and firing them back into the room, but that room really
is so large and open that they weren't a very effective weapon.
