i dont think that my opinon counts the most at this point, but i think
that we need more admins, not because i want to be an admin, but since
the new maps got on the server there has been some errors (there still
is) and i think that someone should fix it, and since the admins we got
now haven't fixed it yet i think that more admins would be good for the
server.

An admin shift, designed in such a way that there will always be at
least 1 admin online whenever you play, would be nice. The
snarkpit server is a jungle! It's become a habit for hobos to
swear at eachother, to voice-spam and generally to misbehave.

More admins are needed. The current three of us are never around and
rarely play in the server just now, and any errors that require the
restart of the server can go unfixed for a long amount of time. I'll
give some thought to who is suitable soon, but my first thoughts are
NatUS and Andrei as its those guys I see playing there most often.

Agreed; might I add that most people tend to consider having admin rights a privelage rather than a responsibiliy.

My concern is that we don't often have an admin in the server.
Its all well and good giving out admin positions to the more
established community members, but if it isn't increasing the amount of
time the server has an admin present, it doesn't seem like something
worth doing. Gwil was never looking to give out too many admin
positions, so I personally think he would have wanted a few active
admins as opposed to lots of "once a week" admins.
Starting a thread isn't a bad idea, but I wouldn't like to embarrass or
offend people by refusing them admin positions. If nobody asks, and the
opportunity is offered out instead, this isn't going to happen.
Obviously people can feel free to refuse of course  If you feel you
would make a beneficial admin, have been around the pit for a
reasonable/active amount of time, and can play in the server quite
often, then feel free to get in touch via PM and I'll be happy to
discuss it.

I've admin quite a few servers and my personal veiw is that active
admin are much better becuase you need some one there to ban the smack
tard. If you dont have people on the server, even though they are
around and able to pop on and ban, who will know how to find
them? Some random player isn't going to run and join our IRC
channle just to get some guy kicked.
Give admin to people who play alot, try to spred it out over the time
zones (americans are good to police the early day europians).
Watch them from time to time, if they abuse people need to report them.
Though, on a side note. I've lost my admin on two servers becuase
non-admin see me ban some one, and dont understand why (like they join
the server and see me ban some random guy) so they report me. So
I would say, pick people who play alot and wont go crazy with
power. Also, dont give people full admin. Leave the banning
to the head admin.

if its any consolation, i got my ass royally whipped once again on the server..
i can honestly say, snarkpit has some good players.. i also feel a bit of it, a small bit of it is due to having a ping less than 100
forgive my small excuses for being a loser :/

Hehe, I wouldn't begrudge you that Orph, I've come up with much worse excuses than that in the past
Andrei, I mentioned you in my post before, and I'll do so again. If you
feel you can handle the responsibility of being an admin, the place is
yours. You've been here a good while now and I see no reason not to
trust you with the position. You play on the server more than most
people and seem like a responsible guy, so I think it would be great if
you could admin. Even better, you are what, -3 hours on GMT?
Besides Australians, we don't have that many long time members that far
east that come to mind, with the exception of Fraggard in India.

I would volunteer to be an admin for the Australian time zone, but the
fact is I rarely play what with my terrible ping, and thats mainly when
other pit members are on so I don't mind lagging it up.

Nooooo man, there is a thread in the general banter section about the
clan, its called "HL2CCL begins" because that is the name of the league
we are in  You steam ID is a different thing to your username by the
way - you can get it by typing "status" in the console during a game.

Our next official match is on Sunday 24th (ie. this Sunday), at 19:00
GMT, versus the clan 2H2K. A couple of their players play in the
snarkpit server reasonably often, and they seem like reasonable though
not exceptional players. Their map is dm_station17 with friendly fire
off. Server details haven't been announced, so I'll post that up once I
know.
We may also have a match with the.nine sometime if they reply to my thread on the HLCCL forums, but they haven't done so so far.

Station17 is a horrbile map, arg! I played it the other day and
was blow away with the low level of craftsmenship. There are
doors that arn't solid and props, like computers and tables, that are
static rather than physics...

At least it has a reasonable layout and vertical play  I agree that
the non-solid doors were a really rather horrible design choice, but
the author said he didn't want to impede flow. God knows why he didn't
just remove the doors or make them fixed in the open position however

You can do all of that in your Windows clock in the bottom right corner. Just find the relevant time zone, flick to it and it will display the time there.
And you guys call yourself geeks, sheesh...

After much consideration i have reconsidered my opinion of being a server admin.
it prolly won't make me play any more, but having the ability to fix things when i am here has its advantages, even if someone were to only ask me to do it once in a while.
considering the alternative if someone were to ask me now, it seems prudent.
if you have a slot available put me in. if one comes open, lemme know.
i do however have a question, are there multiple levels of admin? i mean, i helped with ours, but i had full access, i could do anything.. that is not really my goal.. i would want to only be able to say reboot it if it crashed, or take note of an offending members ID number to report it as a reliable verifier..
in other words, a bargain basement admin.. one you can call upon if no real admin is around.

Actually, I don't think anybody but Gwil, Lep and myself can reboot it
 To reboot it you are required to use an rcon command, and to use
that you need to know the rcon password (as far as I can gather). At
the moment Andrei and NatUS only have admin access through the mani
server plugin, which allows them to change maps, kick and ban, and the
like, but I don't think they can give specific server commands.
On the reporting abusive/troublesome players, anybody can actually do
that, so I encourage people to do so if there is any bother. Just type
"status" in the console and it will give you a list of all the players
in the server and their steam ID.

No no, not at all mate. To be honest its a bit of a concern that you
need full access to restart the server, as there are a couple of fairly
common bugs in HL2DM that require it to be restarted, and so it would
be nice if everybody could do it. I don't know how gwil would feel
about giving out rcon access to all the admins though, so I'm loathe to
go ahead and do it.
