I was wondering, just how many members here enjoy Harry potter?

I was also wanting to discuss some discrepancies I noted in the last book. These could be simple human error on the part of the author, or perhaps some hidden meaning we have yet to ascertain.

Lastly, would anyone be willing to do two things.

1) Attempt to guess the outcome of book 7.
2) Be willing to join me in writing our own version of Potter #7 to see how closely we come to the real one when it arrives?

What could those people add to the conversation in any meaningful way? If you hated them, you could at least have an informed opinion. If you didn't bother reading them, you have nothing to base a comment upon.

Perhaps, you could enlighten me on the benefits one might contribute being a non-reader of the series?

If you have no interest in reading the books, obviously you'd have no interest in this thread either.

Indeed. I never read a single book of Harry. (I'm more into Artemis) -
But I watched the movies so far. In my opinion they got worse each time.
I'm curios how the 4th will be.
Never try to be perfect - just try it and make the best out of it

I enjoyed the movies for themselves only. The movies condensed the books to a point of almost losing the direction they were traveling. If you attempt to compare the movie to the book you may be sorely disappointed.

The books, began as a 1" thick thing, and by book 5 it was nearly 3 inches of reading pleasure. 3" of book is a lot to cram into a movie.

Book 4, which the next movie will be based has by far the most action to portray so I am wondering myself how it will compare to the printed version. I am however eagerly anticipating its release.

If you have yet to guess, I am a fan of all the written and movie versions.

Its not really pointless to have an option for people who haven't read
them, as it means you'll better see the percentage of potter fans at
the snarkpit. While their opinions on whether the books are good or not
are insignificant, the fact they don't read potter books is still
relevant to the topic.

Just seemed to me, from a non-potter reading viewpoint, that you put in
some odd choices of poll options, yet missed out one that is somewhat
obvious.

Never read any of those books but I'm not positive about them. I read
Lord of the Rings and while I don't like the whole magic stuff, at
least that book got some morals. The things I heard about Harry Potter
is that he doesn't care about any rules and doesn't even get punished
for breaking them, rather he's being encourages to go ahead. Is that
what we teach our kids? I wouldn't hope so...

Again, that's what I've heard of the books. I hope it's different but I fear it's not.

Herein lies the question. If you haven't even bothered to read them why would anyone care any more about your opinion of the books when you have no care to read them in the first place?

I for one couldn't care less to hear from anyone who has no base to comment from on any topic. It would be like me interposing my opinions on brain surgery with no education in the medical field. Yeah, thats a bit of an over-exaggeration but since I feel safe in saying that there are probably NO brain surgeons here I am not offending any that might be present by using it as an example

Still the question was: "How many Harry Potter fans are present?" if you are not a fan, feel free to ignore the thread as you will probably not find anything of interest in here.

Thats one of the discrepancies I wanna discuss. I personally do not feel that this is the true event. It strikes me as a plan devised by the parties to render Dumbledore out of the equation.

Somehow it feels wrong IMO.

I wouldn't know, haven't read the book.

If you got some conspiracy theories though, that's awsome! I'd love to
hear, I just gotta get and read the book first. That probably won't
happen in a while though, I'm dead-broke. :/

Apparently, it isn't true and JKRowling said in some interview
somewhere that it is a set up designed to get Voldemort's guard down or
somesuch. I have a brother who's a rabid Harry Potter fan and there
seem to be entire websites dedicated to this one topic. I think one
such site is called www.dumbledoreisnotdead.com !

Me, I find the books only mildly interesting. I just can't work up the
interest to follow up on characters and what not. I've read all of them
though, thanks to aforementioned sibling.

i don't need to have read any potter books to have a valid opinion of them. in fact, the very reason that i've not read them stems from that opinion, which has little to do with the quality of writing.

Theory#1: Snape prided himself on his spell casting ability, Specifically non-verbal casting. He kills Dumbledore vocally, why?
Theory#2: Dumbledore and Snape have a confrontation. Specifically, Snape states that he can no longer deal with the task given him by Dumbledore. My feeling is that Dumbledore makes Snape do it.
Theory#3: Snape protects the children when he can. Specifically the members of the DA.
Theory#4: Snape protected the very people he dislikes in movie 3 from the werewolf. Why?

Everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinions. Usually they are filed away to their specific category. As in this case, "Irrelevant"

This thread is dedicated to the "Fans" of the series. If its important, you may begin a thread dedicated to non-fans.

Valid or not, it does not pertain to this thread. Period.

Just my theory...

Well, like as said before, if Snape is so good at not having to say the
words and can do it in his head why didn't he do that. And, if anyone
recalls from an earlier book (sorry I forgot) that it was stated that
for the death spell to completly work and kill the person it has to be
meant. Like, you need to realy want to kill the person. That's why
Dubledore wasn't killed! Snape didn't really mean it and that
Dumbledore was just like, almost dead of sorts. I am assuming he can
get out of his own grave when the time comes due to being magic and all.

Now, in the 7th book, Harry will eventually get down
to the last Horcrux which is Voldemort himself. And they will duel, I
think it'd be funny as hell if Harry lost. But he won't due to J.K.
Rowling wouldn't put millions maybe billions of little 10 year olds
into that kind of misery. So Harry wins, everyone is happy. Ron totally
bangs Hermoine, but then after that they break up and ignore each other.

And if that doesn't all happen, Neville will kill
Voldermort cause he is the only other one that can... and he will be
famous and Harry and him will get marry and ave nice gay sex (lol).

Dumbledore indeed died, but Snape killed him because Dumbledore asked him to do it. This is the only way that Snape is going to gain trust from Voldemort. And now Snape is the perfect spy, after gaining Voldemort's confidance. He is also the perfect protector for Harry Potter, because no one expects him to be.

Neville is going to kill Voldemort, because no one expects him to be able to, including Voldemort himself. Harry is going to end up with Hermione, not Gennie. I don't know who Ron is going to end up with.

Sirius Black isn't dead. He's going to come back and perhaps take up Defense Against the Dark Art class. Magnogall (sp?) is going to become the headmaster of Hogwarts.

I haven't read any of the books, though I thought the 3rd film was the best, then the 1st- the 2nd was lame.

You should always have a neutral/alternate option on a poll- wouldn't you be interested to see how many people in relation haven't even read the books?!

The fourth film should be pretty exciting, having dragons and a huge tournament in the story and all. Story-wise, it was one of the best in the series.

The sixth book has pretty good story too. The fifth book was the most disappointing.

Really?, I liked it the best so far. It showed that there are people like old toad face in the hierarchy. I thought it had the most "Human" pieces in its storyline. All the other books tended to be more fiction than realistic. Book five had Harry carving his hand for Christ sakes.

And, yes Fishy, even #4. You can be a die hard anti-Potter fan as well.

I predict that the 4th film or any other harry potter films won't be as good as 3- my mum said book 3 was the most dark and sinister of all the books, which is why it was so good in my eyes.

I would take advantage of this and carve a lightning symbol onto my forehead.

j/k.

Anyway, I think you oughtta learn spells and all... or voodoo... wished
I could do that... voodoo seems great, so you could actually make your
friend who makes laugh over you to hop on his hands  without him
wanting to do that.

then you should be freed of all comparations between you and harry
potter, when they find out that you can actually do real magic and they
fear to tease you anymore because they are afraid you might
accidentally use "Avada Kedavra" or "Cruciatus" curse on them...
...Shut up...

I read them all and liked them. I remember at our school this kid fell into a fence post and got a scar on his head that looked like lightning. He was teased for quite a while.
Reckless disregard for childrens well being, women and nothing but utter contempt for other cultures.

My thanks for the link. I am finding it very interesting a read.

Its a real shame that only 18 members are interested in this thread. Its not surprising, considering the nature of the site meaning, its a gamers community, not a literary society page.

Thanks again for the link.

If it was a literary society, I don't think Harry Potter would be a hugely popular topic either

This is more my style of reading pleasure. Imagine how I feel when I say "Harry Potter is one of the best series I have read to date". I have read probably 1,000+ titles since I first discovered books so thats not an easy decision to make.

At present, I have only met one person whom doesn't like Potter, either in book form or movie.

I am predominantly a Sci-Fi reader, so it takes a genuinely good book to pull me off track.

I understand the blue text but I am surprised that only 18 people voted. I suspect that others like the series but fear ridicule. Could be wrong, but I doubt it. My reason? Those that hate the books have no compulsions about retaining that information and since only a few stated they do indeed hate/dislike the books one can only assume that they do not hate them.

I truly look forward to book #7.

http://startrek.epguides.info/Books.asp?BookID=317I truly look forward to book #7.
Me too, especially since each book is better than the last. Book #6 is,
in my opinion, the best of the series. I can't wait to see what book #7
has in store.

I've also read the "Dumbledore's not dead" article. Some of the evidence provided lacked sense but most was convincing.
