I put in a preorder to get HL1DM:S, though I've actually yet to "play" that beyond taking a gander at the maps.

I just noticed something whilst looking at some media:

The building with the small metalic dome, just right of the citadel
looked somewhat familiar. At first, I didn't give it much thought, but
then it occured to me that I had seen it before:

Interesting coincidence.

I voted "I'm in doubt." I recently developed carpal tunnel syndrome (due to marathon gaming with horrible posture), so any gaming I do is in very short bursts of about 10-15 minutes with much longer periods of resting my wrist in between (ie not really worth the time or effort). I'm also just burnt out on FPSes and not really interested much in games anymore TBH. If it weren't for those factors I might get it, though it doesn't look like it brings much (if anything) really new to HL2, just a continuation of the story (which I never finished  ). If someone writes a Half-Life novel I'll probably buy that.

/groggy ranting

@Andrei: what building is that?

Good eye Andrei.

I voted I'm in doubt, because while I would like to keep up with the HL
series, I'm not as pumped about this episodes arrival as I was about
HL2.

I still have to get around to playing Lost Coast sometime.

There's relatively little hype. I like that. I'd love to see some solid, old-school HL gameplay that's not really worth a superlative but has a lot of atmosphere and interesting scenes. I'm not sure about Alyx. I think' she'll start getting on my nerves somewhere in the game.

I think the dome looks like the Overwatch building.

Which, incidentally, was probably designed by a Czech architect

Im excited, but only for the story and possibility of learning more about the combine and g-man. From what it looks like in the three teasers, it looks like they are really going to over do Alyx. I mean "Alyx: cool under pressure" I mean it's so obvious they are trying to make her cool, if thats the right word for it. I would also think its that it seems like they are trying to make her seem more attractivem and they are rubbing it in to a point that it's painfull.

I just really hope they dont just stick her in there as something sexy to look at while fighting, that would just ruin it.

Honestly, I think Valve is just having a little fun with their character. It's actually better that they play it off a little humorous and tongue-in-cheek. In this way, they are able to give her some character and spotlight, without shoving the sexiness down our throat. If anything, Valve has always been able to nail the perfect 'tone' with thier characters and like most great movies, always manage to deliver a fiction that is serious, yet sprinkled with enough comedy to not drown in it's own drama.

I've played an hour, and it's absolutely fantastic. Alyx has a lot more facial expressions, and the level design is gorgeous (a lot more use of light effects).

I paid $80, don't get EP:1 or DoD:S. So, stop whining.

Apparently, they plan on having EP:2 out by the end of the year and this Episodic thing is at least three add-ons.

Played through the first chapter, and it's good stuff. I can't say the combat was great (though I didn't find it all that great in HL2 either) but the puzzles, though simple, are nicely set up and the set pieces, particularly the car toss are great. Looking forward to playing more, but I'm limiting myself to one chapter per sitting for now.

lol  it's Alyx, COUGHT IN THE ACT!

gordon: "oh Alyx how could you!"

I finished it about three hours ago, I have no idea what is going to happen in ep:2 but by the looks of the trailer I guess we are in the forest now. However I was bummed out when it ended, when IT happened at the end and it went black I was saying "no no dont be the end please no" and then the credits rolled and I was like "NO!"

I voted number 4. I am sick of people and thier... games... maybe when i get in a better mood, I'll buy it instead of a tank of gas that may help take me to college where I can improve my future in baby-steps while an illegal mexican who got "amnesty" is taking my motherf***ing job.

Unless you are a native american, in all likelyhood when your ancestors came over here they royally f**ked the locals. What makes you think you any more deserving of a job than a poor mexican immigrant who has lived in poverty his whole life and who busted his balls just to get here and feed his family? The fact that you were lucky enough to be born over this peice of dirt instead of that one?

Myself, I have Irish ancestors, and when they came over to America in the 1800's people discriminated against them, called them dirty, lazy, and blamed them for taking jobs. You think they went through the immigration process? Hell no. They got on a crowded ship and just came over here. Today they are revered as hard workers who came to America to get a better life - the American dream. If you look into your family's history you will probably find the exact same thing, because thats what happens each time a new group comes here, but in the end we are better for it.

I would buy it, but it is a whole month worth of pocket money
The problem is... if it had been, say, Op4 or BS I would have brought it. But thid is only a mere episode, and thus Im will only be recieving a very small part of the whole 'aftermath'. I wish they had kept the entire Aftermath as one, even if it cost more I dont have to worry about buying every episode (Otherwise my ep1 will go to waste if I dont keep it updated)

For anyone who doesn't want to buy it based on the $20 price tag, I'll
bet you've got a shelf full of games that lasted almost as long, with
1/10 the craft and a third the action as this. It may only be an
hour or two or three... but my god I loved it.

and after seeing x-men 3 (which I paid NINE FIFTY for) this was so much much much much more for the money and time.

I even wrote Gabe to tell him what an insperation his company has been to me and what a great game they have made.

I could go on and on...

Does this post count for Sin Episode 1 or Aftermath Ep 1, or both?

Haha, I dont know if it is just me, but I noticed a rather ammusing thing.
I swear valve is trying to, what they often call, 'detribalise' Alyx
As in making her look more 'white' and less african. TO transform her from being your local 'african' workshop girl with a trench and grease on her face to some sexy sort of starring charector.

I don't know if this has been asked before, but will it be possible to buy episode 1 separately?

Hmm, I wonder if it is worth a month worth of pocket money :/
The problem is for the same price I can get 48 hours at our local Computer Gaming Zone cafe', which have much better PC's/Speakers/Monitors/Everything
and they have HL2:ep1. Maybe I should just pay for a few hours and play it there.
