Hello snarkpit peoples.

I was wondering if people could post there computer stats on this thread. I would just like an idea of what people have got out there in the world. Could you Please include the following information:

*Your Operating System (E.G Windows XP Home Edition)

*Your Processer Speed (E.G 2.0 ghz)

*Your Computers Graphics card (E.G 128mb)

*Your Ram (E.G 512mb)

*The resoultion you run HL1 at (E.G 1024x768)

*and other information that you think may be needed.
[Only read the following if you have alot of spare time]

[Warning: Is off topic]

I'm asking because I need to know how Graphical my mod reddawn should be. At first reddawn was a project I thought I would do for fun and put on cd to my freinds at shcool who have the game. Than I noticed that the mod was actrully going really well. My brother thought that the storyline was great and my Dads Freind who Worked in the gameing industry (xbox and pc) and made software for the military and Quantas said that if I keep up the Consistancy of the storyline and the Quality of the levels that it will be better than the Original Half-life 1 Campaign. Now the mod is a serious project. Quite Serious. Its coming along really well. Who knows you may even see it in the shops.

Also look out for a thread that I will create soon. It will breifly explain redawn, I'll show you good guys some of the levels, and a sneak peak at some of the weapons.

Also if you are intrested in some voice acting for my MOD please email me at halo3myster@yahoo.com.au .

Thankyou  I couldn't resist writing the above info. I said to myself that I will just shutup and create the topic when its ready.

Thx mr.insaine. I'm curious though do you think that 2.0ghz, 64mb graphics, 512 ram is enough to run half-life2.

But keep sending in your P.C stats. When you submit you p.c stats you are helping build reddawn belive it or not.

If you're collecting statistical information on what hardware is being used with HL2, perhaps you should look at the hardware survey valve does on a continual basis. It covers all people who use steam, but that would imply something HL related at the moment.

And yes, his computer can run HL2.

The fact that you're asking at all means you haven't gotten very deep into the graphical abilities of the source engine. It's scalable, if you were curious. Which means you can support, graphically, down to a GeForce2. There are levels of model detail (maximums) that the game adheres to. When you create models (as well as textures and audio, for that matter) you can make models with different levels of detail. When you create the configuration file for the model you can put in LOD distances of when to switch to a lower level detail model. I believe, you have a section setting which one of these versions of the model is "low", "medium", or "high" when it comes to setting the model detail in the settings.

All of this means: you don't have to worry about it, start at the maximum graphical ability you want, then tone down the rendering as lower detail models.

Also remember that you can have very low detail modes look very high detail with normal mapping and other shader effects.

If you're making a mod you should know all of this. It would also be very silly to make a mod on the glorified Quake 1 engine, you would immediately be limiting your audience, for one thing. Also, as I understand it, the Source engine has more power, but at the same time, ALL of the abilities of the previous engine are retained, at least from a development standpoint.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Your asking for comp specs that are able to run HL2, but then you say
your gathering info for your "mod" thats for HL1. What is it?

First of all the MOD is for half-life1, not the source engine, not the quake engine, not the any engine. Its For half-life 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1.

Also I am asking for peoples computer stats because I'm curious, I need this information for my MOD and I want to know how my shiny new laptop compares to you guys, pc's. THATS ALL SO SEND IN YOUR PC STATS. THANKYOU.

Thx mr.insaine. I'm curious though do you think that 2.0ghz, 64mb graphics, 512 ram is enough to run half-life2.
Why did you then ask this question?

But in a generalized responce to your original question: All modern
computers these days can run HL1 with no problem, whether it be in
software or some form of 3D mode. You really shouldn't concern yourself
with this issue (as we've stated many times in your past thread).

Of course modern computers can run half-life1 with no problems. Its just that my mod lags as Bi... and with my laptop it hasen't lagged. I just want to know who has what, If people are still living in Pentium2 days, weather I'm lagging behind, u know.

Like I can bulid reddawn to run on a 1 ghz, 256 ram, 16 graphics or like frikin 3.2 ghz duel core, 2 gigs of ram, and 256 graphics.

I asked about half-life2 because mr.insaine told us his stats and they are very similar to my stats and he said that he can run half-life2 good.

Anyway whats you computer status omegaslayer

Not that i followed this thread to well (eek), but... more information than you will ever need is in that link Crono gave you. Plus all the things everyone els said.

But sense you asked nicely.

AMD Sempron 2400 (1.67ghz) :crash:
1 gig of ram
24 bit sound blaster card
ATI x16000 (512 ram)
1440*900 rez

A good story line is important but i doubt you top HL1. Besides, the majority of people don't like good movies. They like bad movies with simple entertaining plot lines. Higher a rap star to be the lead voice over in your mod. You'll make millions.

And i don't know about u, but i definitely do not have the attention span to complete a whole mod i my own. I be surprised if i don't take a month off hear or there while i build my one little DeathMach map.

lol thanks redwood.

Right now I am woking on the singleplayer campaign. Later on in the development I'm going to do some multiplayer maps, then I'm going to complete part2 of the campaign. This means adding in all the ambiant sound, charecter voices and monsters in reddawn. I'll also be completeing the unfinshed cinimatics in part2. Then after that I'll be working on the user interface and some other stuff.

My brother makes multiplayer maps and gives me some ambient sound and music for the mod.

I also have gears_of_war_man aka ash, makeing me some multiplayer maps when he grows in skill.

Keep sending in those computer specs

I'm just curious what you would do ... I mean ... I already have games where I go around shooting Russians. (Freedom Fighters ... oh lord, IO-I hurry up with that sequel!)

How is yours different?

I'll be honest here, if done right a Red Dawn game would be insane amounts of badass. But it depends on what you're doing.

If this helps:

AMD64 3200 CPU (Actual clock speed is around 2.2Ghz)
1GP 400 Mhz Ram
NX7900 GT 256MB
MSI board with an nForce 4 Chipset
250GB HDD Sata 3.0
8 CH SPDIF (Optic) in use with a Yamaha HTR-5930. Range: 60Hz - 20kHz (I have some speakers downstairs that cover that range, but go down to 40Hz) I believe the sound card just sends data straight through the spdif port so the receiver does most of the work.
20" 16:10 Widescreen monitor. The only resolution it supports without a disgusting effect is 1680x1050. It is also (supposedly) capable of 1080i, though, the max resolution would seem to negate that claim.

I don't think anything else in my machine matters.

It runs most everything smooth, but I've noticed a drastic decrease in performance since I built it (It's a software issue with Windows)
I'd like to upgrade a little bit. The AM2 socket stuff supports MUCH faster ram, which makes loading in Oblivion irrelevant (~20s for any map). But that stuff is still a little too expensive.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Thankyou Crono

I will go into furthur deatail about reddawn a little later (keep a look out for a reddawn thread) but if you want to know the true secrets about reddawn than you will just have to play it when the game is released. The current release date is December 22 2008 but that date is subject to change.

I can tell you now though its not a mod with no story line and you just go around killing bad guys (like Seven-Coop). I hope everyone likes it.
Oh and crono you said " a Red Dawn game would be insane amounts of badass". Is there already a game called reddawn or a mod?

Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Intel Pentium III Processor
1.00ghz, 512 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 Direct X 8

Half-Life 2 runs fine (nearly on full graphics) except for when things load. Same thing with Counter-strike: Source. In game I'm fine, but when a new map loads.. blah!

You know what I think me might just be acting sarcastically

If you look closely I think he subtlely said he had 4 1 G.B. graphics cards and a total of four TeraBytes harddrive space and four gigs of ram is just a little bit over the top.

I used to do that kind of thing on Steam powered(I'm banned A.T.M., B.T.W.). The kind of systems they posted about on there where monsters so I used to exaggerate it for a laugh and post stuff like "Twin A.T.I. x19000xtpro (can't remember exact name) 1 G.B. graphics cards flying in CrossFire formation 4 Intel Core 2 Duo processors overclocked to 5 G.H.Z. and 3 G.B. R.A.M. 1 TeraByte harddrive etc".

I have never ever seen a 1 tb harddrive. Thats only somthing I have heard of. But really do you need that much space (whats that like 1024 gb).And a 1 tb ram stick. Holy (beep). I dont think we'll be needing those in the next 100 years. Mabye in ther year 2150 or something.

But James Packer (richest man in Aus) reckons that Computer Procceser Chips double in Speed every 18 months. Thats means that computer chips in the year 2010 will be 4 times more powerful than the most modern ones avaliable today. The highest Processer tht I have seen is 3.2ghz Duel Core.

Also just want to add that the biggest harddrive I have ever seen is 420gb's, most ram is 4 gigs, biggest grahics card is 512mb.

I remember the days when computers had 8 mb's of ram and tiny little harddrives.

My steam folder is like 1 gig and my half-life folder is like 5 gigs.

But heres something I have just realised, I dont think I have given my computer stats, here we go:

*2.0 ghz Processer

*512 mb's of ram

*256mb's graphics (I couln'd belive it either, I think thats good

*CD/DVD combo drive

*56k Dial up, sometimes when I'm at my dads (dont lough)
  • And I run half-life in Open gl on the Highest possible res.
*And the Harddrive is 50gig with 10 gig partioned for system backup, So I can reinstall windows and all the software that came with the laptop without CD.
Hay does anyone out there have a game Called Train Simulator. I have that game and its a pretty good game. Just want to know.

But keep sending in those stats

Yes, 1 terabyte equals 1024 gigabytes. I think they were designed for pirates.. just kidding, I'm pretty sure they're for server computers or at least I think that's where they would be used the most. As for the 1 TB RAM thing.. yeah, I'd love it. Even if you just had one of those.. it'd be awesome.

I've been working for a computer company a year ago. I built RAID-servers there with up to 12-16 hard drives - each of them got up to 500 MB.

Usually they are used as a storage solution in huge companies that need a lot of backup-space.

I'd imagine that the 1TB HDD would be between $750 and $1,500.

Jimmi, how much does a system like this cost? That sounds like something from Star Trek
Of course I was joking!

My real system is:

32mb RAM.
400mb HDD.
CPU - Pentium 1, 200mhz.
Matrox Millennium AGP 8MB Graphics Card

Runs Oblivion and BF2142 like a dream.

lol. Jimmi, that was also a joke! Whats your real system.

I also think that instead of saying it runs Oblivion and BF2142 like a dream, you should of said it runs Halo2 Vista like a dream. Thats a more demanding game

Slackware / WinXP pro dual boot
P4 1.4 GHz
384 mb ram
GeForce 2 (32 mb)
990 GB hard drive space (40 + 200 internal + 750 external)

Runs HL2 fine, albeit without the fancy shaders.

P4 3.0ghz HyperThread.
Nvidia Asus 6600EN 256ddr. PCI-E
Some very dodgy motherboard.
150gig HDD.

CPU: Opteron 148 (2.2GHz single core) @ 2.6GHz (HTT 248 * 10.5)
Mobo: Asus A8V V2.0
RAM: 2x512MB Corsair Value Select PC3200
Video: BFG 6800 Ultra OC 256MB AGP 8x (faster/better than any of the 6-series cards you can buy now)
HDDs: Western Digital 80GB ATA100 + Seagate 200GB ATA100
OS: Windows XP SP2

That gives me 40+ FPS (usually over 50, sometimes in the 30's) in Episode 1 with full HDR, all settings on high, 2x AA and 8x AF, at 1280x1024.
