Ah crap, I really shoulda checked my post after making it. I really thought we had that rigged up to set the text colour the same as the background colour...guess I was mistaken. Apologies to all those people I spoilt the first 3 minutes of the game for
Somehow I managed to forget, lol

Man I should spend my time playing games right now but I think I'll get it anyway.

Better get those eyes checked dude. And maybe choose an 'evidence' pic that doesn't have the model bathed in bright yellow light and what looks like HDR enabled.

So much attention to detail on the face, but the rest looks like crap! I doubt I'll get it, my 360 was my portal out of PC gaming for good me thinks.

I finished it, and I liked it. Some very nice level design. A lot of the gameplay can be duplicated in HL2 actually, without any extra code.

Better than HL2, and that was good enough for me to stay up all night and take the day off from work the day it released. It's just under a third the time it took me to get through HL2, but felt just as complete (comment from Remo at the Shack covered it nicely - it's not 5 hours of a game, it's a full game in 5 hours, or 3-4 in my case). One section that annoyed me a bit, but otherwise the environments, atmosphere, characters, and especially personality and overall character were huge steps up.

Thanks, I like a friendly welcome. Anyway, I suppose I will proberly end up buying it. Err, I take it is impossible to... 'borrow' it from a friend who purchased it? Im sure STEAM prevents that. Anyway, how many episodes are expected? 3?

I think there will be many more episodes, and for the $20 price tag I'd
say its a great deal. I mean, you'd pay $10+ at a movie that you
see once and most movies are crap anyways.

Argh, I just bought it on DVD and what happens? The steam servers are down. Why does it always happen when you're excited to try out a new game. Installing HL2 was a pain in the ass too thx to Steam

 It took me a hour and a half before I managed to decrypt the files.
I was on a 64kbps dial up back then... I just wish I'd have the extra
money to get HL2:Episode One.

I dont really want HL:ep 1. I never liked HL2 that much anyway. I loved HL1. I hope they make a HL3.

ewww... Gabe said in an interview that "Half-Life 3: Episode 1" would have been a more accurate name. I'm afraid there won't be a HL3. Maybe HL4?

Anyway Steam decided to work again but the little episode using mostly HL2 content takes up over 2 GB of space and the partition I installed Steam on isn't big enough (the Steam folder is about 15 GB (!) already). sigh

I noticed that quote too... Damn them. They're going to get away from
making a full game by making 3 addond disks for an existing one. There won't be that new game smell anymore...

But HL2 Cost me 25$ when it came out and it was a brand new game and it also came with CSS (retail, because i'm a cheapskate).

25$ when it came out? Did you buy it at the black market back then? I can't believe.

Anyway I got it to work and played for a little over an hour. The thought that I have already seen about a third of the game now is a bit sad but what I've seen so far is excellent.

I was one of the people fearing that Alyx superstar will steal the show and all you do is running behind her and look at her pretty facial expressions but they managed to integrate her role in HL-style gameplay very nicely. It almost feels like playing with a female and generally more lively version of the HL1 barney the whole time. I like it a lot so far. Also I like the subtle references to HL1 that add something to the original HL2 that I missed. I only played one third of Episode 1 so this is just a first impression.

Played through the game twice (1st w/o 2nd w/commentary), loved it!
The commantary was quite interesting, (and quite handy when you encounter a heap of enemies and use the commentary, which activates god mode  ). The game is very well made (Valve certainly know how to make great singleplayer games).
Having Alyx with you is handy, like her giving covering fire while you do something.

All up, great game cant wait for the next ep!

I still have to get it, but I have no means available to pay via the internet and I'm not sure if a VISA card is worth the annual 35 euro you pay for it. I mean, I wouldn't get a VISA card for HL2:E1 alone... :|

Sounds interesting, a bit like Blueshift: short, but very sweet. Actually, the HL2:E2 trailer I saw looks much cooler to me: new enemies, and forests... I love those environments, surely the way they look in that trailer.

And 20 euro for an episode of 6 hours, that's roughly compared to a game at full prize that gives 15 hours of play. It's shorter than what I like to see, but it's understandable and if it's good fun, that's an ok price. I think.

It's in stores everywhere here. I would be surprised if you don't get the DVD version in the Netherlands, Capt'n. I know exactly how you feel about credit cards.

E1 is better than Opposing Force and Blue Shift IMO. Probably a bit shorter but very dense. I'm just running it with the commentaries. A nice feature, interesting for us map creators especially.

Bought it yesterday. I am pissed.

Not only did it require that I activate steam into online mode but, it reconfigured it and turned on my downloads. NOW I am forced to update.

I cannot even look at the competition maps because of this.

I have been crying constantly for hours now. 56k sucks for Steam.

Great game. I was disapointed that it only took me about 3 hours to beat.

Now im going through it with commentary. Pretty cool.

as a last resort, you could always uninstall, and re-install from your disc? dunno if you would still need to update bits and pieces in order to view hl2 maps though. and, yeah, you wouldn't be able to play ep1 unless you update i guess, so that's why .. last resort.

3 hours?! It took me the average 6 on Normal diff. I enjoyed it somewhat, and loved the cliffhanger. Ep 2 looks even better.

Also, I happened upon Ep1 in Walmart and freaked (in a good way) about the $20 price tag. Not only that, but sitting on the shelf right abov it was the game that uses the source engine, running episodically, and plays very similar to Half-life 2, Sin Episodes. Not to mention only $20. (will try to get it thursday at EB games) I play it before I recomend it as an inbetween game.
You know, I've actually got nothing to say

I know exactly how you feel. My whole HL2 (and mods) install went to 60% from one day to the other. 2GB of downloads. I can't do that with my flatrate. Steam can be a pain in the ass.

Got it today, just finishing off the hospital with about 1 1/2 hours
playtime (interrupted by the World Cup). Love it to bits - very much
HL2 gameplay again but it works so well and keeps you hooked, so it's a
winner in my book.
